Chapter 190: Chapter 188: The Exam
"Master Rein" Maxi greeted Reinard with a deep bow.
’Dammit, I really should have used a mask, I never thought Maxi would be the one doing the physical exams.’
"...you are a magic warrior, why are you the one conducting the physical exams?" Rein asked.
"Well, we are currently short of hands, we do have a lot of temporary members but because of our admission rules, we don’t have too many strong dudes rolling in to be permanent members. You have thought us about getting the weak stronger, so this is what we are focusing on" Maxi answered.
Rein put off the worn out cloak he was wearing, "well let’s get on with the exam"
"Do we really have to...I mean I don’t want to die yet?"
"Uh? What do you mean?"
"Everyone might not know but I and the others know of Master’s strength."
Rein sighed, and look at Maxi who was bowing respectfully. Luckily no one else was in the training arena.
"Are you sure?"
"Sir?"
"This might be the only chance you’d get to fight me. Don’t you wanna see how long you will last?"
’Master Rein is right, almost every one of us dreams of fighting Master Rein but we would have to go through Arnette, Jon, Sigrid and Zolin which was not possible, I did manage to overpower Zolin but even then he was caught offguard, pure luck...can I really...’ Maxi looks at Rein and straightens up slowly. He pulled his coat leaving only the inside shirt.
"Oho" Rein grinned, ’I want to use this as an opportunity to really see how strong Maxi is, I should really check with others too?’
The both of them got on the arena, they bowed.
As they bowed some few members walked in, "oh, someone is having exam today."
Ric scoffed and proceeded, "let’s go grab the equipment and go"
Another spoke, "isn’t it weird, I’ve never seen the manager bow so much when trying to examine someone, in fact he’s always so disrespectful"
Ric paused and looked at the two of them.
"Body enhance"

Maxi dashed at Rein very fast and threw a 360 kick, which Rein easily blocked with his arm above his head.
"Lesson number one, you don’t throw a 360 kick after running so much, those kind of kick is always about power, younhave to pack much power, you don’t have the te to pack enough power when you are running linearly, to be particular you don’t have enough time to pack enough power for a 360 kick. Try a punch instead, now go back"
Maxi jumped back and dashed again and threw a straight punch which Rein caught just before it touched his face.
"Seriously... is this how you fight, which instructor did you beat fighting like this"
"..." Maxi looked away, "...my instructor was a magician, he was not so good with hand to hand Combat, so adding what I learn from sir Arnette with my magical capabilities, I was able to defeat him.
"So you are telling me this is what you learnt from Arnette"
"...you might not know it, but Sir Arnette is a very bad teacher"
"...I see, well let me show you how to throw a proper punch"
Rein dashed towards him, without using too much speed.
’...eh fast..’ Maxi quickly crossed his hand on his face to block but Rein reaching his face suddenly crouched, "got you"

Maxi was sent crashing into the arena seats.
"...I thought I held back, did he still have to fly off"
Maxi coughed and stood up, ’...it broke third rate shield’
Maxi closed in again and this time around he dashed in with his eyes wide open, using mana as his senses and boosting his reflexes as he closed in Rein stood still but the moment Maxi was about to throw him a punch, Rein squeezed in his fist into Maxi’s open defense but Maxi quickly shifted Rein’s punch to his shoulder and got punched there instead.
He began to huff, ’Its hectic...it’s so hectic dealing with his punches.’
"...nice Maxi, that’s how it’s done, you are a fast learner."
Maxi huffed continuously.
"...but why are you already, we’ve not even fought for five minutes"

