Chapter 73: He Did What?

Rosalie:

"How did you get it back?"

The question had barely left my mouth when both men exchanged a glance.

Immediately, I knew there was a story.

For a few moments, neither of them answered. Zaiden simply sat beside me while the morning sunlight painted everything in shades of gold. His expression remained as unreadable as ever, making it impossible to guess what was going through his mind. Finally, he looked at me and gave the simplest answer imaginable.

"I got it back from that woman."

I blinked.

That was it. No further explanation. No details. No dramatic story. Nothing.

I stared at him and he stared back.

The silence stretched until I decided to press further for details. "...That’s all?"

A tiny smirk appeared at the corner of Eiden’s mouth. But Zaiden remained completely serious as he replied calmly, "Yes."

I looked between them and then at the bracelet around my wrist. And suddenly another realization hit me.

"Wait." My eyes widened. "You got it back?"

Zaiden nodded once.

The shock hit me harder than the realization. He had gone himself. The Alpha of Nightfang Pack. Instead of sending warriors, instead of assigning someone else, and instead of ordering somebody to retrieve it - he had gone himself.

The knowledge settled heavily inside my chest, feeling dangerously warm. Because there was no logical reason for someone like Zaiden Nightfang to personally retrieve a bracelet, especially not one that belonged to me.

Yet he had.

And somehow that knowledge meant almost as much as the bracelet itself.

I looked away before either of them could notice the emotions threatening to appear on my face. Unfortunately, curiosity won against embarrassment and I looked back almost immediately.

"Tell me more."

This time Zaiden turned fully toward me. His gray eyes studied me for several long seconds. Long enough that I began wondering whether he intended to ignore the request entirely.

Then he sighed softly, a sound so rare coming from him that I almost felt honored. But before he could speak, Eiden stepped back toward us and announced, "Let me do the honors."

The smile that appeared on his face immediately made me suspicious. Because it wasn’t his usual gentle smile. Instead, this one held mischief. The kind that promised gossip, details, and exactly what I wanted.

I straightened immediately.

Eiden sat down on the porch railing next to Zaiden. From my position, I could observe both their expressions. He smiled softly as be began, "It was actually pretty simple."

The fact that Zaiden rolled his eyes at those words told me it absolutely had not been simple.

I instantly became more interested. "What happened?"

Much to my pleasure, Eiden continued, "First, we spent half the evening figuring out Crescent Wolf Pack’s patrol routes."

I blinked, focusing on one certain word.

"We?"

Eiden nodded and confirmed, "We."

I stared at him as the realization sank in. He had gone too. I tried to process the fact that two Alphas had apparently spent their night sneaking around another Alpha’s territory because of my bracelet.

Eiden continued before I could comment. "Once we knew the patrol schedule, getting inside wasn’t difficult."

I stared at him in silence, briefly glancing at Zaiden who sat beside me silently with almost a blank expression on his face.

Eiden continued, "We avoided the main security routes, entered through the eastern side, bypassed the internal patrols, and located that woman’s room."

I looked at Zaiden again, and he still looked completely unbothered. Like illegally sneaking into another Alpha’s residence was an ordinary Tuesday activity.

I looked back at Eiden and muttered, "You make that sound normal."

"It was."

"No, it wasn’t."

"It was for us."

I opened my mouth. Then closed it. Because somehow I couldn’t argue with that logic knowing exactly who these two were.

Eiden smiled and then continued his story. "And then we found the bracelet on her bedside table."

My eyes immediately dropped to the bracelet around my wrist. The image of it sitting there made my stomach twist. Charlotte had actually kept it. She didn’t hide, didn’t lock it away, instead she let it sit beside her.

The thought irritated me more than I expected.

Eiden must have noticed because his smile disappeared slightly. Then he added casually, "Zaiden almost killed her."

I froze and stared at him in disbelief. Then I slowly turned toward Zaiden. He didn’t even bother denying it. And that had my eyes widening.

"He did what?"

Eiden looked entirely too amused. "Once we found the bracelet, we were about to leave immediately. But someone suddenly thought maybe it was not really bad idea to kill that woman and get rid of any future troubles she might cause for you."

My heart skipped. Not from fear, but because I suddenly remembered the conversation we had had about Charlotte. The offer and the promise Zaiden gave me. And how he had calmly suggested solving my Charlotte problem in a very permanent way.

Apparently he hadn’t been joking. Not even a little.

Thankfully, Eiden continued before my thoughts could wander further. "But he recalled your wish of not harming that woman... and we left."

I sighed in relief.

Then he added, "After making a few adjustments."

Immediately suspicious, I narrowed my eyes and asked, "What adjustments?"

The smile that appeared on Eiden’s face looked dangerous. It was the kind of smile people got right before admitting they had done something questionable.

"A security review."

I stared.

"Eiden."

His smile widened as he confessed, "We compromised the surveillance network."

My eyes widened.

"You what?"

Neither man looked remotely guilty.

Eiden leaned back comfortably. "We disabled several monitoring systems."

"Several?"

"A lot."

I looked at Zaiden.?Then at Eiden. Then back again. The two of them looked disturbingly proud of themselves. And suddenly I understood.

This wasn’t vandalism. It wasn’t a prank, nor something done for entertainment. Instead, it was a message. A warning. A demonstration.

Eiden’s smile faded slightly and his tone became more serious. "Vale has spent years convincing himself his territory is untouchable. We just wanted to remind him it isn’t."

The warmth in the morning air seemed to cool slightly.

Because beneath the casual words lay something far more dangerous. Not a threat, but a fact.

If Zaiden and Eiden could enter the heart of Crescent Wolf Pack, reach Charlotte’s room, retrieve something, compromise their security systems, and leave unnoticed... then someone with worse intentions could too.
