Chapter 305: Chapter 301: The Grand Finale (Part 1, Double-Length)

If he could continue to live with the goal of conquering leukemia, she felt that was quite good.

It’s certainly better than directly negating his efforts of more than ten years and continuing to destroy his goals for the next few decades.

Perhaps a miracle might really happen?

Maybe he could really research some significant findings?

Regardless, he has already made efforts towards this and is determined to dedicate his life to it. Whatever results may come in the future will be something that benefits humanity.

Ye Manman never thought she would lose an old friend so quickly.

After helping Mrs. Cheng handle everything and sending her off on a bus back to the small town, Ye Manman also wanted to go back and take a look.

She didn’t care about Ye Guoqiang, a father who had no value in her life, nor intended to recognize him, nor give him another chance to potentially harm Liu Rulan. But she still had friends in the small town, and He Chen’s parents’ graves were also back in their hometown.

Every year during Qingming, He Chen would take the time to go back to the village. Although it took a long time, and there was no one in the village worth his attention, he would return to pay respects to his parents and sit by their graves to talk about his stories with Ye Manman.

Occasionally, someone would see him, but most of the time he would go under cover of darkness to burn incense. Back home, he rarely cooked, simply cleaning the dust and insects and then hurrying back to Jing City.

Ye Manman actually thought about going back with him, but the two of them were too busy.

He Chen only wanted to pay his respects quickly and then return, as he was worried Ye Manman wouldn’t endure the constant traveling. Someone had to stay home to watch the kids, so He Chen always went back alone.

But this time, Ye Manman arranged for a time when both of them had a break to go back to the village to stay a few days.

He Chen thought about how she hadn’t been back for many years and he also missed the old house where they lived right after getting married.

Although the house was quite old now, he cleaned it every year, so staying there wasn’t a problem.

So they chose a sunny day, packed a bunch of simple travel essentials, and drove back with their two kids.

By this time, there were already more people driving small cars than in previous years, but still very few compared to modern times. The best part was there was no traffic, the air was fresh, and sitting in the car with the window open was cool and refreshing.

He Yanzi and He Yuchu had never been on such a long trip, nor seen a real countryside, so they were very excited and eager to see the place where their parents used to live.

Even though Ye Manman and He Chen kept taking turns telling them how tough and old the countryside houses were, they remained enthusiastic.

However, the small town’s development was absolutely no match for Jing City’s.

Driving back from the flat roads of Jing City and not even reaching the village yet, the roads were already unbearably bumpy.

He Yuchu fell asleep on the way but was abruptly awakened by the bumps on the road leading to the village.

When she woke up and looked outside the window, she found barren land everywhere, no familiar buildings or flat roads, no busy boulevards, just rugged dirt roads and somewhat intimidating mountains in the distance.

She shrank closer to He Yanzi in fright.

"Brother, are we going to be sold?"

He Yuchu’s sweet and soft voice perfectly inherited from Ye Manman, and since she was so young, it sounded even more endearing.

He Yanzi was actually on the verge of being jolted into vomiting.

But as a brother, he couldn’t afford to lose face in front of his sister.

So he forcibly held back his urge to puke, gently patting He Yuchu’s back.

"No, this is mom and dad’s old home, we are almost there."

Ye Manman could hear from the front seat and wanted to laugh as well.

"What’s wrong, afraid mom doesn’t want you anymore? Well, you better behave and not cry, I only want kids who don’t cry too ugly."

She said it deliberately like that, and sure enough, easily calmed He Yuchu.

He Yuchu wiped away a tear that was about to fall from her eye and gave a delicate hum.

"Hmph, I’m not ugly! Brother says I’m the prettiest girl."

Ye Manman turned her head and raised an eyebrow, looking at He Yanzi.

"Oh? Really? Yanzi, didn’t you always say that mom is the most beautiful person in the world? Changed your mind so quickly?"
