Chapter 224: Chapter 224: The Calm Before the Storm

In the emergency stairwell at the end of the hallway, the green glow of an emergency light illuminated Doctor Bai Ge’s face.

She leaned against the cold metal door, her fingertips fumbling inside her pocket for a moment. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

She clutched a chip in her palm, its faint blue light pulsing in time with her breath.

"The Divine Fetus is developing faster than expected."

She whispered to the chip, her voice as hushed as a shadow in the corner.

"Based on my initial assessment, it will be born in a month."

A holographic projection suddenly exploded to life in front of her.

Lord Red wore half an Evil Ghost Mask, a Bone Ring spinning rapidly on his fingertip.

"Excellent."

Beneath the mask, his purple eyes narrowed. The cold smile on his lips was laced with venom.

"Tell Louis to have the Blood Erosion Beast Group begin their hibernation early."

"They need to be well-rested to bring us back our Prey."

Doctor Bai Ge’s brow furrowed slightly.

"You intend to launch a direct assault?"

"A direct assault?" Lord Red scoffed, his fingertip suddenly swiping through the empty air.

A holographic map of the B1 Star Zone unfolded, the Administrative Hall’s defense network glowing red in his palm.

"Louis swapped out the defense system’s ’core’ long ago."

His fingertip pressed down hard on the location of the medical bay, and the projection was instantly suffused with a bloody red.

"When the time comes, we just need to lure away those protective Beast Husbands, and the Divine Fetus will be in the palm of our hand."

The chip’s blue light suddenly began to flash rapidly, as if sounding a warning.

Doctor Bai Ge quickly clenched her fist, shoving the chip back into the inner pocket of her white coat.

She raised a hand to smooth her curly hair, which had been ruffled by the wind.

When she turned, the sinister look on her face had vanished completely.

A gentle, kindly smile returned to the corners of her eyes, as if the conversation just now had been a mere illusion.

The blue light of the medical bay gradually dimmed.

Su An’an got out of bed, holding onto Seville’s arm. Her butterfly wings shimmered with fine flecks of gold in the light.

Seville was pointing to each line of the medical report with his fingertip.

The worry in his amber eyes was deep and unyielding.

Su An’an was about to speak but was stopped by a look from him.

He was muttering as he read from his Light Brain:

"Daily walks must not exceed three hundred meters."

"I’m not that fragile."

Su An’an laughed and reached for his Light Brain, but Ying Jiuyao suddenly placed a hand on her shoulder.

The Big Cat had produced a copy of the *Cub Care Guide* from somewhere.

His paw held a pen and drew three crooked horizontal lines under the words "No Strenuous Activity."

"It says so in the book. You dare disobey?"

"I just want a sip of iced juice."

Su An’an looked helplessly at Lan Cangming.

But she saw him pouring freshly squeezed juice into an insulated mug, even mixing in some warm water.

"Too cold is bad for the cub."

Lan Cangming handed the cup to her, his tone leaving no room for argument.

Fei Zhao’s fox tail suddenly wrapped around Su An’an’s wrist.

Another tail brought over a smart heating pack.

"I just looked it up. A low maternal body temperature can affect the Divine Fetus’s development."

"No, I’m already hot."

Su An’an pushed it away with a look of disdain.

Just then, Doctor Bai Ge entered with a benevolent expression, her silver-gray curls swaying gently with her movements.

"The cub’s condition is very stable. You can go for a walk in the garden for half an hour today."

"Only half an hour?"

Su An’an frowned, her fingertips unconsciously stroking her abdomen. "That’s too short."

Seville’s Golden Wings suddenly unfurled, blocking the overly bright sunlight from the window. "Listen to the doctor."

His tone was stern, but he carefully supported her by the elbow. "I’ll go with you."

In the garden, Su An’an took the warm tea Lan Cangming offered her and opened a Light Screen in her palm.

"What’s the progress on the Wasted Female resettlement center?"

Night Abyss’s Dragon Claw swiped across the holographic projection.

"Three sanatoriums have been completed, and the Wasted Females are currently undergoing vocational skills training."

