Chapter 1525: Chapter 216 - Samui (4)

"It seems like we have pretty good chemistry," I told her. "Honestly, I think it would be a really good idea if I became your official wielder, Samui."

Samui immediately frowned at me.

"I don’t know what you’re talking about," she said. "Just because I managed to bring out something like that doesn’t automatically mean I’m convinced. Becoming your sword isn’t exactly a small decision."

"So you still don’t want to do it?" I asked.

"That’s right," she replied without any hesitation whatsoever. "To be honest, I still don’t think you’re capable enough. You’ve shown me some impressive power, sure, but are you really expecting that alone to convince me?"

I made a mental image of her crossing her arms as she spoke.

"Strength like that doesn’t really amaze me all that much," she continued. "Do you honestly think pulling off something impressive once would suddenly make me want to choose you?"

Hearing her speak like that, I couldn’t help but think that she sounded surprisingly similar to a tsundere.

Which, honestly, felt pretty strange to me.

At the same time, though, it somehow fit the image I had already built up of her in my head.

She acted tough all the time.

She rejected practically everything immediately.

She sounded annoyed whenever she talked.

Honestly, she was checking all the boxes already.

"Well, if that’s how you feel," I said, "then I hope you’ll spend some time thinking about it. I’m pretty confident that we’ll eventually be able to work together."

"I don’t want to work together with you," she replied immediately. "And I definitely don’t want to get close to you either."

Her response came so quickly that it almost felt rehearsed.

Well, at least she wasn’t pretending.

At least she was being honest.

Honestly, she sounded like she was in a pretty bad mood.

Or maybe she was always like this.

I wasn’t entirely sure which possibility was worse.

"Master, I don’t think you should make this woman your sword," Ayuru suddenly said. "Her personality sucks, and she clearly doesn’t understand how amazing you are."

That felt a little excessive to me.

"You should just throw her away."

That somehow felt even more excessive than before.

"If you throw her away," Ayuru continued, sounding way too cheerful about this entire subject, "then she’ll be stuck here forever. She won’t be able to leave anymore."

Ayuru smiled at us cheerfully.

It was definitely not a reassuring smile.

"She won’t even be able to move around properly. Unlike me, who can assume a human form whenever I want, she can’t do that. If she stays here forever, she’ll never see the outside world again. She’ll end up living exactly the same way she did when she was trapped inside those bandages."

She paused for a brief moment.

Then she smiled even more brightly than before.

"Honestly, it would be really funny if she had to go back to living like that."

I was beginning to think that Ayuru might secretly be a little evil.

Or perhaps not even secretly anymore.

"W-What?!" Samui shouted. "Y-You can’t do something like that to me!"

Apparently, she had become significantly less confident all of a sudden.

"I’m Samui!" she continued. "I’m one of the greatest among all the Cursed Swords! You can’t just treat me like some worthless object!"

"Master can do it, though," Ayuru replied casually. "Right, Master?"

She asked that question way too naturally.

The worst part was that I actually found myself considering it for a moment.

After all, if Samui wasn’t going to cooperate and let me use her properly, then what exactly was I supposed to do with her?

That thought apparently reached her somehow.

"You’re actually thinking about it?" she asked.

She sounded genuinely horrified by that possibility.

Honestly, that reaction alone almost made the idea tempting.

Almost enough to seriously consider it.

"Well, let’s test something first," I said. "Can you try entering my body the same way Ayuru is doing right now?"

Ayuru had already demonstrated that she could remain inside me and come out whenever necessary.

I still had no idea how that actually worked.

To be honest, I wasn’t even sure I wanted to know.

The important part was that it worked.

The question now was whether Samui could do the same thing.

"I’ll try," she said.

She sounded surprisingly cooperative all of a sudden.

Fear was apparently a powerful motivator.

It only took her one attempt.

One moment, she was in my hand.

The next moment, she was already inside me.

I blinked several times in surprise.

"Huh," I muttered quietly to myself.

That had gone much more smoothly than I expected.

"Ugh," Ayuru complained immediately. "It’s cramped in here now."

"Shut the fuck up," Samui snapped back without even waiting a second. "It’s only cramped because you’re already taking up space."

"I’m not taking up that much space," Ayuru argued.

"You absolutely are taking up space."

"I’m very compact for my size."

"You are definitely not compact."

"I’m elegant and very graceful."

"You’re annoying and unbelievably loud."

"I’m adorable and extremely lovable."

"You’re insufferable and incredibly irritating."

I stood there in silence for a few moments.

The argument continued without any signs of stopping.

"Master likes me more."

"That wasn’t even the point."

"He definitely likes me more."

"You literally just made that up."

"He smiled at me earlier."

"He smiled because you were acting stupid."

"I was being charming."

"You were being incredibly irritating."

"I can become human."

"Good for you, I guess."

"I can also cook."

"Congratulations on that achievement."

"I bet you can’t cook."

"I don’t need to cook."

"That’s because you can’t."

"That’s because I’m a sword!"

"Oh, so now being a sword is an excuse?"

At this point, I was beginning to regret asking the question.

Actually, regret might have been putting it lightly.

It felt like I had accidentally invited two siblings into the same room after giving them a list of reasons to argue.

The truly terrifying part was that they had only known each other for a short amount of time.

Their chemistry was somehow terrible and impressive at the same time.

Eventually, I let out a sigh.

Well, this was becoming exhausting already.

It seemed pretty obvious that the two of them didn’t get along very well.

That could definitely become a problem in the future.

Still, I had a feeling that things would eventually work out.

Hopefully, things would improve eventually.

Probably, if I was lucky enough.

Maybe, if fate was kind.

Honestly, I wasn’t very confident about that anymore.
