After a long moment, Yu Zhiwei’s back, which had just straightened, slumped again. He meekly pulled out his phone.
"What are you calling for?" The voice on the other end was unfriendly.
"Director Gao wants to talk to you."
"What is there to talk about? Why can’t she just tell you directly?"
Yu Zhiwei said nothing, looking up at Gao Qin. Gao Qin cleared her throat. "Hello, Ms. Huang. I’m Gao Qin from the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital’s Gynecology Department. Your examination report is out; we need to have a serious talk."
"Am I alright? Director Gao, you can just tell me over the phone."
"You should come to the hospital. It’s not convenient over the phone."
"Is it necessary?"
"Necessary."
"Alright, give me a few minutes. I’ll be right there."
Five minutes later, a slightly plump woman in a professional suit with her hair in a high bun appeared in Yu Zhiwei’s hospital room.
"Where’s Director Gao?" the woman asked Yu Zhiwei calmly as soon as she entered.
Yu Zhiwei sighed softly and said in a low voice, "Director Gao is waiting for you in her office."
The woman said nothing more, directly taking out several sheets of A4 paper from her bag and thrusting them at Yu Zhiwei. "Sign these quickly. Once you’re discharged, we can go handle the formalities."
That was her reason for coming; otherwise, she would never have returned to the hospital or set eyes on this man who disgusted her.
Yu Zhiwei slowly gathered the scattered papers and looked at the woman. "Do we really have to get a divorce?"
"Just sign it. Looking at you makes me sick."
Yu Zhiwei sighed heavily. "Alright, I’ll sign. But let’s go hear what Director Gao has to say first. I’ll review this agreement carefully when I get back."
"You’re always so difficult." With that, the woman turned and left.
Yu Zhiwei glanced at the papers in his hand, sighed again, then set them aside. He got out of bed, put on his shoes, and followed her out of the hospital room.
Gao Qin watched the two enter and asked softly, "Ms. Huang, are you sure you want Mr. Yu to hear this with you?"
"Just say it, Director Gao. I’m fine anyway. Let him hear it too, so he can go back and sign the paperwork quickly."
Gao Qin glanced at Yu Zhiwei standing behind her, then turned back to the woman. "Ms. Huang, you went for a consultation this morning, how did that go?"
The woman frowned slightly but replied, "There were too many people, so I left without seeing a doctor."
"What’s bothering you?"
"I’ve been on my menstrual period these past few days. The odor is a bit strong, and the color isn’t quite right either, so I went to get it checked."
Then, looking at Gao Qin impatiently, she added, "Director Gao, just get to the point. I have to go to work later."
Gao Qin, obliging, didn’t press further and directly presented the woman’s examination report. "This is your examination report. Please take a look."
The woman shot Yu Zhiwei a sidelong glance over her shoulder, then took the examination report from Gao Qin.
The more she read, the paler her face became.
After quickly flipping through the examination report, the woman stared at Gao Qin. "Director Gao, what does all this mean? There’s TP, HPV, and this HSV... and all these tests, why are they all in English?"
Gao Qin looked at the stunned woman and said slowly, "TP stands for treponema pallidum. The presence of this spirochete means you’ve been infected with syphilis. HPV virus usually indicates genital warts; as for HSV, that refers to the herpes simplex virus."
The woman suddenly asked nervously, "Director Gao, these diseases listed here... are they all those kinds of ’dirty’ diseases?"
"You could say that."
"Are they all transmitted through... that?"
"There’s a ninety-five percent chance. There are other ways, but their probability is quite low."
"Then... then..." The woman looked down at the examination report again, then suddenly looked up at Gao Qin expectantly. "Director Gao, this just means it was a routine screening, right? I don’t actually have these diseases, do I?"
Gao Qin pursed her lips, looking at the woman’s pleading eyes. Although she despised the woman’s behavior, she also felt a great deal of sympathy for her.

Gao Qin sighed softly and said, "You might not have read it carefully. The report states ’present’ for these items, which means you are confirmed to have these diseases."