On the screen, the once dusty and disheveled females were wearing brand-new work uniforms, cultivating radiation-resistant crops in a greenhouse.

"What about the Crystal Meat production line?" Su An’an took a sip of tea, a comfortable warmth spreading through her.

"Daily output is three thousand units."

Fei Zhao leaned in, holding a report.

"It’s just that Jox is always complaining about the Mouse Clan stealing raw materials."

Su An’an chuckled. "Tell him to deduct it from the Blood Frenzy Pill profits."

She suddenly remembered something. "Oh, right, what about those powerful families from the Empire and the business tycoons..."

"They’re all behaving themselves."

Ying Jiuyao chimed in while munching on an apple.

"Ever since you promised them distribution rights for the Gang Vine Armor, every last one of them has been as obedient as a cub."

An alarm suddenly flashed on the Light Screen, and its piercing red light illuminated everyone’s faces.

Night Abyss quickly switched to the defense map, his Dragon Claw pressing down hard on the northwest corner.

"Abnormal Energy fluctuations in the northwest corner of the Gang Vine Wall."

"Blood Erosion Spores again?"

Su An’an’s fingertips tensed, and her butterfly wings trembled slightly behind her.

"Yes, we’ve found some more."

Night Abyss sneered, anger churning in his black eyes.

"The Rebel Army just won’t give up."

"Those guys are better at hiding than gophers."

Ying Jiuyao tossed the apple core away, his brow furrowed and his tail slapping the ground in irritation.

"I sent troops to search a hundred-mile radius and didn’t find a single trace of them. It’s like they vanished into thin air."

Su An’an rubbed the Big Cat’s ears. "If you can’t find them, don’t worry about it. We just need to defend the Gang Vine Wall."

’In the original story, the Rebel Army was the legitimate side.’

’When the Heavenly Dao doesn’t want them to be found, not even the Five Great Beast Husbands working together could find them.’

’But thankfully, we still have the power to fight back.’

Su An’an gently caressed her slightly protruding belly.

’She thought of the prophecy circulating on Beast Star.’

’She figured that to fight the Heavenly Dao and defeat the Rebel Army, they could only rely on the Divine Beast cubs she would give birth to.’

"Don’t worry, I’ve installed another thirty thousand Blood Erosion Spore detectors."

Fei Zhao’s pointed ears twitched.

"As soon as any are detected, they’ll be eliminated immediately. We absolutely won’t be caught off guard like last time."

Su An’an gently caressed her slightly protruding belly.

In a corner of the garden, Doctor Bai Ge happened to be passing by. The blue light of the chip in her pocket flashed once and was gone.

"Your walk time is almost up. It’s time to go back and get your blood pressure checked."

"Okay!" Su An’an got up, supporting her back. The Big Cat quickly helped her back to her hospital room.

Seville, walking at the very back, glanced at Doctor Bai Ge’s pocket, his brow furrowing slightly.

「A month passed in the blink of an eye.」

Su An’an’s belly had grown to the size of a small melon.

The Five Great Beast Husbands were treating her like she was made of fragile glass, wishing they could just have her lie in bed all day.

Seville’s Golden Wings were constantly half-wrapped around her, and he would even nervously hover a hand to support her if she took just two steps from the bed.

Every day without fail, Ying Jiuyao would be by her bedside for a morning reading, holding the *Divine Fetus Care Guide* in his mouth, his tiger tail anxiously slapping the ground.

Night Abyss personally tasted every meal, his Dragon Scales more sensitive at detecting toxins than any instrument.

Lan Cangming’s Ice Crystals constantly monitored the fetus’s condition; even a single sneeze from Su An’an could alert the entire medical team.

Fei Zhao’s fox tails had become an all-weather, temperature-controlled blanket, and he wouldn’t leave at bedtime until he had told three fairy tales.

"You guys are being ridiculous!"

Su An’an protested for the umpteenth time, only to be gently pushed back into the recliner by Seville’s Wings.

"It’s the last prenatal checkup. Be good."

In the doctors’ lounge, Bai Ge locked the door from the inside, drew the curtains tight, and tapped her finger on the blue chip.

The due date is tonight. How do we proceed?
