Chapter 307: Chapter 301: The Grand Finale Part 1 (Double-Length) (4)
"They must be proud too, very eager to meet you. How could they possibly blame you?"
"If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have today’s achievements. We’re living well, and Mom and Dad must be very pleased. Every time we burn incense for them, it burns completely to ashes, which surely means they’ve heard everything I’ve said."
Ye Manman chuckled, her face showing a rare hint of girlish charm.
"Humph, then let’s burn more incense for Mom and Dad today. We’ll spend more time chatting with them, and with Yanzhi and Yuchu too."
Speak of the devil.
He Yanzi happened to arrive at their room, holding He Yuchu’s hand.
Upon seeing them cuddling together, He Yanzi pouted with a grunt, while He Yuchu immediately dashed over and hugged He Chen’s leg.
"Daddy, I want a hug too!"
Looking down at the adorable little one eagerly reaching out her arms for a hug, He Chen couldn’t possibly refuse.
He wholeheartedly obliged.
After easily picking up his little daughter, Ye Manman held He Yanzi’s hand and followed beside He Chen. The family of four left the yard, carrying the bag of paper money and incense.
He Yanzi curiously glanced around at the villagers who seemed equally curious about them, then looked up at Ye Manman.
"Mom, where are we going?"
Ye Manman gently patted his head, her gaze extremely tender.
"We’re going to see Grandma and Grandpa. You two should talk to them a lot later, okay?"
Not understanding why, He Yanzi nodded, and He Yuchu, not to be outdone, piped up boldly in her childish voice.
"Grandma and Grandpa will definitely like me. I’m the cutest little kid!"
He Chen chuckled softly, amused by his daughter’s cuteness.
"Yes, Grandpa and Grandma adore Tiantian, they’ve always wanted to meet her."
Upon hearing this, He Yanzi felt a bit upset.
"Does Grandma and Grandpa not like me? I’m well-behaved too."
He Chen laughed, and Ye Manman also laughed.
"Silly child, you’re both Grandpa and Grandma’s good grandchildren. Of course, they love you. So you must respect them, burn more paper money for them, and sincerely burn incense. Kneel down and tell them about yourselves, then they’ll love you even more. Understand?"
Though the two little ones didn’t quite grasp the concept of burning paper money and incense, they listened to their mom.
In unison, they nodded, "Got it~"
The weather has been nice recently, not too hot nor too cold, just dry with a breeze.
They weaved their way around, heading into the fields and directly reaching the pair of gravestones side by side in the farm.
He Chen put his daughter down, and He Yuchu looked up at him with a face full of confusion.
"Daddy, where’s Grandma and Grandpa?"
He Yanzi seemed to understand a little.
He looked at the two simple gravestones with barely legible inscriptions, glanced at Ye Manman.
"Mom, are Grandma and Grandpa in the ground?"
Upon hearing this, He Yuchu turned her head to look, earnestly observing the earth.
The two children were still very young and had never seen gravestones, unable to fully grasp the meaning of death.
But He Yanzi was starting to understand.
After Ye Manman nodded with a smile, explaining that Grandma and Grandpa had passed away and this was where they could be seen, He Yanzi wholeheartedly dropped to his knees and sincerely kowtowed three times to the gravestones.
"Grandma and Grandpa, I’m He Yanzi, your grandson."
He didn’t know what to say, but his actions were beyond He Chen and Ye Manman’s expectations.
Ye Manman took out a cloth she had prepared earlier to spread on the ground, but seeing her son’s pants already dirty from his knees, she put the cloth back in her pocket.
Though He Yuchu didn’t quite understand, she followed her brother’s lead, kneeling down clumsily to kowtow three times.
"Grandma and Grandpa, I’m He Yuchu, your granddaughter. I’m very good!"
Ye Manman didn’t expect the little ones to be so sincere and proactive, making her feel a bit embarrassed.
She was about to kneel and kowtow like the children when He Chen stopped her, took the cloth from her pocket, placed it down, and allowed her to proceed.
Seeing the two little ones gaze wide-eyed at their dirty trousers, then at their mom kneeling on the clean, soft cloth, they turned to their dad.
"Daddy is biased!"
"Daddy only likes mom, doesn’t like us. Grandma and Grandpa can see, they’ll surely say you’re biased!"
He Chen wasn’t at all bothered by the little ones’ accusations; he kept his gaze on Ye Manman, watching her sincerely kneel, burn incense, kowtow at his parents’ grave, and patiently burn paper money. Emotions surged within him, overwhelming him with unspeakable happiness and satisfaction.
"Dad, Mom, I’ve brought Manman and the kids to see you."
He helped Ye Manman up, then knelt at the gravestones himself, kowtowing three times.
The four of them crouched at the gravestones, burning paper money while chatting, talking about their love story, and how obedient and sensible the children were.
He Yanzi and He Yuchu were exceptionally happy, every time their parents mentioned them, they enthusiastically ran over, placing paper money in the basin while boasting.
Later, He Yuchu even gleefully showed her grandparents a clumsy, awkward dance, making everyone burst into laughter.
Perhaps the wind really was strong today, or maybe He Chen’s parents truly heard everything. The paper money burned rapidly, and the incense they lit burned swiftly.
When the family of four left, feeling joyful and harmonious, the reddish incense was exactly at its final end...
