Chapter 70: Bring Her Back

’’Bring her back.’’

He said. His eyes fixed on the divine being above and the tension reached the sky.

Azazel opened his mouth to protest against it but the earth responded by lifting the demon two storeys high above the ground, keeping him in place as a pair of cold, grey hands crawled around the back of his neck and silenced him.

’’Shhh,’’ the creature whispered soothingly behind his right ear as he kept struggling against the long, vertical blocks of earth that held him in place in the sky, far from stopping His Prince from making a grave mistake.

The divine being seated on her Lunar Chariot stared briefly at the demon whom one of her minions had quickly restrained and smiled evilly.

’’Are you sure?’’ She asked softly as her attention returned to the demon still blinded by what looked like a one-sided affection.

’’Bring her back,’’ Ichoraisis said, confirming the deal between them and the divine being threw her head back in laughter.

Her laughter sliced through the still air in sharp echoing beats, like a villain who has finally succeeded in her evil plans and has her target right where she wants them to be.

’’Good!’’

’’Very Good.’’

The sky above rumbled as she lifted herself from her Lunar Chariot and behind her long, dark irregular smoke of magic tore through the fabric of this world and danced around her. Each irregular smoke that moved chuckled like vapid hyenas as predatory faces of death flashed briefly down at the demon and worked tirelessly to bring the mortal back to life.

They moved like irregular shadows in the sky as they slowly build two glowing pills with their lifeless aura.

Once the pill was complete, the Mistress of Death slowly collected the two pills and from a distance, Azazel watched with tears flowing down his cheeks.

The divine being smiled at the two, dark pills of life and memory. Then slowly, released the two pills down at the demon beneath.

The two pills traveled down slowly like two keys spinning on a spot. Their dark colors were two tiny floating balls in his golden eyes as he received the two pills from the divine being.

Aoeum smiled again, though she felt it was too easy but at the same time, all caution and worry are often thrown in the wind whenever it involves saving a loved one.

Especially one with a strong attachment and deeply idolized in his heart like some god. She stared down at the lucky human in his arms again and hoped she would be grateful enough to not make him regret it.

Not that she cared enough to know what will happen to both of them after this, but she will find it sad that even after his great sacrifice, she will still be unable to love and accept him.

A cruel smile formed at the corner of her face.

She would love to see him learn the hard way and accept the fact that as long as he was who he was, love or sympathy would always remain a fairytale to him.

She gracefully returned to lean on her Lunar chariot, as her dark minions moved around her once again before disappearing and returning to where they came from. The minion currently holding Azazel in place smiled darkly before retreating to the earth, while letting go of the demon.

’’Too bad,’’ The Mistress of Death drawled as her fingers moved gently on her little plaything. The skull of a victim from hundreds of years ago, one whose soul was the most miserable and whose sweet, tortured essence still lingered on her lips. ’’I have never had the soul of a rejected woman before for a meal. I got too excited and now I am giving it all up just to contribute to a tragic love story.’’

Azazel moved on the ground slowly as he stared in the direction of his prince. Ichor stared at the two floating magical pills in his right hand and the Mistress Of Death looked to see if the demon suspected the life and memory pills she bestowed on him before feeding it to his love.

Aoeum sighed tiredly, rolling her eyes as she leaned more on her Lunar Chariot and said, ’’Little crawling thing, if you wouldn’t believe in any divine being, you should at least trust death more. I am the most certain and the most faithful to all beings. The reward of all beings— the good and the bad, the rich and the poor, the ugly and the radiant. At birth, I make one promise to return and I always do.’’

The serpent said nothing but stared at the pills.

Or maybe trust wasn’t the problem but he didn’t understand why he had been given two pills instead of one. The pill of life.

’’The other pill is a gift from me,’’ Death explained as her sharp nails made slow soothing scratch marks on top of the skull. ’’You can take it whenever you are willing to know why she embraced me at her lowest and then you can decide if you made the right choice by bringing her back to face those monsters again,’’ Death’s eyes moved as she recalled every monster that drove the poor girl to death. ’’Or your selfish feelings for her is much greater than a lifetime of eternal rest in my cold bosom.’’

’’But remember that this rebirth will happen with a slight, unexpected change.’’

