Chapter 1002: 682 Stunned result

Early the next morning, Qi Xiaoqing meekly followed her husband. Her demeanor was a stark contrast to how she had been with Yu Zhiwei the previous day. With her hands folded in front of her, she looked like a wronged little wife.

Her husband stood in front of her, his spectacles giving him a very refined appearance.

However, her bespectacled husband had a gloomy expression and stood silently at the doorway of Gao Qin’s office. He ignored Qi Xiaoqing’s attempts to gauge his reaction, not even sparing her a sidelong glance.

On the first floor of the outpatient service, Du Heng walked along, engrossed in the two examination reports he held, while Gao Qin followed closely behind him.

Du Heng’s expression was very solemn. The more he read the examination reports, the deeper the furrow between his brows became. "Director Gao," he asked, "there’s no mistake with the samples, right?"

Gao Qin shook her head. "No, we collected four samples from each person yesterday, and the results from all four samples were consistent."

After glancing over the examination reports again, Du Heng returned them to Gao Qin. "These two seemed so honest," he remarked, "yet they turn out to be the most deceitful."

"Indeed. According to the examination reports, Qi Xiaoqing and Yu Zhiwei were both victims. It’s just as those two claimed yesterday. The quietest people often make the loudest noise."

"We can’t be so absolute," Du Heng mused. "Perhaps both of them lied yesterday, or maybe one of them lied and the other was merely cross-infected."

Gao Qin shook her head. "That’s highly unlikely. With three different viral infections transmitted twice, if only one person lied, it’s impossible for a single virus to be present during transmission and then result in two or three different viruses by the end. Moreover, if we trace it back to two sources, it’s impossible for the transmitter and the recipient of the infection to have different viruses."

Gao Qin stated this with absolute certainty. "So, both of them lied."

Hearing Gao Qin’s firm tone, Du Heng refrained from further speculation. "In that case, Director Gao, please inform them of this result. I need to go to the stroke team for a moment; there’s an urgent matter to handle there. I’ll be back once I’m done."

Gao Qin took the examination reports and nodded. "Dean, should we have them stay at our hospital for treatment?"

"No need. Respect the patients’ wishes," Du Heng replied without hesitation. "We just need to inform them of the check-up results. Whether they want to receive treatment or not is up to them. Where they want to be treated and what kind of treatment plan they choose is their decision. We won’t force them."

After a brief pause, Du Heng continued, "Question them again to confirm if they have a history of promiscuity. Have them notify anyone they’ve been intimate with to get checked at a hospital of their choice.

"Also, clearly inform them of their responsibilities. The hospital will report what they say truthfully, without investigation or coercion. However, if they conceal information or fail to notify contacts adequately, and the infection spreads further, they will bear all consequences themselves."

"I will explain it clearly." Gao Qin, knowing what to do, agreed. She then took her things and headed to her office, while Du Heng took the elevator to the stroke team’s floor.

Gao Qin returned to her office doorway. She looked at Qi Xiaoqing and her husband, who wore starkly different expressions, her own gaze perfectly calm. "Come in," she said. "Your examination reports are ready."

Inside the office, Qi Xiaoqing’s husband maintained his previous air of indifference, while Qi Xiaoqing followed timidly behind him.

Gao Qin, not wanting to waste words, directly pushed the examination reports towards Qi Xiaoqing’s husband. "Mr. Zhang, your examination report is ready. Please take a look."

The bespectacled man calmly shook his head. "Director Gao, please just tell me. Your report is too technical; I can’t understand it. Just tell me if I’m infected."

"Alright." Gao Qin was very direct. Looking at the bespectacled man, she said, "The report shows that you also carry the syphilis spirochete virus. You’ve been infected."

The man’s eyelids twitched violently. He immediately turned to Qi Xiaoqing, but his tone was surprisingly calm as he said, "Look what you’ve done."

"I..." Qi Xiaoqing lowered her head and stammered, cautiously watching her husband.

Gao Qin glanced at them both, then said to Mr. Zhang, "I haven’t finished speaking, Mr. Zhang."

Mr. Zhang calmly glanced at Qi Xiaoqing again before turning back to Gao Qin. "Please continue, Director Gao. I’m listening."

"Mr. Zhang, you’re not only infected with syphilis but also with the HIV virus."

"What?" For the first time, panic flashed in Mr. Zhang’s eyes. He knew what HIV was.

Gao Qin sighed. "In other words, you are now carrying two viruses: one is syphilis, and the other is the HIV virus."

"That’s impossible!" Disbelief filled Mr. Zhang’s eyes. He stood up abruptly, his previous composure completely gone.

Gao Qin gestured for Mr. Zhang to sit down. "Mr. Zhang, please don’t be agitated. Whichever disease was contracted first, it will damage the body’s immune system, making it very easy to contract other viruses. This makes one particularly susceptible to persistent viruses like HIV."

Mr. Zhang suddenly fell silent. Qi Xiaoqing’s eyes widened in disbelief as she stared at the man before her.
