Chapter 34: 34: Curious Female.

"Should I knock her off?" Little Black asked, and Sunnie was honestly agreeing to that.

When suddenly the lady smiled brightly. "Oh my gosh! You guys must be from another tribe!" She enthusiastically approached them, surprising Sunnie.

The brown haired beast lady stared at their tails with intrigue. "These ears.. what tribe?? I haven’t left home before, so I don’t know much about other tribes! Forgive my ignorance! But I’m so happy to meet new people!"

"...."

"...."

Sunnie and Little Black stared at each other, shocked. They guessed they didn’t have to knock off the innocent little girl.

Sunnie smiled. "Really?"

She nodded enthusiastically. "Yes yes!"

"Careful, it could be a trap. It’s not too late to knock her off and throw her into the river," Little Black whispered to Sunnie who glared at him in shock.

The beast girl stared at them closely. "Those ears.. can I touch them?"

Sunnie smiled. "Ah.. sure."

Happily, the girl touched Sunnie’s ears while smiling as if she had achieved her dreams. "Interesting!"

She looked down at Little Black. "This one is so adorable! Can I touch it too?"

Little Black had both arms folded with a frown. "No."

"..."

Sunnie smiled. "Don’t mind him. He’s always like that."

The girl nodded.

Just then, some girls were coming in after their bath to get ready. They all panicked but the beast girl helped Sunnie and Little Black hide behind the rock while she distracted the girls.

When they were gone, she got them out. "That was close," she smiled.

Sunnie was impressed. "Thanks a lot for helping us." She guessed she was actually a good person after all! And they were lucky to have met her!

"No problem," she smiled.

"What’s your name?" Sunnie asked.

"You can call me Zuna!" she smiled.

Sunnie nodded. "Call me Sunnie. Or just Sun. And him..." Sunnie looked down at Little Black. "Call him Little Black."

"That’s not my name!"

Sunnie laughed and looked back at Zuna.

"What tribe are you from? You have such pretty ears!" Zuna expressed.

"Well, the rabbit tribes."

"Rabbit..."

Sunnie nodded.

"When I’m free to leave my home, I’d like to go to this tribe as well!" She sounded enthusiastic. Sunnie could tell she was one who had been kept in this tribe all her life like most ladies here.

"Don’t worry, hopefully in the future we can go together," she smiled.

Zuna nodded.

"It’s dangerous to be around here. Especially if you’re from another tribe, so why are you two here?" Zuna soon inquired.

Sunnie explained their situation.

"Ah! Those are your friends?" She blinked. "That’s bad. The elders already planned on sacrificing them to the moon god for the festival. I heard they were some evil spirit beastmen and sacrificing them would bring us luck on our current issues."

Sunnie blinked. "Ah, that’s bad. Can you help us save them?"

Zuna sighed. "I’m sorry but I can’t. We ladies don’t even have a say here and I’m not smart enough to help you save your friends. I’m so sorry I’m useless."

Sunnie shook her head. "Don’t worry at all. You hiding us is enough! We’ll think of another way."

Zuna smiled with content. "Then I’ll help out."

"Maybe we can use her as bait to force them into releasing them..."

Sunnie instantly closed Little Black’s mouth before he continued spilling the atrocities he was spilling.

Sunnie stared at Zuna with a smile. "Don’t mind the kid at all. He always talks rubbish."

Sunnie then began thinking for a while. "You mentioned the moon god and the festival, what’s all this about?"

Zuna happily explained in detail. It happened that the lion tribe was highly religious. They had a god whom they worshipped, the moon god (which was technically the moon).

They believed it helped them all through their stay here. And so they worshipped it with all their heart.

Zuna also explained the purpose of the festival. She explained the issue the land had been recently facing.

Their main source of water had grown more unconsumable, and on the other hand, some of their men were falling sick with a strange illness.

They believed the presence of these evil beastmen (Sunnie’s husbands) might have something to do with this, so they planned on sacrificing them on the day of one of their festivals.

Sunnie could casually detect the patriarchal set of religion here. What she knew about was the MOON GODDESS, but she found it fascinating that this tribe made it into a moon god. A male.

But apart from that, she also noticed that the sickness they spoke of could possibly relate to the water (something they probably hadn’t figured out).

And this had Sunnie thinking of some possible ways she should use her wits to turn the tables and save her beast husbands.

"The festival will be starting soon. The females will be summoned soon to serve and entertain at the festival. Will you be staying behind to hide or will you be coming with us? It’s dangerous out there so I’d recommend staying back."

But Sunnie had already made up her mind. "Don’t worry, we’ll be coming out in disguise. We’ll be joining the festival." Sunnie was coming up with a fascinating plan she would use tonight to free her husbands.

Little Black stared at her. "Are you on a mission to die before midnight or something?"

"Don’t worry, I have a plan. I’ve got it under control," she smiled.

Little Black simply sighed. "Oh moon god, if you’re around, please don’t let her wild ideas lead to our doom."

---

The evening was already bustling with activities at the lion tribe.

The festival was hosted in the middle of the tribe. A huge circular space close to their great tree. A huge fire was set up in the middle of the space and rocks were kept around as seats for the men who sat around, drinking, laughing and chatting.

Cubs ran around the fire that illuminated the whole space, playing and laughing while their mothers ran after them to stop them.

Instructions had been given to bring out the hostages for the sacrifice. While Sunnie and Little Black, on the other hand like most ladies, were preparing to go serve meals and drinks to the men.