She smiled as she leaned on her left hand, staring down at the demon in amusement, shaking her head.

’’But none of those things matter as long as she is there for you to cling on to like a dog starving for affection?’’

Her words were cruel and true.

But he really doesn’t care about what they thought of him, hell, he has been trained for years through pain and consistent bullying to overlook and endure a few things and move on.

He gently fed her the life pill and watched as the magical pill dissolved and slowly began to make significant changes in her, bringing fresh tears in his eyes. He watched as certain parts of her glowed and the multiple wounds she sustained before death healed and became new.

They will never understand how much she means to him. And if clinging to her like a dog starving for her affection was all it takes to give her this second chance she deserves and he was determined to make it right for her in all areas while keeping her as his forever, so be it.

He watched as she parted her lips and drew her first breath.

He touched her hands again and noticed how warm it slowly became.

He placed his ears close to her chest and waited.

His heart raced as his eyes moved restlessly in anticipation of that one solid proof of her rebirth.

When he heard nothing, he moved his face and stared at her. Silently pleading for her not to deepen the pain in his heart.

He then moved her quickly until she was sitting with her back against his chest.

She was still heavy and certain parts of her body still remained dead cold and lifeless.

The divine being above watched as the impatient ancient being tried to quicken her rebirth with his energy out of fear that the life pill would fail before he even got to hear her heart beat again.

It moved them all as he secured his arms around her waist and gave her all of his strength without holding back. His eyes fell close as he concentrated on feeding her so much of his good demonic energy. To motivate her to come back quickly to him, draining himself further of his life force just to make this happen.

’’Little Crawling Thing, just give up,’’ the divine being said when he was already draining too much of himself just to bring her back. Not that she cared, but she still needed her Life wing in perfect condition to make her ascension to a Real God much possible and quicker. ’’At times, the body rejects the life pill if it doesn’t have any will to return.’’

The divine tried again to snap him out of his delusions. Rebirth is not as causal as sleeping and waking the next day. It takes time and effort and how strong the body’s will was to live.

A new wave of fear rose to clash with his already fragile hope.

But he never gave up as he opened his eyes and turned slowly to stare at her.

Not yet ready to admit defeat to death.

His hands remained around her, holding her close as she refused to choose life.

The mere thought of her still choosing to remain like this even though he had given her the chance to come back stronger than ever broke his resolve to remain strong.

Tears he had never shed before and the pain he was still yet to know humbled him completely.

His lips parted slowly as he buried his face deep in the crook of her neck, golden eyes shining with tears as he began to cry.

She really didn’t want to live anymore but he could not let go as well.

More tears spilled out of his eyes as he sobbed uncontrollably, his hands tightening around her begging her not to do this to him.

Azazel felt a tear of his own rolled down his cheeks as he heard his prince cry, each sob growing louder and painful as he slowly began to acknowledge each and every pain. From the time of his birth to the death of his Anais.

His love he didn’t know was dying as he approached her and tried his best to win her over.

So this is what they meant by the pain of losing someone being the greatest thing.

Something that comes in and sticks with one forever.

So, this is what everyone goes through when they mourn at the grave of their loved one.

His eyes fell close as he never stopped giving her a part of himself.

Anais.

Have mercy on me.

I can’t learn how to live without you.

He stared weakly at nothing as she stopped breathing again.

Even if the world and I deserve to lose you, there are a few good ones that don’t deserve your death.

He whispered painfully to her ears as he taunted her with the memory of the three people he was certain had been very good to her since he came to know of her.

’’Your family.’’

The divine being moved on her Lunar Chariot in shock.

’’Stylie...Lin...and Berry.’’

A soft tear rolled down the human’s cheek, causing the divine being to stir restlessly on her chariot at the impossible.

She was sure the human brat would completely reject the resurrecting effect of the life pill or...did she reject it and return on her own at the thought of the family she was living behind...?

It was ridiculous but not entirely an impossible thing. Then she stared in horror at the being clinging to her...bringing her slowly back to life on his own and without even being aware of it.

’’They love you just as much as I do.’’

’’And without you...everything stands still for the rest of us.’’

He said softly and like every other miracle that defied expectation...

Thump.

Thump.

Thump.

Thump...

Corrine’s rebirth was certain.

Anais came back to life.
