Chapter 73: I Have No Wish

A large bed neatly covered in dark bedsheets sat in the middle of a still, dark room with matching gold and black furniture. The see-through, floor-to-ceiling windows showed the hills, the dark horizon, the city twinkling beneath and the constant flash of lightning as the rain had drifted elsewhere, leaving behind a chill and grim weather that night.

In the still room, a portal opened and two demons walked out of it. One carried an unconscious human with him as the other moved quietly behind, sending quick signals to the few demons he could contact in the building and announcing their arrival.

Azazel held a side of his abdomen when the lingering dull pain was starting to become uncomfortable. He had been thrown off his feet when His Prince had contact with the divine being and having sustained injuries he could only hope would heal quickly. So he could attend to the needs of his Master and the...

Dark green eyes, like those of a reptile, moving stealthily on the face of a still pond towards a prey veered off to the human being laid carefully on the bed.

The demon couldn’t help but keep so many reasons to despise her.

He held her to himself like she was some delicate feather. His golden eyes swept through his bed quickly for anything harmful or might make her lose her life again.

He noticed the dark piece peeking out from underneath the large pillows arranged close to the headboard as his eyes widened in alarm, taking a step back while telling his right hand to check what it was.

He had only gotten her back in just a few hours.

He would hate any inconveniences at the moment.

Or should he burn down the whole bed and ask them to bring in another?

’’Your Royal Highness, it’s just one of the throw pillows,’’ Azazel said, as he pulled out the dark, chibi–sized pillow with so many pointy edges that disturbed the demon prince. Being buried by other larger pillows, it looked suspiciously like a weapon in the dark. But it wasn’t.

Grim’s golden eyes darkened at the fluffy thing.

’’It has too many edges. Get rid of them all.’’

Azazel gasped softly in disbelief, but the rational part of his mind told him it wasn’t wise trying to make the prince feel like he was overreacting after the way he behaved losing someone that might never look at him or the worse, run from what he was as soon as she was awake.

He sighed as he began to gather all the fluffy, throw pillows and said, ’’As you wish, Your Highness.’’

Grim stared down at her once again as Azazel got rid of all the small pillows on his bed.

She was still breathing.

He must be very careful with her now, every little thing suddenly felt dangerous as he might not be lucky next time to bring her back if anything happens.

He would make sure her health is checked by the best physician morning, noon and—no, every hour is safer.

He gently lowered her to the bed, easing his hands slowly as she laid back being extra careful with the process. His heart racing as he feared doing something wrong ... .hell, was the mattress even comfortable enough?

He asked Azazel and the demon quickly replied that it was one of the best ones of this world and that his prince had nothing to worry about.

With great hesitation, Grim pulled away from her and covered her completely with the bedsheets. The long strands of his unique white and dark hair moving over his shoulder with every small move he made around her. He paused when he noticed the dirt and blood still covering every inch of her body.

He touched her cheeks slightly and noticed how it burned with a slight fever from staying so much in the rain. His eyes moved over the dress still on her.

The dress she had died in.

Grim stepped away fully from the bed and swayed a bit, feeling drained as well from all the stress of Hell and bringing her back to life.

’’Your Royal Highness,’’ Azazel called in alarm, stepping forward to reach him but Grim raised a hand to stop him. He needn’t worry too much because he was fine.

He had gone through much worse and survived. A tiny dizzy feeling was nothing compared to the uncertain feeling of how long she was going to remain this way.

He didn’t mind waiting forever as long as she was still breathing and he remained by her side to guide all corners and endure her safety every day.

The demon prince stood to his full height, his golden eyes fixed on her heavily in silence. A tinge of sadness in them as he remembered what Death said to him.

She didn’t want to return to him.

She preferred laying dead, rotting away to nothing but flesh and bones than...

He felt the tears in his eyes as he looked at her. His left finger rubbed against the second pill in his hold as he thought about it.

Azazel who could no longer keep his mouth shut and worries to himself said, ’’Your Royal Highness, is she really worth giving up your Life Wing for?’’

