Chapter 463: Aunt Sakura

"Go ahead, Tamar-chan! Ask me anything you wish to know," Sakura nodded, adjusting in her seat with her legs folding elegantly beneath her, her expression open and welcoming. "There are no stupid questions here, only opportunities to learn."

"Thank you very much. I wanted to know: are our sides really friends now, or...?" Tamar nervously asked, her fingers fidgeting with the edge of her dress as she spoke. "I mean, some Amazons followed Princess Lily back to Shishi-no-su when she departed... Does that make us official allies? Or is it more complicated than that?"

"Ah, yes," Elara interjected, a faint warmth creeping into her tone as she spoke. "Elowen and a few of our most trusted sisters did follow Princess Lily when the tengu asked to be set free from our lands. They departed as emissaries of goodwill, traveling to Shishi-no-su for diplomatic purposes, where they shall learn various skills and hand work there. Some beastkin will also be coming here for the same reason, an exchange of knowledge and culture that benefits both our people equally. So..."

Elara paused, her gaze drifting before it inevitably settled on Sakura, and a noticeable blush bloomed across her cheeks.

The color spread from her cheekbones to the tips of her ears, betraying emotions she would have preferred to keep hidden beneath her usual composed exterior.

She cleared her throat delicately before continuing, her voice softening to something vulnerable.

"We... definitely are friends now. That is not merely a political statement, but a personal truth I have come to accept."

Before Elara could even finish exhaling the last syllable, Sakura’s arms were already wrapped around her head with the enthusiasm of a child who had just received the most wonderful gift imaginable.

The Beast Queen pressed Elara’s face into her chest with complete disregard for the Amazon queen’s dignity, her fox ears twitching with unrestrained joy and her tail wagging behind her in a manner that seemed utterly incongruous with her ancient age and formidable power.

[Ah, it’s wagging like a dog’s!] [Tamar]

"Argh! You’re so darn cute, Elara-chan!!" Sakura cooed, squeezing the struggling queen tighter as Elara squirmed and sighed exhaustedly, her muffled protests lost against Sakura’s robes. "And also—shimai desu wa yo! We are sisters, now and forever, got it? That is not a suggestion, nor is it up for negotiation!"

Sakura finally released her grip, though her hands remained on Elara’s shoulders as she pivoted to face Tamar with a warmth that seemed to radiate from her very being.

The Beast Queen’s amber eyes softened, and her smile carried a sincerity that cut through all the years of misunderstanding that had once existed between their peoples.

"I did do some unsatisfactory things to you folks," Sakura admitted, her voice dropping to something quieter, more contemplative, as the weight of her past actions settled briefly upon her features. "And I did harbor dangerous ideas as well, thoughts that I am not proud of and actions that I cannot undo. I allowed fear and greed to cloud my judgment, and I caused pain where I should have offered understanding.

"I am truly sorry for all of the drama. But Elara has accepted me, and that acceptance means more than any treaty or alliance ever could. So call me Aunty now, you hear? That is not a request, but a command from your new family member!"

Tamar’s eyes widened like twin moons, her dark cheeks flushing with embarrassment and barely concealed delight at being so directly included in this moment of reconciliation.

She had grown up hearing stories of great and powerful rulers, including the Beast Queen.

Tales that painted Sakura as a fearsome and capricious figure, a ruler to be respected and feared in equal measure.

To see her now, warm and embracing, offering familial bonds with such genuine affection, it felt almost surreal, like stepping into a legend and finding it far more human than any story had ever suggested.

The Amazon princess’s lips parted, then closed, then parted again as she struggled to find her voice.

Finally, with the hesitation of someone testing unfamiliar waters, she muttered softly, "A... Aunt Sakura..."

The words hung in the air like the first notes of a song, tentative but beautiful.

But Elara felt her skin crawl instantly, her entire body shuddering with exasperation that she made no effort to hide.

Her head snapped toward Tamar with the speed of a striking serpent, her eyes wide with betrayal.

"Wai— Not immediately, Tamar!" Elara protested, her voice rising an octave. "It’s like you are enjoying this! Like you have been waiting for an excuse to call her that all along! You are supposed to be on my side in these matters!"

"Ehhhh? Let her be!" Sakura whined dramatically, throwing her full weight onto Elara’s shoulder and forcing the Amazon queen to brace herself against the unexpected burden. Her fox ears drooped with theatrical sorrow, though her eyes sparkled with mischief. "Let her call me Aunty!"

As the two queens continued their playful squabbling, Sakura’s expression shifted to something more contemplative, her gaze drifting toward the window as if she could see beyond the walls of the palace and across the vast distances that separated Verdant Spire from her homeland.

"Silver Shadow must have long since met your women and taken them under her wings," Sakura mused, her voice sounding with confidence. "They’re in safe hands, I assure you. Kurosawa Ren as well is not merely a skilled warrior and strategist, but also a patient teacher who understands the value of cross-cultural exchange."

Sakura paused, tilting her head slightly as if listening to some distant whisper only she could hear. "I do wonder why both sides haven’t been reporting in, though. It has been several days since their departure, and normally I would have received at least a telepathic message."

"Maybe they’re just enjoying themselves so much, then," Violette added, her dark violet eyes fixated on the entrance where an Amazon servant had just appeared with another tray that groaned under the weight of freshly roasted meats.
