Chapter 74: The Other Pill
’’The other pill is a gift from me.’’
His eyes fluttered shut briefly as he stared at the sleeping world below.
A deep ache settled in his heart, followed by a strange tightness as he recalled all that he saw through the Memory pill.
’’You can take it whenever you are willing to know why she embraced me at her lowest...’’
Grim stepped away from the window to stare at the woman lying still and unconscious on his bed. They moved on her softly as he recalled her last moments before death.
The Memory pill never showed him everything she had gone through, but what little it revealed was enough to make him want to avenge every monster who had hurt her.
Every insult.
Every abuse.
Every neglect...
’’Ruby.’’
He blinked in surprise at the name that slipped from her lips even while unconscious. She was probably dreaming of Ruby.
That name he had heard her call quite a few times now and had seen her interact with a lot in her past life through the pill.
Grim found himself frowning slightly in confusion as he recalled those sad childhood moments of her.
Who really was Ruby to her?
His hands tightened a bit as he recalled that traumatic moment when she lost Ruby and was forced to spend a few years all alone, sad, stressed and misunderstood in a psychic ward. Being forced to take countless poisonous substances ’’to make her sane again’’ by her doctor uncle.
’’Ruby...’’
His love called out as she stirred restlessly on the bed as tears streamed down her face. His eyes softened on her before he moved towards the bed and tried to hold her still.
Even in her dreams, she was still suffering.
Haunted by the memories of her past life.
It challenged how he was going to make her forget everything about that life and make this new one worth living.
He also didn’t want to believe Ruby wasn’t real enough to affect her so much that she thought of her at the point of death and after.
He settled beside her slowly, taking her up in his arms. His fingers gently combed through her long hair until she finally became still in his arms.
His eyes moved on her gently as he thought of what to do.
How he was going to handle everything the moment she opened her eyes again.
He was going to ask her about Ruby.
She was going to describe her for him.
She was also going to tell him who else caused them so much pain and hardships when he wasn’t there to protect them both.
So far, he already has a long list of mortals waiting to be consumed by him.
What surprised him the most as he viewed certain parts of her life through the memory pill was the mystery hand that pushed his love over the edge.
Thunder roared in the distance as dawn slowly began to reveal itself.
He couldn’t see who it was, it was part of the many things the pill failed to show him. But the sight of the hand that pushed her to her death was clear enough to tell him it was a female.
Someone else out there is walking freely with murderous intentions towards her.
And he has sworn to be that person’s karma soon.
Their time on earth is numbered the day and moment she opens her eyes again to see the world and witness the calamity soon to befall all her enemies.
His eyes moved calmly towards the door when he heard a knock.
And waited for whoever it was to introduce themselves.
’’Your Royal Highness, Alove is here to attend to Miss Corrine. I was ordered to come up here by Lord Azazel and told you needed me, Your Grace.’’
That’s right.
His eyes lowered briefly in thought. She needed to be made clean and comfortable to speed up her full recovery. For a moment, he thought Azazel would defy his orders to send someone up. Not that he couldn’t decide to clean her up herself if the demons around him felt too big to serve a human.
Afterall, she was already his and only he could properly take good care of her best.
’’Come in,’’ he said enough to make the female demon behind the door nervous.
She stepped into the large, polished and partly dark bedroom with a silver and gold trolley being wheeled in by another younger demon behind her.
Alove was the head housekeeper of the entire building occupied by Hell’s most powerful and elite demons. The higher the floors the higher the demons that dwelled there are ranked. With Grim sitting at the top of the pyramid, the shy maid behind Madam Alove froze at the sight of the golden eyes that settled on her in the dark.
This was just her first day of working at the main building residence of the arch demons and other powerful hellish characters. And her good luck charm was so strong she had to face the serpent of Eden on the very first night of working here.
Alveerah played with her hands tightly as she sought refuge behind the Madam who seemed composed and confident before the ancient being.
How many times has she been before the prince of hell to be this calm and collected?
Hell, she felt like becoming one with the ground soon if they did not disappear from his sight quickly. Not all demons in the building are fortunate or worthy enough to see the serpent face to face. Hell, most of them had only survived on the multiple rumors about him.
How beautiful and otherworldly he was.
