Chapter 314: In Places You Never Thought Of [1]

It was three in the afternoon.

The weather was cloudy, with simmering black clouds covering the blue sky.

Looking up, it was clear that it would rain soon.

Sitting inside a carriage with a smooth white marbled interior, Leon felt that it would be a peaceful day today, even though he and Eula would be raiding the King’s private room tonight.

It was not like Leon was worried, heck... worry would be the last thing he would be having after what he did at Evana City.

Compared to that, this was nothing.

As the carriage entered Shinra’s District 77, a fresh aroma of something sweet triggered his sense of smell.

Beside him, Alice practically leaned toward the window to take a look outside.

"Wow, look. There are so many stores here."

District 77 was one of the few newly opened shopping districts in Shinra.

After what happened at Tiara, the majority of the merchants had shifted here to sell their goods to the common public.

But after Tiara was recovered from the disaster, the newly opened stores there returned back, and only the luxurious ones remained here.

So every store which existed here was only meant for high-standing people, who could afford them without looking at the price.

It was a perfect place for those nobles who did not like the earlier chaotic environment of Tiara.

Nobles like Alice.

It was a good thing that had happened after the incident. At least they had this perfect place opened so close to Eclipse.

’Hmm, I wonder where I should be looking first.’

Leon thought as his eyes scanned all the shops passing by.

This was a new place for him as well, which never existed in the game before, so for Leon it was a brand new place to explore.

But right now Leon was here for an important business, and not for some window shopping.

Surely he did not have anything new to wear for tonight, but that was not his problem.

He had already informed Myra about the banquet, so getting him a new suit was her job now.

Leon glanced at the person sitting in front of him.

Ayaka, with her legs crossed was scribbling something on her memo pad.

She was wearing a white shirt which was buttoned up till her collar, and a black pants below which was buckled with a leather belt.

All of it topped with her wooden brown cotton long coat which reached her knees.

Leon had to admit, she indeed looked like some insanely rich business lady.

Who would have told that this business lady was actually one of the Eight heads of an underground organization.

Well, now that Leon thought about it, inside the carriage, except for Alice, he and Ayaka both were a part of a criminally labelled organization.

"...."

To kill the time, Leon decided to chat with her normally.

"Lady Ayaka, are you here to shop as well?"

Ayaka stopped scribbling, and raised her eyes at him.

"Why yes. My little baby Tia seems so tense for the last couple of days now. So as her mamma, I thought it would be great to bring her something."

"Oh, right. The whole Class S was tense after Professor Esther lectured us."

"Haaah... Esther had an old habit of making things complicated. Do not mind her though, she might look rough on the outside, but she is the only person I know with the kindest heart. Believe me, she was as tense as her own students."

"Right... by the way, are you and the Professor friends? You know, from the way you both were chatting, I thought you were old classmates."

Leon knows the answer to it already, but he asked anyways.

Ayaka narrowed her eyes at his question.

"Dear, were you eavesdropping on us?"

"Huh? Uh, not really. I kind of heard your conversation because this was our very first time hearing the Professor talk this way."

"Ah well. We were not really classmates. Actually, I was two years above her. We just happened to be in the same research club back when we were studying at Eclipse ourselves."

Alice joined in the conversation.

"Leon, you might not know this, but when Professor Esther gets drunk, she would show a whole new personality of hers."

"Hahaha, right right."

Ayaka sneered at Alice, she seemed to be recalling something from her old days.

"Let me tell you both something funny. Back in our Eclipse days, the whole research club had to secretly forbid Esther from drinking alcohol."

"Haah, reonable decision."

Alice leaned back.

Leon did recall that Esther had those perks in her character.

There was a scene in the game where Esther once burned down a whole village captured by bandits, back when she, Ethan, and some others were tasked to save that very village.

Alcohol struck her in the strangest way, which became quite deadly for everything around her whenever she got drunk.

Leon wondered if that scene would happen again this time around. Although that particular event was way, way far into the future of the story’s timeline.

’What if that part was also unaffected by the butterfly effect?’

Leon still had not tested his theory regarding it yet.

Ever since he had realized that some events in this world seemed resistant to change, no matter what happened around them, he had wanted to test exactly which events were fixed and which were not.

But it was not something he could test carelessly yet.

. . .

The carriage rolled to a steady halt after quite a long ride.

Although they had entered District 77 a long while ago, it still took them 30 whole minutes to finally stop at the right spot.

Leon stepped out last.

He bowed to Ayaka for the ride and told Alice that he would meet her at the exact same spot after an hour.

He did not want to roam around with Alice, so leaving her be to do her own little shopping was a perfect idea.

Surely Alice nodded, feeling the same.

Leon parted ways with the both of them and headed in the opposite direction as them.

’I wish Rumi was here....’

Leon thought as he walked toward a map attached to a board.

Rumi was not with him at this time.

After her body got stabilised with the Elven core, she tended to leave Leon’s consciousness and roam around on her own.

Leon did not mind it much, as long as she did not go to the places which Leon had restricted her from visiting.

’All she does is go to a cafe and eat...’

Leon complained inside his head.

Leon had borrowed an extra pair of Eclipse uniform from Eula for Rumi to wear.

That way, even if she roamed around inside the Eclipse campus, no one would suspect her.

As Leon walked along the roadside after checking the directions from the map, he frowned after he heard the murmuring voices behind him.

"Uh, hey, what is that thing..."

"It looks like a metallic beast..."

"Hey hey, do not touch it."

Leon turned toward the sound, but all he could see was that a crowd was standing close to the slope, circling around something which he could not see.

’What is happening?’

He looked at the direction for several seconds before rolling his eyes and turning around.

’Whatever, none of my business...’

Leon ignored it and continued walking with his usual pace.

The clouds above curled with a light growl, signaling the upcoming rain.

’Ah shit, I need to run.’

He fastened his pace, and took the left turn, walking past several dozen shops, his feet stopped right before a three story building squashed tightly between two other clothing shops.

[Aurora’s Fragrance Shop]

He read the name of the shop.

"What is with her always choosing Aurora....?"

He muttered before walking toward the entrance of the shop.

Just like her previous shop... Aurora’s Cherry Shop, this one had a similar tone.

It was as if she was onto starting a chain of different brands.

Although this one seems quite legit.

Leon pushing opened the door, greeted by a female attendant wearing a nice salesperson attire.

"Greetings sir, welcome to Aurora’s Fragrance Shop. We have a huge range of fragrances which were imported from all five kingdoms. What might you be looking at, if I may ask?"

She seemed very elegant.

Her cropped hair lengthened to her neck, and those matching black eyes, a perfect person she chose, if Leon were to say.

’I wonder if this is an assassin or a normal person...’

Leon could not guess, to be honest. This place looked like an actual fragrance shop from both outside and inside.

Maybe she was a normal person. Then again, Leon had some doubts.

He, with his usual tone, told the saleslady.

"Tell Hibuki that her master is here."

Hearing that, the shopkeeper’s eyes twitched.

"I am sorry?"