It was a painful question and one with an obvious answer but Grim refused to believe it.

His eyes moved from Azazel to return to her.

His Anais is worth every single piece of him and even more. She is worth everything and he will do everything to keep it that way.

To make her notice him for once and maybe one day have mercy on him to keep him close.

Azazel was this close to voicing out his thoughts and anger at the foolish prince. Giving up his life force so cheaply away for a mortal who was still doomed to die again come forty or fifty years later.

Just what was the root of this obsession?

There were certainly better–looking demons and incubus that were more worthy his prince could cling to.

The Queen Mother would be furious if she heard such nonsense about his son.

Even the devil would not approve his flesh and blood selling himself away to the divine beings above.

Azazel stared down in frustration, looking grim and bitter but there was nothing he could do about it. He was in no position to tell the prince what and what not to do.

Both hands at his sides clenched into hard, angry fists.

’’I have no wish to be tempted by regret when I have none, Azazel,’’ Grim said, his voice void of any softness as his golden gaze hardened with warning.

’’And no one is to let her know about the price of her rebirth...’’

Azazel refused to accept that. He opened his mouth quickly to protest at such ridiculousness. If she doesn’t know what it costs to bring her back how in the world will she ever consider accepting His Highness’s feelings for her?

Azazel cried out, unknowingly forming a bitter lump in Grim’s throat. The worst thing would be her accepting him simply because she felt indebted to him in any way or something she was expected to do knowing the roots of her resurrection.

’’Anyone,’’ he began, feeling a surge of emotions rise and fall within him. He just couldn’t stop looking at her out of fear of her slipping away if he did. ’’That tries to make her feel uncomfortable, sorry, pressured or guilty about anything...’’

’’Anything that might make me lose her and her sincere feelings forever...’’

Another tear escaped his eyes as he felt weaker and weaker with every word as he glanced towards the direction where his right hand stood, giving him a disbelieving look of horror.

’’Will wish being condemned forever to the bottomless pit was a better punishment.’’

Azazel almost choked, feeling shocked and surprised by the Prince’s words and threat to send demons like them to suffer along with the sinful mortals in the bottomless pit. He couldn’t believe there will ever be a day he will hear such a threat from His prince.

Even the red dragon dares not give such punishment to a demon.

Azazel fell short of words, hell his face easily gave a thousand looks of hurt and what felt like betrayal.

His eyes returned to the human nicely tucked under those sheets and the more he tried to understand what this was about the more he felt his mind and sanity slipping away from him.

But as expected, Azazel has no other choice.

He dropped to his knees, pushing his hands forward and made a promise to him.

’’Azazel and all the other demons here on earth promise to be good to the human and treat her fairly while she remains under your protection. We promise to...’’

He just couldn’t find himself saying this but he has to. For the sake of all the other innocent demons looking up to him for their daily survival under the son of the devil.

’’We promise to love and take good care of her. The truth of her resurrection remains sealed behind our lips until time exists no more.’’

Grim’s eyes moved from him, not caring if everything he said was sincere or not. He has nothing to worry about. He could easily transform and devour them whole should they dare to make her second life inconvenient.

’’Send one of the female demons here to come and assist in cleaning her up.’’

Azazel nodded slowly in understanding as Grim came close to lightly move the stray strands of hair falling on her face. He then settled beside her on the bed, adjusting some parts of her and doing his best to make her comfortable and warm.

’’Hunt down the two demons that was supposed to watch over her for me while I was in Hell.’’

Thunder rumbled in the distance and Azazel felt his heart stutter for a moment.

’’Yes, Your Highness.’’

’’Do not do anything to them once captured. I would like them to be in perfect condition as they explain to me why she had to be abandoned.’’

The sky rumbled in the far distance. A small smile eased on his lips when he touched one of her hands and noticed how warm they were becoming.

He then stroked the side of her face gently with his other hand, feeling proud of her at the slight progress she was making to ensure her full recovery.

’’Maybe if you all saw my true form and the other side of me, you will all learn to respect me and the orders that I give.’’
