Chapter 789: Chapter 790: She’s so tiny

In fact, she looked like a small angry string with horns. Her little mouth opened slightly, and Isabella could barely see anything there.

No grown fangs.

No sharp threat.

Just a tiny baby mouth.

Isabella’s fear softened before it could fully grow.

"Oh," she whispered.

Liora reached her hand.

Or rather, reached the side of her palm with great effort.

She bumped into Isabella’s fingers first, then seemed to pause as if she had discovered something important. Her tiny mouth opened, and before Isabella could react, she latched onto Isabella’s thumb and started sucking.

Isabella froze.

Cyrus also froze, but only for a moment before his face melted completely.

Isabella looked down at the tiny girl sucking on her thumb, and something warm spread through her chest so quickly that it almost hurt.

She had been scared for one second.

Now she only wanted to cry.

"She’s so tiny," Isabella whispered.

Liora’s little tail moved once.

Isabella let out a soft laugh, and it came out weak because her body still had no strength, but it was real. "You scared me for nothing. Look at you. You don’t even know where you’re going."

Cyrus leaned closer and used one finger to very gently stroke the back of Liora’s tiny head. The little girl kept sucking Isabella’s thumb and ignored him completely.

"She knows you," Cyrus said.

Isabella looked at him. "She knows food."

"She knows her mother."

"That too."

Her heart felt so full that she could not even argue properly.

Then Riven woke up.

He moved first by lifting his head a little, then dropping it down again because apparently even he realized being born was tiring. After a few breaths, he started moving too, slow and clumsy, his red tail curling and uncurling as he tried to get closer to Isabella’s warmth.

Taren noticed because his brother moved against him.

He also woke.

The second boy made a tiny sound that was not a cry but still sounded deeply unhappy. Then he dragged himself forward with the kind of determination Isabella recognized instantly.

"Oh no," Isabella said.

Cyrus looked amused. "What?"

"That one is already dramatic."

Taren moved a little, stopped, then made another complaining sound.

Isabella looked at him with tired disbelief. "You see? He is complaining."

Cyrus picked him up very carefully and placed him closer to Isabella’s side. "He wants you."

"He tortured me."

"He is small."

"That does not erase the crime."

Cyrus lowered his head, but Isabella could see he was smiling.

Riven finally reached her other hand and pressed his tiny head against her fingers. His eyes were open now too, darker than she expected, though still cloudy in that newborn way. When Isabella touched his little horn, he stilled and leaned into it.

That finished her.

It truly finished her.

Her face softened so much that even Cyrus went quiet watching her.

"They look cuter now," she whispered.

"They were cute before."

Isabella gave him a tired look. "Cyrus."

He looked at her innocently.

She narrowed her eyes. "Don’t lie to me. I almost died bringing them here. I am allowed to be honest."

His mouth moved again. "They were alive before. That made them beautiful."

Isabella paused.

That answer was so Cyrus that she could not even argue with it.

So she only sighed and looked back at the three babies near her hands. Liora was still sucking her thumb like this was the most important thing in the world. Riven had settled against her fingers. Taren kept trying to climb over the fold in the fur and failing, then getting angry about it.

They were strange.

They were horned.

They were venomous.

They were little snake babies.

And somehow, they were hers.

Isabella felt tears rise again and immediately became annoyed with herself. "Why am I crying again? I already cried enough."

Cyrus touched her cheek softly. "You are tired."

"I am always tired now."

"You gave birth only a few hours ago."

"And they already shed."

"That is normal for them."

"For them," Isabella repeated, still staring. "Do they also start speaking tomorrow?"

"No."

"Walking?"

"They do not have legs yet."

She looked at him. "Yet?"

Cyrus became quiet.

Isabella stared harder. "Cyrus."

He cleared his throat softly. "Their forms will change as they grow."

"Oh my God, i totally forgot about that."

"You can rest first before thinking about that."

"How can I rest after hearing yet?"

Cyrus gently rubbed the side of her face with his thumb. "Because I will explain everything later."

"You better."

"I will."

Isabella looked back at the babies again. The fear was gone now. In its place was something soft, warm, and a little painful. She wanted to hold all three of them, but her arms were still weak, and she was afraid of doing it wrongly. Cyrus seemed to understand because he helped her shift just enough so the babies could stay close without pressing on her sore body.

The room became very quiet.

For a short while, it was only them.

Cyrus sat beside her, watching the babies with that almost sacred softness in his eyes. Isabella lay wrapped in warm furs, her body tired and aching, but her fingers stayed near the three tiny lives she had brought into the world. The fire burned low. Outside the room, the village was cleaning up after a bloody night, but here, for a few breaths, everything felt small and gentle.

Then the door opened.

Osiris stepped in.

He looked tired from the battle, though he had washed most of the blood and smoke from himself. His fiery blond hair was still messy, and there were faint burn marks near his arms. He clearly had not come in expecting anything unusual. He probably thought he would see the same three crying newborns from earlier.

Instead, he saw three tiny red snake babies with open eyes, soft horns, and fresh little tails moving against the fur near Isabella.

Osiris stopped.

He frowned.

Then he said, "Whoa. They look like demons."

The room went still.

Isabella froze.

Her mood changed.
