Chapter 313: Fuck! It Hurt So Much to Say

Seeing the paper in his hand, a sudden flashback dabbed inside Leon’s head.

It was a memory pulled straight out of his old world.

It was the time when he had been standing inside a corporate board room, getting praised by everyone around him.

He was called the one in a million genius who bore the knowledge of not only tech, but also engineering, philosophy, and even psychology combined.

Haru had thought that no one could come close to his level when it came to innovating anything new.

It was a pride of his.

One could even call it his ego, which he wore like a badge across his chest everywhere he went.

He remembered the president of several countries smiling at him, nodding at every word he spoke.

The way even his rivals had to admit that whatever came out of Haru Tsukishiro’s brain was ten years ahead of everyone else in the room.

He had been the golden boy of the century, the one who could not be topped.

Or so he had thought.

’I cannot believe this...’

Leon thought silently as he stared at the formula on the paper in his hand.

Because there was no way in hell that a girl who was still very very young, running on almost no sleep and eating pastries as her main source of energy had innovated something Nobel Prize worthy.

If Alice were to be in his old world then she would be the one called the real genius of the century.

"What happened? Your expression is disgusting me out."

Alice suddenly said, her eyes twitched slightly as she watched him space out in front of her.

Leon had no words at first.

Alice had asked if she was a genius or not.

Well...

She was....

If not her, then who else would be worth the title.

Now Leon thought carefully before answering her.

Her ingenuity was something he could use for himself. And for that, he would need to be very careful with his choice of wording. If he under-praised her, she might get emotionally hurt and stop working on his weapon or anything in the future.

But he did not want to over-flatter her either.

’Sorry, Alice. You are actually the greatest genius I have ever met in two entire worlds. But I cannot tell you that yet.’

’Haru, are you jealous—’

’No I am not!’

He quickly shut Rumi up inside his head.

What did she mean he was jealous?

Jealous of who? Alice?

Like hell he was!

He was the one who made her!

Jealousy would be the last thing he would ever have.

"...."

..sigh...

’I need to calm down.’

Realizing soon that he was getting annoyed by his own thinking, Leon cut off his childish thoughts.

Leon coughed once, then decided to just be clear about it.

"I am impressed, Alice."

Alice sat down, and grinned widely looking up at him.

"So you admit that your designs have flaws?"

Leon’s vein popped up at the side of his forehead.

"...Y-yeah. I admit."

His throat hurt slightly as those words left his mouth.

’Fuck it.’

"Hmph."

She beamed with a prideful expression, her dark circled eyes practically glowed with satisfaction.

Before she started to act annoying again, Leon quickly changed the topic.

"Anyways. This prototype is great, how much time do you think it will take to fully complete it?"

Alice looked at the prototype for a moment, before tilting her head slightly.

"Mhm..."

She scratched her chin.

"I need to adjust the magical formulas with respect to the empty slot you left here in the middle. Uh... but without knowing what kind of energy source you will be using inside it. I cannot say for sure to be honest."

’Fair enough...’

Leon thought silently.

She could adjust the weapon body with regards to any mana core strength, that was not a problem for her.

But the actual issue was that the core inside this weapon would be running on Astral Matter. And Alice had never even seen Astral Matter in her entire life.

Even if he described it to her, she would have to spend weeks studying its properties first before she could safely design the artificial core around its behavior.

That was not something Leon could afford right now.

He had indeed thought about this problem earlier, and that was why she had asked Anise to do him a favour.

This favour of him would benefit both him and Alice.

’I wonder how she would react once she finds out.’

Leon scratched his cheeks and asked Alice.

"I will need you to keep one month free right after your final research assessment ends."

Alice raised an eyebrow at his sudden request.

"Why?"

Leon smirked as he replied.

"I have assigned a perfect teacher for you. Someone who will teach you how to make this weapon even more perfect."

"Excuse me?Teach who? Me? "Leon, I do not need any teacher for this. And besides, I do—"

Leon swiftly added, cutting her off before she could go on.

"Even if the teacher was someone from Evana?"

"...Ah."

Alice’s mouth slightly parted at the sudden mention of Evana.

That expression alone had given Leon the answer he wanted.

"Great, be ready then. She is actually a really busy person, so you will have to adjust yourself around her schedule when the time comes."

He had personally asked Anise herself to take Alice under her wing when the time came.

After all, Anise had worked on mostly everything related to Astral Matter that ran through the systems of Evana City.

And coming from Leon himself, Anise didn’t reject his offer.

