Chapter 1006: Chapter 1006: Understand The Nature Of Runes
The moment those words of concession fell, Bai Xifeng finally relaxed her tense stance and let out a long, slow breath of relief. All the glowing runes scattered across the training field slowly dimmed one after another, their brilliant golden light gradually fading back into the soaked earth below. The flowing water that had once surged violently across the battlefield subsided, calming into a series of shallow puddles, while the spiritual rain disappeared as suddenly as it had arrived.
"Hmm... I feel like I am finally beginning to truly understand the nature of runes." Bai Xifeng said softly, looking down at her ink-stained fingers.
"You are becoming more terrifying every single day." Ning Shoukai muttered, sitting up weakly on the damp ground. He looked completely traumatised by the entire experience, his hair plastered to his forehead.
Xie Lanying silently nodded her head in absolute agreement with his words, sheathing her sword with a soft click.
Meanwhile, Ji Yuan calmly drank his tea while observing the muddy aftermath of the battle from the comfort of the gazebo. Although his expression remained entirely indifferent as always, there was a faint yet undeniable trace of deep approval hidden within his dark eyes.
The chaotic battle had ultimately ended with Bai Xifengβs absolute victory.
Afterwards, the three of them took a short break on the grass to recover their thoroughly exhausted spiritual energy. Bai Xifeng casually tossed several healing pills and recovery elixirs toward Ning Shoukai and Xie Lanying. Both of them caught the porcelain bottles immediately and, without even waiting for a word of instruction, swallowed the medicine without hesitation. Almost instantly, a warm wave of spiritual energy began gradually returning to their exhausted bodies.
"Did either of you gain anything from this fight?" Ji Yuan suddenly asked, breaking the silence with his calm voice.
"Yeah. Fighting against a skilled Inscriber is terrifying. They can practically make nature itself fight on their behalf." Ning Shoukai stated honestly, rubbing his sore, bruised shoulder.
"You also need to be extremely careful when engaging an Inscriber." Xie Lanying added thoughtfully, looking over at the fading runic marks on the ground. "They plan several steps ahead before the battle even properly begins. You are walking into a trap before you even draw your weapon."
Bai Xifeng blinked slightly after hearing their high evaluation of her skills. For some reason, hearing those words from her peers made her feel unexpectedly satisfied.
....
The next day, Bai Xifeng headed toward the Armament Master Division early in the morning. Zhou Yaoting had sent a runner to inform her shortly after Ning Shoukai and Xie Lanying left the Inscriber Division the previous day. The message stated that the experts from the Armament Master Guild would arrive today to dismantle the massive haul of Stone-Clad Wolves.
Thus, Bai Xifeng leisurely made her way through the academy grounds toward the Armament Master Division. After showing the special badge she had received previously, the guards immediately allowed her to enter the restricted area without issue. Zhou Yaoting had already left instructions for her to head toward the exact same grand hall where they had met before.
As she walked through the large stone corridors, Bai Xifeng yawned lazily while rubbing the corner of her eyes. She had stayed up extremely late the previous night studying complex rune formations under her oil lamp, causing her to feel rather sleepy and disconnected now. Because of her distraction, she rounded a corner sharply and almost collided directly with someone.
"You! Where are your eyes?" An irritated, sharp voice immediately scolded.
Bai Xifeng lifted her head, blinking away her sleepiness, and saw two young male students standing in front of her. However, the moment the two men clearly saw her face and recognized her features, both of them froze completely, the anger vanishing from their faces as they found themselves unable to utter another word.
Bai Xifeng did not think much about their strange, stunned reaction at all.
"I apologize." Bai Xifeng said politely, bowing her head slightly before immediately stepping aside to let them pass.
After that, she continued walking away without another glance, leaving the two stunned young men standing there silently in the hallway.
"Junior Sister Bai is supposedly rude and arrogant according to the rumours, but..." One of them muttered awkwardly, scratching his head.
"Yeah..." The other replied blankly, staring at her retreating back. "She even apologised first, even though we were the ones walking straight toward her without looking."
Naturally, Bai Xifeng remained completely unaware of the subtle shift in her reputation. A few moments later, she finally arrived at the heavy double doors of the grand hall.
The moment she stepped inside, she immediately noticed several unfamiliar faces moving among the usual academy crowd. Many of them wore prestigious robes belonging to the external Armament Master Guild.
Bai Xifeng walked directly toward the familiar figure of Zhou Yaoting.
"Teacher Zhou, are these the people who will be dismantling the beasts today?" Bai Xifeng asked curiously, glancing at the various tools they carried.
"Yes." Zhou Yaoting nodded calmly, offering her a faint smile.
"Then, should I take out the Stone-Clad Wolves now?" Bai Xifeng asked again, gesturing to the open space in the centre of the room.
"Yes, please do." Zhou Yaoting replied.
Thus, Bai Xifeng tapped her storage rune, releasing the containment seal on the Stone-Clad Wolves. With a small, fluid flick of her spiritual energy, hundreds of massive, heavy beast corpses instantly materialised, thudding loudly onto the stone floor throughout the spacious hall.
The entire hall immediately fell dead silent.
The visitors from the Armament Master Guild stared blankly, their mouths slightly agape at the enormous mountain of Stone-Clad Wolves completely filling the area.
