Chapter 72: Need To Be Eliminated
Charlotte:
The moment I opened my eyes that morning, I knew something was wrong.
At first, I couldn’t place it. I was still half asleep, lying comfortably against the expensive silk sheets while sunlight filtered through the curtains of my bedroom. Everything appeared normal. The room looked exactly the way I had left it the night before. The flowers were fresh. The furniture was spotless. The scent diffuser continued filling the room with a pleasant fragrance. Yet something felt off.
Then my gaze landed on the bedside table, and somehow I noticed it instantly... and froze.
For a second, I simply stared. My mind refused to process what I was seeing. Then I sat upright.
The bracelet was gone.
Gone.
The realization slammed into me all at once.
I immediately threw the blanket aside and climbed out of bed. My eyes swept across the room, searching every visible surface. The bracelet wasn’t expensive enough for me to care about its monetary value. In fact, I had only kept it because it belonged to Rosalie. Because I knew how much that pathetic woman cared about it. Because every time I looked at it, I could imagine her devastated expression when she realized it was gone.
And now it had disappeared.
My heartbeat accelerated. I searched the bedside table again. Then the floor. Then the dresser. Then every visible corner of the room. Only to find nothing.
The bracelet had vanished.
Rage exploded inside me. Within minutes, the entire packhouse was turned upside down. Servants rushed through hallways. Warriors searched every room. Staff members checked storage spaces and security footage.
And still... nothing. The bracelet was nowhere to be found.
I stood in the center of my bedroom while half the packhouse gathered around me, crowding the otherwise spacious room. And every passing minute only made my anger worse.
"Useless!"
My voice cracked through the room like a whip. Several servants flinched immediately. But I didn’t care. I pointed toward the doorway. "How can something disappear from my bedroom and none of you know anything about it?"
Silence.
No one answered. No one dared to. Good. Because I wasn’t interested in excuses.
I looked at the warriors next. "You are supposed to be protecting this packhouse." My voice dripped with contempt. "So explain to me how someone entered my room and stole something without any of you noticing."
Again, silence.
The security chief lowered his head respectfully. "We are investigating, Luna."
The title did absolutely nothing to improve my mood.
"Investigating?" I laughed coldly. "That bracelet disappeared hours ago. And none of you noticed."
The room grew even quieter.
I could practically feel their discomfort. Good. Let them be uncomfortable. Someone had clearly failed their duty. Or worse... a possibility suddenly crossed my mind and my expression darkened.
I looked around slowly, taking in every face. Every servant, every warrior, and every person standing in the room. Then I asked quietly, "Or perhaps one of you stole it."
The reaction was immediate. Shock, disbelief, and fear flickered through their faces. Some of them even looked horrified by the accusation.
One of the maids immediately shook her head. "Luna, we would never-"
"Then where is it?" My voice rose sharply.
The poor woman instantly fell silent.
Exactly.
Nobody had an answer. Nobody could explain how an item disappeared from my room. Nobody could explain how security somehow failed. Nobody could explain anything. Which only made me angrier.
The longer I thought about it, the more suspicious the situation became. And then another possibility entered my mind, one that immediately made far more sense.
Kaiser.
My jaw clenched.
Of course.
Who else would care enough about that bracelet to steal it? Who else was obsessed enough? Who else couldn’t stop thinking about that damned bitch?
The answer was obvious.
Kaiser.
Ever since Rosalie returned to Blackthorn Pack few days ago, he had become unbearable. Every conversation somehow returned to her. Every argument returned to her. Every problem returned to her. It was Rosalie this. Rosalie that. Rosalie everywhere.
Even after everything, even after she left, even after choosing to walk away, even after my attempt at eliminating her existence for forever, that woman still somehow controlled these men’s thoughts.
But it’s Kaiser who had been particularly insufferable.
The realization immediately reignited my anger. My nails dug into my palms. No matter what happened, Rosalie always found a way to ruin things.
Always.
She had ruined my plans two years ago. She had ruined my return. She had ruined my chance with Kaiser. And now, she had somehow managed to ruin my morning too.
I inhaled sharply. Then pointed toward the door.
"Get out."
The servants immediately started moving. Then the warriors followed. No one argued. No one delayed. And within seconds the room emptied.
The moment the door closed behind the last person, I grabbed my phone.
My patience had officially run out.
The call connected quickly and the person on the other side answered immediately.
I didn’t waste time.
"Have you found her?"
Silence.
Then-
"No."
My grip tightened around the phone. "No?" The single word came out dangerously soft.
The man on the other side immediately started explaining. But I wasn’t interested, not even a little. It had been days and still no result. My anger grew with every passing second.
"Then find her."
The command came out cold, sharp, absolute. The person immediately promised they were trying.
I cut him off. "Trying isn’t enough." My voice lowered and somehow became even more dangerous. "You need to find that bitch. And you need to do it quickly."
Silence greeted me from the other side.
I smiled, but it was a smile devoid of warmth. "When you find her..." My voice dropped further. "...get rid of her."
The words had barely left my mouth when another voice spoke from behind me.
"Get rid of who?"
My entire body froze. For one horrifying second, panic surged through me. I spun around and found Darien standing near the doorway.
I hadn’t even heard him enter.
Damn it.
How much had he heard?
My mind raced. Calculating. Searching. Finding a solution. Fortunately, panic never lasted long with me. I ended the call immediately. Then forced a smile onto my face.
A hurt smile. A vulnerable smile. The kind that always worked.
I quickly crossed the room toward him.
"Darien."
Relief flooded my features, or at least the relief I wanted him to see. Without hesitation, I moved to wrap my arms around him. But just as usual, he stepped back. The movement was small, barely noticeable. Yet I felt it like a slap.
My smile nearly cracked. And for one brief moment, genuine anger flashed through me.
Rosalie.
Again.
Everything always came back to her. Even now, even after she left, and even after everything I had done to secure my place... that woman still stood between me and what belonged to me.
I forced my expression to remain soft. Forced my smile to remain intact. But inside, something dark twisted. Because the distance Darien had just created told me everything I needed to know.
Rosalie was still a problem. A very dangerous one.
And as I stared at the man who should have been focused entirely on me, one realization became crystal clear.
I needed to get rid of her.
Soon.
Very soon.