How he was capable of swallowing the whole earth at once if he wished.
How quick he was to send any demon that disrespected his love to their early graves.
Alveerah raised her head just enough to make out the figure that rested securely in the serpent’s embrace. Her eyes widened a bit as she couldn’t fathom how it must feel to be greatly favoured by one of the greatest mysteries of this world.
He must love and adore her so much to even bring her right back from the dead so she could remain with him for life.
Alveerah’s eyes fell slightly in sympathy at the poor human sleeping in the serpent’s possessive hold.
It must be suffocating to know you can’t even die or rest in peace with a lover like this.
’’Who is she?’’
The hairs behind Alveerah’s neck stood at the sound of that voice. It wasn’t menacing, dark or grovelling like she imagined.
It was calm, normal but with an air of danger lurking. It sounded like something you wouldn’t want to hear when angered.
Or maybe she was simply just overthinking it too much.
But nevertheless, it made her feel on edge and at the tip of her toes. Her heart raced when Madam Alove turned to her to introduce herself to the prince.
Alveerah stepped forward bravely, not knowing what to do or how to behave properly before something that could squeeze the life out of her and break every single bone in her body.
’’Your Divine!’’ Alveerah moved to bow down completely before the bed. Alove turned to the demon with a sharp look.
Alveerah felt it, shivered and gulped.
Fine. I might not be making it out of here alive.
At least, I got to see the face behind all those bone chilling rumors and indeed he was made different from anything they could name or imagine.
’’Alveerah presents herself before His Greatness. Ready to serve and obey. Do whatever thou wish.’’
Alove glared daggers down at the maid making a very provoking and silly introduction while inviting her death as well. She was also doing a very good job staying calm and could as well be sent back to Hell and return whenever she was ready to serve properly.
Alove felt his eyes move from Alveerah to her. She calmly faced Grim, bending her back in apology.
’’Please be merciful, Your Grace. She is new here and still learning. I apologise once again if you were offended by her greetings. It wasn’t in her intention to mock his highness with the title of your divine,’’ she mentioned the last part while giving Alveerah a burning look.
One that made breathing tight and swallowing stressful. She only stared at the ground more in shame.
She was just trying her best not to get killed before this monster.
And it seems she has done just that.
But luckily, the primordial beast of eden didn’t look to be in the mood to deal with a lowly demon that called him divine. He seemed more interested in making the human in his hold much comfortable and clean of all the blood on her.
The ancient being moved from the bed and Alveerah couldn’t help but stare at him with her lips wide apart.
Her eyes staring at him without meaning to.
Noting his every move as he was perfect in every way.
Like he was made intentionally to look like this. To rival the beauty and perfection of the red dragon himself.
He could easily pass off as a divine being than some ions old crawling beast.
When he turned around to reveal the true length of his hair. The fullness and richness of its glory. His face, lips, eyes and his admirable height and physique.
Alveerah blinked.
Her heart stopped as he stole her breath away completely, shaming all former imaginations or fantasies she has ever had of how the gorgeous prince of hell was supposed to look.
But the hard and unfriendly gaze he gave her, made that beauty of him hard to stare at openly like this and admire. It was like he saw how quickly she was captivated by his looks like so many others and hated it.
Alveerah looked away quickly while still feeling the burn of his golden gaze on her.
’’I want her changed into something else and cleaned up without hurting any part of her,’’ he said, with a strange emphasis on not harming her in any way. Like as if he suspected they harbored any ill intent towards his human love.
’’As you wish, Your Grace,’’ Alove said, with a polite nod. She eyed her quickly to stop kneeling like that like a fool and Alveerah quickly rose to her feet, feeling the hard pounding of her heart against her chest.
Then they waited for the serpent to leave for them to begin.
But he never moved an inch from where he stood, far away from the bed. A tense yet awkward silence dawned between them as Alveerah stared slowly towards the madam.
And madam Alove being the very brave one to tell the prince to step out of his own room so they can clean the human up without him being there to stare.
Alove cleared her throat, earning a subtle irritated look from Grim.
’’Uh...Your Grace, please be merciful as I ask you to step outside for a moment...’’
She didn’t get to finish her request as the serpent turned to lock eyes with her.
