Chapter 67: Mana Convergence

A Ranking Battle had begun. So much attention was focused on this battle that even the highest-ranking officials at the academy, including the director, watched it from afar.

"It looks like it’s started," the director said in a whisper.

Suddenly, he was startled by words coming from behind him.

"I didn’t think the principal would be interested in a low-level battle like this," Thalion Morwen laughed as he came face-to-face with one of the country’s most distinguished scholars.

To say he was among the Top 5 Scholars was no exaggeration.

"Mr. Thalion, what are you doing here?" The principal was surprised to see him.

"I came to take a look around. I heard there’s a new seed." Thalion stood beside the principal. "I’m even more curious to know what caught your eye that made you come here. It’s not common for academics to take an interest in students of such a low level."

"I find it more surprising that a researcher like you would be interested in this competition," said the principal with a chuckle.

"Please don’t say that, principal. I’m just a lowly guild boss interested in a promising prospect."

"Talent, huh." The principal stared at Lucius. "Is it true that you met with Lord Gerard at the end of the event?"

Thalion frowned and glanced at him sideways. "I didn’t think that was public knowledge."

"I don’t think it is."

"Your information network is quite extensive, Mr. Lois."

"Haha, everyone has their own network. It’s just that mine is more focused on academics, Mr. Thalion. I can’t compare myself to Ouroboros."

Thalion sighed. "How dangerous it would be if you could compare yourself to Ouroboros."

Lois burst out laughing, but waited for his response.

"What do you think of Mr. Gerard’s request?" Thalion asked.

"Do you think I know, Mr. Thalion?"

"No one could have told you, but I’m sure you know why he came to see me."

"Sigh. Dealing with smart people is always a pain," Lois complained.

Thalion remained silent, watching the battle unfold. They were currently in the first phase.

Lois broke the silence. "I don’t think it’s a good idea to let our star light up someone else’s sky."

Thalion nodded gently and slowly. "But can we give it the brilliance it deserves in our own sky?"

Lois frowned. He couldn’t answer that question.

Even Thalion kept asking himself the same thing.

And so five minutes passed.

Lois noticed that Thalion was much more worried about this than he was. He had come here solely to prevent anything out of the ordinary from happening today, as he feared something might go wrong.

However, Thalion was worse off than he was.

He patted him on the shoulder.

"We’re old enough now that we shouldn’t be worrying so much about the younger generation, right? Just let him choose, but stand up for whatever he chooses... Or just let him live his own life."

"That would be very irresponsible," Thalion laughed.

"But young people are like that. That boy seems bold, but shrewd. I think he knows what he’s up against."

Thalion sighed and couldn’t say anything more.

Both of them focused on watching the Ranking Battle... one that was destined to come as a huge shock to the entire academic world.

The leap from Rank D to Rank C isn’t just a simple rank change.

There’s a reason why Ranks F, E, and D are all held in the same arena: they only work with Level 1 magical tools.

But Rank C requires working with Level 2 magical tools. It’s not just a class rank—it’s an entire level in the field of tool creation and restoration!

That’s why it was so impressive that, a few days ago, the Rank D class beat the Rank C class.

Now it was time for a new Rank D class...

And this one was even better than the last.

-

The two Golems created by both classes were designed for speed. In fact, Lucius hadn’t changed the Golem’s design much from the first one he created; the difference was that this one was of a higher level and didn’t have that unnecessary armor.

Both Golems wielded swords and were equipped with secondary gear.

During the battle, the blows echoed across the arena, creating a spectacular show that caught everyone’s attention.

In terms of points, Lucius’s class was in the lead with 200, but they were close behind with 190.

Therefore, it was a decisive battle.

The sound of swords clashing and the sight of sparks flying made it clear that the battle was evenly matched... until five minutes had passed.

At that point, the Golem from Jake Lakeside’s class drastically changed its attack pattern, and a look of seriousness appeared on its creator’s face.

’A crucial moment. Will it work?’ Lucius wondered.

He watched intently as his latest creation demonstrated its abilities.

The change in attack pattern surprised everyone. It was... familiar.

"W-what!" The leader of Class C took a step back when he noticed it... "That bastard learned our Golem’s attack pattern!" he roared.

Indeed. It was the same one.

During the first five minutes, Lucius’s Golem had managed to learn the attack pattern, using mana tactics that Lucius had come up with over the past week.

He’d never thought of it that way before, but now that he had to face these golems from time to time, he figured it wouldn’t hurt to give it a try.

In the worst-case scenario, he’d lose and stay in Class D for a few more months.

And in the best-case scenario, he’d have a new ace up his sleeve.

He had nothing to lose...

Lucius smiled. He noticed that the golem from the other class couldn’t keep up in the early exchanges, because its attacks missed completely.

’It’s a good way to use Mana Convergence without creating a magic tool based on it. The research has paid off.’

Satisfied, Lucius watched as his research proved successful and his golem emerged victorious in the C-Rank Stadium.

The stadium’s signature blue was painted red that day—the red of a golem that had reached the peak of Level 2 and surpassed its category.
