Chapter 103: The Mysterious Girl

The air felt still as both Alen and L had their focus pulled toward the lying woman. Her face was beautiful and young. There wasn’t any change in her expression, which remained calm and pale.

"Did she really just stir, or was it just my hallucination?" Alen asked.

L shook his head.

"No, it couldn’t be a hallucination. I also felt the slight movement..."

"But who is she? And how did she even turn into a statue? Something is definitely wrong with her..."

"She also looks young, not much older than us..." L pointed out.

Alen looked at her resting body, tapping his chin and folding his arms. His eyes naturally fell on the two large mountains resting on her chest.

"Mhmm... by the way, she has quite a big chest..."

L suddenly paused. He turned his eyes toward Alen, his ears turning bright red at his words. He suddenly felt a spike of panic, thankful that he wasn’t in his original female form. He pursed his lips and narrowed his eyes at his companion.

"You! Just a second ago you were calling me a pervert, then what are you?!"

Alen tilted his head and answered calmly, stating it as if it were a simple matter of fact.

"I am just appreciating the greenery. But you had actually just touched it. So, who would be called a pervert, me or you?"

L pursed his lips and looked away. He felt like beating some manners into him, but he still didn’t move because he didn’t want to create a scene.

"Just look away in the opposite direction. I am going to help her wear some proper clothes..."

L muttered this just loud enough for Alen to hear, and then flicked his finger to summon some female clothes he had stored inside his storage ring. Because he was in disguise, his own clothes were changed magically by the artifact he wore. So he don’t have male clothes, as L is originally a female so there is no need for buying it.

The artifact pendant he wore was an Elite-Grade item that helped him disguise himself as a male. It not only altered his physical appearance but also changed his voice to sound like a man. The rare thing about the item was that it did not emit any mana fluctuations, which prevented anyone from detecting that the person was using an artifact. Unless some extremely strong person appeared in front of him, it was nearly impossible for anyone to see through his disguise.

As L began to take off the cloak he had dropped over her body, he stopped for a moment. He didn’t look back.

"Hey, did you not hear me? I said move away, or do you really want to see the whole greenery?"

"Okay, okay, dude, calm down. I don’t have a pervy side, and I don’t have enough lust to do something to such a vulnerable woman..."

Alen looked away and started walking toward the raised ground to stay there.

"I am not fond of touching an unknown woman. It seems to be your nature instead. Enjoy, buddy. It seems you were not satisfied by just touching her, and now you want to explore. Cough! Cough!"

Alen looked away, staring into the ruins innocently.

L glared at his back, his face turning red at his words. That bastard had completely misunderstood him. But since L couldn’t do anything to defend himself without revealing his secret, he just gave up and started changing her dress into simple female clothes.

After he had dressed her, he stood up.

As Alen felt the movement, he looked back at the beautiful young woman lying on the ground. She wore a simple purple dress, which highlighted her beauty even more.

Alen just looked at her for a second and looked away, not interested in pretty faces.

He had already experienced the harsh reality that pretty women are the most dangerous. They can either manipulate a man or make his life worse than it already was.

He looked at L and said with a teasing smirk.

"Hehe... It seems you have quite a fondness for women? That must be why you carry women’s clothes around along with your gear. It seems I mistook you for a lonely guy. You are quite a bastard yourself. Hehe..."

"Hey! It is definitely not what you think! I-I... am not like that!"

Alen smiled widely.

"Oh, sorry if I misunderstood. It might be your girlfriend’s clothes, then..."

"Hey, I don’t have any girlfriend, and I never will!"

"Oh, so are you interested in men?"

L blushed at his words. He tried to retort, but he had to think about being careful not to reveal his identity during this teasing.

"Oh my, you are taking quite a bit of time to answer. That means there is only one option left. I am going to have to be careful around you..." Alen said, clutching his chest protectively in amusement.

"You—!" L looked at him in disbelief. But suddenly, he felt a faint touch on his feet.

As he looked down, he found that the woman was looking up at him. Her lavender eyes stared at him unblinking. With her pale, emotionless face, she looked even less human, as there was no light in her eyes. She was looking at them lifelessly.

L felt a weird sensation in his mind, as if this person could see through all of his disguises.

Alen also looked at the woman and stood up. He stepped closer with caution.

He didn’t know what kind of trouble this woman was going to bring.

L knelt in front of her and asked gently.

"Hey, who are you? Can you tell me your name?"

The woman looked at L. She slowly parted her pale lips.

"Ava..."

Her voice came out softer than they expected. She looked like a fragile girl who had stumbled into the Ascension realm and had been caged immediately.

"Who are you... And where am I?" she asked, looking at both of them.

Alen and L looked at each other before answering.

"We are Awakeners who just came here to attempt a trial in the Ascension realm... You are also in the trial zone... Are you okay?"

L held her back to support her as she tried to sit up.

"I am okay.... It seems I am okay.... But how am I okay?... What happened to me?... Why am I okay?"

Ava stared at her pale hands blankly. She couldn’t comprehend what had happened.

"Hey, tell us... how did you get here? And why did you turn into statue?" Alen pressed.

The woman looked at L. Instead of answering his questions, she asked one of her own.

"What is the current year in the real world?"

Both L and Alen looked at her, bewildered, but decided to answer.

"It is currently 2502. The year is continued in Asterion... why do you ask?"

The woman looked at them. Her eyes trembled a little as she remained quiet for a second.

Alen looked at the woman sitting quietly on the ground. He grabbed L by the arm and pulled him up. L stumbled and stood beside him.

"Hey, what was that—" L started.

Alen cut him off, staring hard at the woman.

"You asked what the current year is in Asterion. That means you are definitely someone from the real world."

"But judging by your looks, you seem to have spent quite a bit of time in this place, or so I thought. Tell me, are you really the human that came here a week ago to complete the trial?"

Her emotionless eyes settled on him. She wasn’t offended by his sarcastic and hard tone.

"No.... I have been here for more than years... Maybe centuries ago..."

Both of them froze. As they processed her words, they both went on high alert, looking at her with raised guards.

"Who are you, really?" L asked cautiously, looking down at her with cold eyes.

Ava looked up at them and opened her mouth.

"I am Aveline Astrae. A former member of the ’Illuminati’..."

L suddenly moved. He quickly summoned his weapon. As his sword appeared, he coated it with dense silver light. The energy swirled around the blade in a rapid rotation. Without a single word of hesitation, L swung his sword and severed her head from her neck.

*Thud...* *Thud...*

As her head split from her shoulders, it bounced on the hard ground. It rolled for a moment before coming to a complete stop. L stood silently in front of her severed body, his silver sword dripping with blood.