Rein stretches his hand to Maxi, "get up"
Maxi grabs Rein’s hand and stood up. "...I can still go a little bit"
"No its okay, train harder, who’s going to take the magical exams?"
"...me"
"...ah...and you are tired"
Ric from where he stood, watching the match was in awe,
’I grew up, in the slums, the worst part of the streets. No body needed me, no body paid attention to me, but I had a dream, eversince I have seen people those special fight that day, I wanted to become a magician too, I wanted to fight like them too. But no one wanted to spend resources on a homeless kid. I fought my way to barely surviving and became an adventure... then a month ago, I heard student that finished from the school had created a guild. I just tried my luck and joined, but that was where I met Maxi, even though he was younger than I am... he was very strong. A magician worthy of note... to see that magician, being easily defeated like this... this guy ...just because he’s a melee fighter."
Ric jumped off the arena seats where he was, he floated and landed softly.
"Manager, if you don’t mind can I take his magic exam?"
"...Ric you c- "
"Please sir" he asks while bowing on one knee.
Maxi looks at Rein and Rein nodded. Maxi retreated to the arena seat and watched from there.
Ric put off his cloak.
"I am not doing this to diss you of anything, I also understand that you are a melee fighter with much speed. But magic is different. Do you want me to explain the basics to you or should we skip?"
"No, please explain" Rein answered, ’this will be my best opportunity to learn about magic either ways.’
"Okay. Magic is utilizing mana, mana is the essential composition of all things, all things are made up of atom, but you see mana is the force that compose all those atoms together, it’s everywhere, the air, the ground, the cloud, the trees... everything is mana. Now there are three grades of magic, first grade, second grade and third grade. Spells are formulas to utilize mana, it can be recited or once its known its okay. So the grades are basically spell, but the third grade is consist of one-circle to three-circle spells hence can b casted when you have a mana core of beginner entry to intermediate end..."
"...so it’s more like, beginner stage can cast one-circle, novice stage can cast two-circle..." Rein said.
"Exactly. The second grade, is four-circle to seven circle, and can be casted by advanced stage to intermediate superior stage and the highest grade, the first grade, which is eight-circle and nine-circle, there have never been an advanced superior stage that casted a nine-circle magic but maybe a grand-mage can..." Ric tightened his fist as he concluded.
Rein saw the determination in his gaze as he ended the conversation. ’...does he wish to become a grand-mage...we’ll regardless this is a perfect chance to test the spatial magic’
Rein bowed respectfully. "Thank you for the lesson, it was very helpful"
"Okay then" Ric brought out a long golden mace and stretched it forward. Immediately balls of fire began to gather around Rein, multiples of them.
Maxi observed from.where he sat, "if Ric jad the opportunity to attend the academy...then he would have probably been a little like Jon...this is my opinion, though I can’t really say for sure because master Rein is a sword fighter...tsk there’s no thinking about it twice, remembering how he fought the ulamog, this guy can never land a hit on him.

From all directions, the fires rain towards the direction Rein was standing. Ric grinned as he watched the fires bombard the target.

The space behind him open in a circle and Rein came out of the open space.
"Yo" he tapped him from the back
"Aaaagh" Ric got startled and fell on his butt, "...y-you, how are you here?, you were there?..." he asked with a startled face.
"...seriously you already shit your pants just from a single touch, and here I was thinking you might actually be a strong one"
Ric saw the opened space behind him. "How are you able to use a sixth circle magic?"
"...uhhh is it sixth circle?"
"...that is spatial magic, there’s different circle of it, but that particular one, space open is a sixth circle one"
"Oh... well that’s reasonable since I’m in the superior entry stage", ’..
Hehe...thanks to Ane who purified my mana core, light mana now comes in too, though I have more affinity for dark mana, but atleast light mana does not hate me and I also discovered it was because of the two energies inside of me, which combined to form Ra’s energy, the mana was scared of the power it carried. The only thing I’m curious of right now is how these things entered into my body’
Maxi was also surprised from afar, ’I’ve never seen sir Rein use spatial magic, no I’ve never seen him use magic at all. Does this mean he’s good at everything...?’ Maxi wondered.
Ric got up and floated back and stretched his magic staff forwards, a large fire spear formed above him.
"Oho..." Rein grinned, "...he’s not giving up, that’s a good trait."
