Chapter 149: All three of you!
Ella.
I let out a nervous chuckle, hoping it would ease the suffocating tension that had suddenly filled the room.
It didn’t.
Instead, the silence seemed to grow even heavier.
Left with no other choice, I discreetly pinched Lugard’s side as hard as I could. I didn’t hold back, as the pinch was sharp enough to make him flinch.
Almost immediately, he loosened his hold and carefully lowered me back onto my feet.
The moment my shoes touched the floor, I quietly let out a breath of relief.
I quickly steadied myself before anyone could notice my uneasiness.
Then, forcing every trace of nervousness behind a carefully crafted expression, I plastered a smile across my face.
I prayed it looked convincing.
"Answer us, Lugard!" Leonard pressed further, as his voice carried an impatience that couldn’t be ignored.
The determination in his eyes never wavered as he continued staring directly at his brother.
"Remember, we never keep anything a secret from each other," he added firmly.
The reminder hung heavily in the air.
For a brief moment, no one spoke.
Lugard simply stared back at Leonard before a quiet chuckle escaped his lips.
"And you, Leonard..." he said, deliberately pausing in the middle of his sentence, as his eyes narrowed slightly. "...Why do you care?"
The question landed like a challenge.
Leonard drew in a long, slow breath, as his jaw tightened.
Then, without saying another word, he clenched both of his fists so tightly that the veins along his hands became visible.
The next moment...
"Because she is my mate!" he shouted at the top of his voice.
The force behind his words echoed throughout the entire room.
"What?"
Both Lugard and Lawrence exclaimed at the exact same time, and almost instinctively, they immediately turned their heads toward me.
Their shocked gazes settled on my face.
I froze.
What now?
My heart skipped a beat.
Are they about to blame me?
Before I could even begin to guess what they were thinking....
"That’s not possible!" Lawrence blurted out immediately.
Panic was evident in both his voice and expression. He looked completely caught off guard.
"And why can’t it be possible?" Leonard challenged, raising his brows as he stared back at Lawrence. "Theresa is right there. You can confirm it," he added confidently.
The confidence in his tone only made my anxiety grow worse.
I swallowed hard.
My throat suddenly felt dry.
Oh well...
What exactly was I supposed to do now?
Should I continue following through with this drama?
Or should I simply pretend to faint...just like those dramatic villainesses always do in the movies?
At least that would save me from answering everyone’s questions.
Before I could make up my mind—
"Stop talking rubbish!" Lugard snapped immediately, as his voice was firm and unwavering. "I know you are trying to pressure Theresa into choosing you," he continued, glaring directly at Leonard. "But she won’t!" he declared without the slightest hesitation.
Lawrence suddenly let out a quiet chuckle.
The sound wasn’t mocking. If anything, it carried a mixture of disbelief and amusement.
He slowly shook his head, glancing from Leonard to Lugard before letting out another soft laugh.
"I really don’t understand you both," he said, as his tone was calm, yet confident and then his gaze settled on me. "Theresa here is my mate," he declared firmly, as though there wasn’t the slightest room for argument and his expression remained unwavering. "So I expect you both to back out."
The words fell heavily into the already tense atmosphere.
For a brief moment, nobody spoke.
Lugard simply stared at Lawrence, completely frozen. His brows slowly knitted together as though he had just heard the most ridiculous statement imaginable.
"You must be kidding me!" he blurted out at last, as his voice rose with disbelief. "Because she is my mate!" he added without the slightest hesitation.
I felt warmth instantly rush to my face.
Heat spread across my cheeks so quickly that I was certain everyone could see how flustered I had become.
These three brothers were truly something else.
None of them seemed willing to back down.
Each of them stood there acting unbelievably possessive, speaking as though I were some priceless treasure that belonged solely to him.
Or worse...as though I were some precious possession they refused to let anyone else claim.
Honestly...It was both ridiculous and exhausting.
I slowly drew in a deep breath before deciding I had heard enough.
Without saying a single word, I walked past them and quietly lowered myself onto the sofa.
The cushions sank beneath my weight as I settled into my seat.
Why should I bother involving myself?
If they wanted to argue, then they could continue arguing for all I cared.
I simply leaned back and watched them.
"What are you all saying?" Leonard asked, looking completely puzzled, as his brows furrowed deeply as his confused gaze shifted from one brother to the other. "This is not some kind of joke to you all!" he added firmly.
"Does it look like I am joking?" Lugard shot back immediately.
The annoyance in his voice was unmistakable.
Meanwhile, Lawrence merely laughed again. And this time, the laughter was filled with disbelief.
"This really can’t be happening," he muttered, almost to himself, as he slowly rubbed the back of his neck before letting out another helpless chuckle. "Must we share almost everything in this life?" he asked with a sigh.
Leonard, however, ignored him completely, and instead, he turned to face me, as his expression softened almost instantly.
"Theresa..." he called gently. "Please tell us it isn’t true," he added softly.
I couldn’t help staring at the three of them.
These brothers were either incredibly dumb or they were simply pretending to be dumb because none of them wanted to accept the obvious truth.
Seriously...
What was there to hide?
I wanted all three anyway.
Finally losing my patience, I rose to my feet.
"Enough!" I yelled.
The single word echoed throughout the room.
All three brothers immediately turned toward me.
"All three of you are my mates!" I declared without the slightest hesitation.
The room instantly fell silent.