Leon quietly smiled to himself.

He was about to hand Alice the fastest possible growth for someone in this world.

She would leap generations ahead of every other researcher on the planet in just a few short years.

Second to Eula, Alice was his greatest asset. And to use her potential to the fullest, Leon would need to earn her full trust and favor.

Doing all of this, Leon would actually be helping Alice’s personal life as well.

After a few short years, even Alice’s own family, and the people who had once mocked her attitude, would all be lowering their heads before her.

He would do everything to make her earn her title.

Once again, seeing the girl he had hated the character of before coming here, he kind of understood why Alice Nightson was ranked #1 in the online forums.

’Guess her fans saw what the creator didn’t...’

After chatting and discussing about their research with Alice, and even helping her out on a few technical points here and there, Leon finally rested freely on his own desk as Alice settled the last stack of papers for her three research assignments.

"Haah... I still can’t believe you are helping me today, Leon. Well this will make my work a bit easier from now on."

Leon simply waved his hand casually without looking back at her.

Now all that was left for Leon for the rest of today was to attend the banquet tonight.

Eula had given him the invitation directly.

That being thought...

Alice said out loud.

"Alright. All that is left is shopping for a new dress for tonight’s banquet."

"Hm? Are you going out?"

"Yeah. I cannot miss this chance, you know. The people from Evana will be here at the banquet! Do you know how excited I am about this?"

Yeah...

That much he could clearly tell just by looking at her face.

Her dark circled eyes were practically glowing at the thought of seeing Evana’s technology for the first time.

"Anyways, Leon." Alice suddenly asked as she began organizing her workspace. "Was your sister coming too?"

His sister?

Well....

Leon could easily picture Veronica crouched inside her tower with her usual desk buried between piles of official papers.

She probably had not even opened the banquet invitation properly. Or if she had, she had already tossed it aside without a second glance.

"No, she will not."

"Thought so."

Alice let out a small chuckle to herself.

"Your sister is scary sometimes, but honestly, I respect that she does not care about these things. Half the nobles at the banquet will probably try to worship her feet if she shows up."

Leon almost smiled at the image.

Yeah, that would definitely happen.

Her presence at a royal banquet would basically kill the entire political atmosphere.

Every noble at the ball would immediately abandon their political discussions to try and get in her good graces.

That was exactly why Veronica avoided these events.

Leon and Alice together left the room.

Downstairs, they could not hear the chatting between Esther and Ayaka anymore.

Alice peeked at the room quietly from around the corner, and saw that no one was there anymore.

"I think they are gone."

"Who is gone?"

A voice suddenly called out from the door behind them.

"Hieek!"

Alice flinched hard, and turning around, she found out exactly who the voice belonged to.

"M-Madam Ayaka?!"

"Hmmmmm."

Ayaka hummed as she smiled at her.

"What might you be doing here during your class hours?"

She teased Alice with a soft playful tone.

Before Ayaka’s eyes shifted toward Leon standing beside her.

"Oh. You are here as well, Leon."

Leon simply and politely greeted her back.

"Good afternoon, Lady Ayaka."

"Are you here to do your research?"

Leon nodded.

"Yes. We just finished it a moment ago."

"Good good."

Alice noticed how Ayaka’s whole attitude subtly changed when she started chatting with Leon.

’What is this partiality?!’

She did not like it one bit.

Ayaka was playing favouritism in broad daylight right in front of her.

That was completely unfair.

"Are you both going back to your classes now?"

Ayaka asked the two of them, to which Leon casually answered first.

"Not really, I have some work to do down at District 77. So Alice and I were about to head there together."

"Oh? Is it for tonight’s banquet at the castle?"

Alice blinked in surprise at Ayaka’s question.

"You are invited as well?"

"Of course I am. Who do you think I am, dear?"

Ayaka smiled with a small tilt of her head.

"...R-right."

Ayaka flipped her long hair back over her shoulder gracefully then she picked up her coat from the hanger by the door and slid her arms into it.

"I am going there as well. Come on, I will give both of you a ride to the district."

"Huh? For real?"

Alice jumped at the offer.

Ayaka smiled and nodded.

"Yes. And you can have a treat on the way as well. For all your hard work, uh... Alice."

Ayaka’s eyes softly settled on Alice’s face for a moment.

She too had noticed her dark circles, and her messy hair that looked like she had lost a fight with a wild bear.

As for Leon, he did not really care about any of it anyways.

He had his own reason to head to District 77 first before the banquet.
