Chapter 293: Message [2]

The bank was as busy as usual.

Seeing the number of people entering the branch, it was clear that the attacks hadn’t stopped the business operations in any way.

Many people had begun visiting Syma in order to show their solidarity for the business.

The business had even received a major boost in the recent days.

Walking through the entrance, I could see guards lining up on either side of the gate, their eyes scanning the crowd for any signs of miscreants.

The first thing to greet my eyes was the same usual hall, that was now filled with scores of people, all chatting amongst themselves or engaging in conversation with the staff at the bank.

I observed the crowd for some moments, before walking towards the area where the manager should have been present.

"Sir, how may I help you?"

Seeing me walk towards the manager’s office, one of the employees at the bank blocked my path before asking the question in a firm yet polite tone.

"Tell the manager that I am here to meet him."

My words made the employee frown in response as he scanned my face several times.

"I apologize for being rude, but may I know your name so as to inform the manager?"

Sigh.

Knowing that I would be using the branches of Syma’s banks to communicate with D.X., I had asked Julien to let all bank managers know that I am one of the partners of the bank.

Since I was planning to let everyone know of my connection with Syma, laying the groundwork for that felt like the reasonable thing to do.

After all, the top hierarchy in each bank should know me, as that was how people like Damian would be able to verify the authenticity of my claims regarding being close to the bank’s top leadership.

"Kael Frost."

Mentioning my name felt a little weird for some reason.

The bank staff standing before me nodded his head, before sending some sort of message through his communication device, and—

Within a few moments, his expression changed from being polite to slightly bowing his head before me.

"I must apologize for my lack of knowledge and my inability to recognize you. The manager has tasked me to escort you. Please follow me."

Saying the words, the staff member began to walk ahead, motioning me to follow him.

I didn’t know why, but the guy felt a little robotic in his voice, like he was programmed to speak in a particular way.

Though the situation was amusing, there was no change in my expression, as I didn’t want the guy to think that I was insulting him.

After all, I had to show some respect for the people that had decided to work for me, even though they had no idea about their real boss.

And it wasn’t like someone’s way of talking was a thing to laugh at.

The walk was short as within a minute we had arrived before the manager’s office.

I watched as the staff member knocked on the door, before motioning me to enter.

Seeing no need to act reserved, I opened the door before me, as a bright office greeted my eyes.

"Sir, please have a seat."

Looking to my right, the manager stood up from his place before inviting me to sit on the sofa across from him.

Willing my legs to move ahead, I made myself comfortable on the sofa, as two cups of coffee were served on the table before me.

Hm?

One thing that I had noticed was that the people in this world had a common preference for consuming coffee.

No matter who it was... everyone had always served me coffee and nothing else.

There should have been more drinks available in the market, but maybe... coffee was considered a sign of nobility or high class in the society.

"Is there any message for me?"

Before the manager could ask me about my intentions to visit the bank, I stated my purpose, while gently lifting the cup and taking a sip from it.

Bitter.

The amount of sugar added to the cup was decent enough, but the coffee beans might have been added in surplus, as a very bitter taste overwhelmed my tongue.

Though I couldn’t deny the effectiveness of the coffee in being able to refresh my mind within seconds of consuming it.

"Uh... please give me a moment to check."

Saying the words, the manager bowed once again, before moving towards his desk and checking for the required information in the database.

I waited patiently while consuming the coffee from my cup.

"Send the letter."

After entering some keys into the device, the manager ordered the staff, before moving towards the sofa and taking a seat opposite me.

"A letter had indeed been sent for you. Please wait for a while—"

"Sure."

Seeing my calm reply, the manager went quiet, as he lifted his own cup of coffee.

"I had been asked to look for the messages only when you demand them, that was why I hadn’t informed you about it or else I would have sent the letter to your residence—"

"There’s no need for that. Just follow what you were ordered to do."

"Y-Yes."

The manager nodded his head, as we waited for the letter to arrive, and—

Knock. Knock.

"Come in."

On the manager’s words, the door was opened as a female employee of the bank stepped in, before walking in our direction.

Taking the letter from her hand, the manager dismissed the girl, leaving the two of us in the room.

"Here."

Verifying that the letter was addressed to me, the manager placed the letter on the table, before motioning me to receive it.

"The confidential messages are always stored in the bank’s vault to avoid being leaked or misused by any of the employees... including me."

Nodding my head at the manager’s words, I tore open the envelope before reading the content inside.

Haa...

The letter stated that Sophie had resisted a lot at the start, but Arthur had somehow been able to convince her to attend the academy.

That was good enough.
