Chapter 1520: Chapter 215 - Lucielle’s Pride (6)

The reason I defeated her wasn’t actually that complicated.

At least, from my perspective, it didn’t seem all that complicated.

It started when I had asked Foriel something.

"Can you give me the Cursed Sword that you have?"

The moment I said that, however, Foriel looked at me as though I had just casually announced that I was planning to jump into a volcano for fun.

"What do you mean?" she asked, staring at me with an expression that suggested she was seriously questioning my sanity.

"You told me before that you have a Cursed Sword, right?" I asked. "And you were planning to use it to kill Satania."

"That’s right," she said slowly. "So what you’re saying is that you want me to hand it over to you?"

"I’m saying that I’m going to defeat Satania for you," I told her.

For a few moments, she just stared at me without saying anything.

Honestly, I couldn’t really blame her for reacting like that. If someone walked up to me and casually declared that they were going to kill one of the Seven Deadly Sins on my behalf, I’d probably question their mental state too.

Eventually, she let out a small sigh.

"Well," she said, "if I had to choose someone I know who actually has a chance of killing her, you’d probably be the first person that comes to mind."

She paused for a brief moment before continuing.

"But why the rush?" she asked.

"Because I want to prove something," I answered.

She raised an eyebrow in visible confusion.

"Prove what?"

"You don’t really need to know that."

I kept my tone calm and composed.

"But one thing is certain."

I looked directly at her without hesitation.

"Satania and I are going to fight soon."

The atmosphere became quiet after I said that.

It wasn’t because what I said sounded dramatic or anything like that. Honestly, I wasn’t trying to sound dramatic. It was simply a conclusion that I had already reached on my own.

Foriel studied my face for a few moments.

"You sound completely serious," she said eventually. "But why? How can you even be so sure?"

"I already told you," I said. "It’s not something you need to worry about right now."

I leaned back slightly in my seat.

"You should be worrying about yourself instead. This place is going to become a warzone sooner or later."

She frowned as she looked at me.

"You really think you can defeat her?"

"I do believe that I can."

"What if there are several of them?" she asked. "What if Satania isn’t the only one who shows up? What if she brings the other Sins with her?"

"That doesn’t really change anything."

She blinked in obvious disbelief.

"It doesn’t change anything at all?"

I shook my head slowly.

"I can defeat every one of them."

The confidence in my voice sounded almost absurd when spoken out loud, but I meant every single word.

"It would definitely take a lot of work," I admitted. "I’m not saying it’d be easy. But I’m confident that I could defeat them."

She stared at me for several seconds.

Then she suddenly started laughing quietly.

It wasn’t a mocking laugh or anything similar.

It sounded more like the kind of laugh someone lets out when they genuinely don’t know whether they should be impressed or deeply concerned.

"You really do have a ridiculous amount of confidence," she said.

"That might actually be true."

"What makes you so sure?" she asked.

I thought about it carefully for a moment.

"Honestly," I said, "I haven’t really fought anyone at my full strength."

She looked noticeably unconvinced by that answer.

"I’m being completely serious right now."

That somehow made her look even less convinced than before.

"If I actually fought while going all out," I continued, "if I genuinely used one hundred percent of what I’m capable of, then I think I’d be able to defeat them without too much trouble."

Foriel stared at me once again.

Then she laughed a second time.

This time, the laughter lasted a little longer than before.

"I’m guessing you’re not joking about this."

"I really am not joking."

She shook her head slowly.

"If that’s really true, then you’re honestly ridiculous."

That assessment was probably pretty fair.

Even I thought I sounded ridiculous sometimes.

She crossed her arms in front of her chest.

"Still, I didn’t expect you to come to me asking for the Cursed Sword I’ve been carrying around all this time."

She tilted her head slightly.

"Why do you even need it if you’re already so confident that you can defeat them?"

"Because I don’t really want to go all out right away."

She blinked in complete confusion.

"What exactly do you mean?"

"I want to gauge my strength against them first."

For a few moments, she just looked at me.

Then she let out a tired sigh.

"That’s such a roundabout way of thinking."

"Is it really that strange?"

"Yes, it absolutely is."

She didn’t even hesitate before answering.

"If you can defeat them by using everything you have, then why wouldn’t you just do that from the beginning?"

I considered that for a brief moment.

Because, honestly, she wasn’t wrong.

Doing that would definitely be easier.

It would probably be much safer too.

But that wasn’t really the point.

"Don’t you think it’d be fun?" I asked.

She looked at me as though I had just spoken in an entirely different language.

"Fun? You’re seriously asking that?"

"Yeah, I actually am."

I shrugged my shoulders casually.

"Defeating them without having to go all out sounds pretty fun to me."

She stared at me for several more seconds.

The expression on her face somehow managed to convey disbelief, concern, confusion, and disappointment all at once.

That combination was honestly pretty impressive.

"You know," she said eventually, "those are usually the kinds of things people say right before they fail spectacularly because they were too confident."

That was a pretty fair observation.

Historically speaking, people who said things like that tended to die.

Usually, they died very quickly too.

Still, I couldn’t really help it.

At this point, I thought my confidence was justified.

Or at least, I believed it was mostly justified.

I really did think I could defeat them.

Of course, I also thought it would require a tremendous amount of firepower to actually pull it off.

The problem was that I didn’t really have any way of accurately measuring their current strength.

I knew what they had accomplished already.

They had defeated Lilith herself.

That fact alone made them terrifying.

If I had to estimate, their combined strength might have been equivalent to two Great Ones.

Perhaps their strength was even greater than that.
