Chapter 790: I have a new beastworld Novel Out Guys! Chapter 791: And the first thing you say when you see them awake is that they look like demons?

Osiris knew he had said the wrong thing the moment Isabella’s face changed.

It was not even a loud change. She did not scream at him immediately. She did not throw anything. She did not even sit up. Her body was still too weak for that, and she was still wrapped in thick furs with the three tiny newborns moving clumsily near her side. But her eyes, which had been soft and bright only a breath ago, suddenly cooled.

Cyrus felt it too.

His hand, which had been hovering near Liora’s tiny horned head, stopped in midair. His pink eyes lifted slowly toward Osiris, and the warmth that had been on his face while watching the babies disappeared so completely that Osiris almost took one step back.

Almost.

He did not, because pride was still pride, and Osiris had a lot of it.

But even he knew he had stepped into something dangerous.

"What?" Osiris asked, though his voice was much smaller than usual. "I did not say they were ugly."

Isabella’s eyes narrowed.

That was worse.

Osiris quickly looked at the babies again. Riven was still sleeping near Isabella’s fingers, Taren was trying to move over a fold in the fur with great effort, and Liora had her tiny mouth around Isabella’s thumb, sucking like the whole world depended on it. All three had small red tails, soft little horns, and newly opened eyes that still looked hazy and unfocused.

They did look strange.

Very strange.

But they were Isabella’s babies.

And Osiris, who apparently wanted to live dangerously after surviving a whole attack, had called them demons in front of their mother.

Cyrus’s voice came out low. "Say it again."

Osiris looked at him. "No."

"Good."

Isabella did not look away from Osiris. "They are newborns."

"I know."

"They came out of my body a few hours ago."

"I know."

"I suffered almost two days to give birth to them."

Osiris swallowed. "I also know that."

"And the first thing you say when you see them awake is that they look like demons?"

Osiris opened his mouth, then closed it again.

For once, there was no immediate answer.

That alone made Isabella even angrier because now he wanted to learn wisdom after already saying nonsense.

Cyrus shifted closer to the babies. It was not obvious at first, but Isabella saw it. His body moved between Osiris and the children just a little, like a snake coiling near its young. The babies did not know what was happening. They were far too small. But Cyrus knew, and whether Osiris meant harm or not, Cyrus’s instincts did not care.

Osiris lifted both hands. "I did not mean it badly."

Isabella gave him a look.

He hurried to explain. "I mean, demons can be strong. Powerful. Terrifying. People run from them. That is not bad."

"Osiris."

"Right. I should stop."

"Yes."

He truly tried to stop.

He lasted one breath.

Then he looked at Liora again and muttered, "But the little girl really does look like she would judge everyone."

Isabella’s mouth opened.

Cyrus closed his eyes.

Osiris immediately pointed at Liora as if she would defend him. "Look at her. She is tiny, but she has that face."

Isabella looked down before she could stop herself.

Liora had released her thumb and was lying still with her tiny head lifted slightly. Her eyes were half open. She could not even focus properly yet, but somehow her small face really did look unusually calm. Too calm. Like a newborn who had entered the world, heard everyone’s noise, and already decided most of them were disappointing.

Isabella tried not to smile.

She failed a little.

Osiris saw it at once and gained courage again. "See?"

"Do not feel safe," Isabella warned.

Osiris wisely lowered his hand.

Cyrus let out a slow breath, then picked up a soft cloth and wiped the little bit of moisture near Liora’s mouth. His movements were so careful that Isabella’s anger softened without permission. The way Cyrus touched the babies made the whole room feel warmer. His fingers were large compared to their tiny bodies, so he moved with such patience that even his breathing seemed softer around them.

Riven woke first.

The little boy opened his eyes halfway and gave a tiny displeased sound, as if he had already decided that being awake was unnecessary. His red tail curled weakly, then uncurled, and his small horned head turned toward Cyrus’s hand.

Cyrus lowered his finger near him.

Riven’s tiny mouth opened.

Then he bit him.

It was not a real bite. He barely had the strength for it. But his little mouth closed around Cyrus’s finger with all the seriousness a newborn snake baby could manage.

Isabella stared.

Cyrus froze for one second.

Then his whole face softened.

"He is hungry again?" Isabella asked, already tired just thinking about it.

Cyrus smiled faintly. "No. He is testing."

"Testing what?"

"His mouth."

Isabella looked at Riven, who was still holding Cyrus’s finger like he had captured prey. "So he woke up and chose violence."

Cyrus looked at his son with proud tenderness. "He has instinct."

"He has audacity."

Osiris leaned closer, then stopped when Cyrus looked at him. "I was only looking."

"Look from there," Cyrus said.

Osiris looked offended, but he stayed back.

Taren, as if unwilling to let his brother be the only one receiving attention, made a soft complaining sound. He was still stuck against the fold in the fur. His small tail moved clumsily, but he did not seem to understand how to get over it. Every attempt made him slide back slightly, and each failure made his tiny mouth open with a sound that was not quite a cry, but definitely carried anger.

Isabella stared at him. "That one is definitely dramatic."

Cyrus gently picked Taren up and placed him closer to Isabella’s hand.

Taren immediately settled as if that had been his plan all along.

Isabella narrowed her eyes. "He wanted attention."

Cyrus rubbed the back of Taren’s tiny head with one finger. "He is small."

"So small people cannot be manipulative?"

Cyrus looked at her. "He was born today."

"And he has already learned."

Osiris nodded. "He gets that from you."

Isabella slowly turned to him.

Osiris looked away. "I mean that as praise."

Liora moved again.
