Chapter 71: Family?

The Mistress of Death dared not tell him he brought back his love with little to no help from the Life pill unless she risked losing his Life Wing.

’’Congratulations, Little crawling thing. You did it,’’ she said, finding it hard to be at ease on her Lunar Chariot. A lot of what ifs were running through her head and she was currently fighting to remain in control of the situation.

Who would have thought the mention of ’’family’’ would be enough to make her body submit fully to life?

Family?

What memory of family had the ancient beast awakened within her that gave her the will to live again?

The kind that drove her to her untimely death or...what exactly was she missing here?

’’Your lover is alive and has been returned to you. All thanks to the Life pill.’’

No one said anything else after Death. The dark creatures from the Beyond all peered from a torn fabric of the present world to stare at the first human to fight the Life pill and return fully on her own.

It was more than just a mere miracle.

It felt like she just needed one more reason to choose life again and she would no longer cling to death.

Maybe the little mortal never truly wanted to be gone in the first place. Life just made it hard and impossible to keep moving for her.

Ichor just listened to how her heart beat against him. And it felt like his entire restless nerves went to sleep the moment he heard it while taking slow, deep breaths.

He never thought he would ever cherish the beating sound of a human heart more than he does now.

It sounded differently to him at this moment.

It gave him hope, washing away all his fears and doubts. It felt as though he, too, had been born again alongside her.

He gently shifted her until she rested sideways against him. He brought a finger close to her nostrils and felt the gentle cold intake of breath and the warm exhale. He saw how every wound in her body slowly began to heal. Blood no longer poured from the back of her head. Only the dried blood from her previous life remained on her body as proof of her death and rebirth.

’’Little Crawling Thing,’’ Death could no longer hold it within her anymore. ’’Now that I have fulfilled my end of the deal. Don’t you think it’s time to fulfil yours as well?’’

Taking the Life Wing out of a demon is like a human moving around the face of the earth without a soul.

An entire lifeline cut short to just a few weeks.

To a demon, it weakens them both physically and internally. Their immortality is stripped from them like a robe, making them an easier prey to death, sickness and all the misfortunes of life.

Giving one’s life wing away is like dying but living on borrowed time.

’’Remember that the cost of one life always comes from another. Nothing good in this life is given freely. A soul for a soul, body for body, life for a life.’’

More dark creatures from the Beyond slipped out and moved like flying dark worms in the sky, preparing to take the life wing of a demon. And not just any demon.

The life wing of the devil’s son.

The ancient beast of Eden.

The supreme prince of hell.

Aoeum waited for the demon to surrender it freely before she broke all the rules and seized it with violence. A few heavenly thunder punishments could be endured for a life wing that will guarantee her ascension to a Real God. She was ready to take that risk.

One of her eyes moved over to one of her minions, silently preparing them to do their worst should things become a little heated between her and the demon.

It wasn’t as though the beast could ever match her power or superiority.

She is a divine being, Death itself in physical form with all power and authority and he is just a miserable lovesick crawling thing from hell.

Aoeum prepared herself. Her eyes turned into dark slits when the demon still avoided her while embracing his love.

Would he really not surrender his life wing now that she was back to life...?

’’Little Crawling Thing,’’ her voice took on a darker tone as she was barely hanging on a thin thread of patience. Her knuckles crackled as she balled them into a tight fist.

’’Have you no shame?’’

She asked as she felt her dark power surging within her. Ready to crush those ants beneath her feet in one strike.

Her brainwashed minions were busy summoning her Death Spear. A long, thin spear with one end resembling the mouth of a golden fork and the other end the mouth of a thin, long blade with a sharp point.

The Death Spear was infused with so much resentment and the dark aura of death, preparing to strike the world down into two and destroy everything that comes in the way of her being a Real God.

Once the Death Spear was ready...

’’Little Crawling Thing,’’ she managed to call in a restrained voice as her hands moved around the twelve feet long spear. The dark minions withdrew to the shadows as their queen was ready to teach the immortal below a brutal lesson. One he would never recover from.

’’Surrender your Life wing and fulfil your end of the deal.’’

Another wind trapped in the stillness of time blew softly against her, slowly moving the tension to its peak as her dark colorful gaze was fixed murderously on Grim.

When all she got was silence from his end. Death took a deep, long breath. Her hands tightening around the long spear before she opened her eyes, ready to take what has already been promised to her.

’’Alright.’’

Her minions revealed their dark, red eyes from the chaos behind, ready to watch their master destroy a lowly thing.

’’Since you are not willing to act on your promise...’’

She launched herself from her lunar chariot, pointing one end of the Death spear at the earth, traveling down at an incredible speed, resembling a shooting star crossing through the night sky.

’’Then don’t blame me for being rude.’’

Ichoraisis raised his head slowly from his love as a pair of golden ram-like horns moved from his head, changing the structure of his face briefly into one of an angered heart stopping beast with large, sharp fangs as multiple pairs of gleaming dark-gold wings unfurled from his back to form a protective shield around him and his love.

The wings alone gave off multiple repelling forces in waves, capable of sweeping Azazel off his feet and clashing with the star charging down towards him from above with an explosive force.

The frozen waters of rain surrounding them burst like tiny explosives as Death was sent back from where she was coming from, clashing with her Lunar Chariot and shattered the impressive transporting crescent-shaped divine artifact into untraceable pieces and colliding with her dark minions.

Death gasped as she crashed into the ground with enough force to send tremors through the earth. Her Divine Death Spear rained down around her like tiny shards of glass.

The divine being stared up briefly in horror, her trembling fingers unable to piece her divine artifact together.

Her favourite weapon.

Death cried out as Grim slowly rose on his feet, while gently picking up his love in his arms, ensuring no part of her was hurt again.

Death slowly stopped screaming and broke into a deranged smile, chuckling at herself in dark amusement.

’’Little crawling thing,’’ she said, feeling unhinged. ’’I am a God.’’

Ichor turned away from the divine being, while Azazel struggled to recover from the force of his prince’s powers.

Rain poured down on them like showers as the world slowly eased from the oppressive stilling force of the serpent of Eden. Azazel, still struggling on his kneeling position, stared at his prince as he slowly walked beside him wildly.

’’You..can’t...escape from me,’’ Death said, slowly moving as well as her eyes fixed on the abomination turning his back from his promise.

’’Give me my life wing!’’ She roared like one without sense and Ichor paused. His love remaining untouched by the showers of the rain he held back until she returned to him. And slowly turned to the divine being.

’’It’s yours only after I have given her the life she deserves,’’ he said and it sounded like a promise.

Then those golden eyes moved and darkened as he remembered how she tried to hurt them simply because he wasn’t giving her his life wing now.

’’Till then, wait...for it,’’ he told the divine to wait until he was ready to give it up and Death hissed, wounding the floor beneath her with her deathly nails.

She never asked him to wait before giving him the Life Pill.

This abominable...deceiving...crawling bastard from Eden!

She wanted so badly to strike him down at once...but even after draining his own life force multiple times to bring back the mortal in his hands ... .strangely, he still felt untouchable.

Almost like there was so much more about the neglected serpent of Eden they know nothing about.

His strength and the amount of power he really has to be able to strike down a divine being with his mere wing breath.

Death hissed slowly as she watched that abomination from hell get away with this blow.

Whether you like it or not...your life wing is mine. I will claim it soon.

But for now...

She stared at her broken weapon, seething with the desire for vengeance.

...I will wait.
