Chapter 803: The fifth day of the development trial (part 15)

Listening to Aster’s last words and realizing that while originally only the Mountain Amber family’s reputation would take a blow, thanks to his brother’s involvement in the matter, now the Ocean Aquamarine will be included in such a shameful matter, Wade glared at Albert clearly sending him a message "Shut up".

"Still, if it’s only a symbolic payment, then you could just choose someone else!", exclaimed one of the elders from the Mountain Amber family noticing that Wade had relaxed his stance against Aster’s petition.

"Well, I might be up to accepting a representative from one of the three big forces instead, however I can’t guarantee their safety and wellbeing unlike with Fawn, after all most of you are guys and my side is mostly composed of girls, were you to have even the slightest "funny" ideas you’ll be skinned alive by them, as for the female representatives they hate you even more, I don’t mind it though, just know that the one chosen will most likely die", casually said Aster.

’He is right damn it, the only from our side whose safety can be guaranteed on their side is Fawn, even if the Sun Diamond princess is close to that womanizer, the Purple Lightning princess wouldn’t allow him to do anything to Fawn and the other members of their group have nothing against her either’, thought Wade.

Wade might hate Valentina to his core, but the purple eyed girl’s upright and responsible reputation precedes her, so even if in Wade’s mind Aster can run rampant and flirt with the members of the Myriad Occupation sect, he is sure she wouldn’t allow him to do as he pleases to them.

In fact, in Wade’s mind, this whole symbolic payment thing must be Valentina’s doing, she must be trying to poach a princess to side with the faction to which her family belongs within the Fey.

Unfortunately, the morale on their side was already bad and now that the possibility of ending this battle without any deaths had appeared, if Wade didn’t make use of it, besides the big three which are allied until the end, others would rebel against his leadership, after all no one wanted to die.

"If you make an oath stating that you won’t lay a finger on little Fawn, then we’ll accept the deal", said Wade, Bradley seemed to want to say something but even the representative from the Mountain Amber family gritted his teeth and shook his head.

Realistically they had nothing to lose here besides reputation of course, Fawn won’t be mistreated under those conditions and they get to end this fight which would have costed them at least twenty lives and another twenty severely wounded, in exchange of losing the help of a single person.

To Wade’s surprise Aster casually nodded.

"Sure, I wasn’t planning on forcing her to do anything anyway, my authority over her will only apply up to working to earn her keep and keeping quiet about what goes on my side, not to mention that she’ll be safer on my camp considering how you guys are about to bite the dust over such a simple trial", said Aster, which once again provoked a strong reaction from some among Wade’s group.

"That’s easy to say when you have more than two hundred "meat shields" at your disposition!", exclaimed the male representative from the Pleasure Palace, though nothing happened, he could see the expectation in the eyes of let alone the female disciples but even the female elders from his sect at the possibility of being sent to Aster’s side and he of course was furious due to that.

"Yeah, if our group was as large as yours, then we wouldn’t have had any trouble with these damn animals", added an elder from the Bayer family.

In their minds, the trial faced by Aster’s side and theirs should be the same, little did they know that they had it way easier, both because the blue flaming board had evaluated them to be weaker so the trials it had presented to them were of a lower grade which also meant that their rewards were the same and more importantly, the other supervisors didn’t pay them any attention.

In other words, that mainly reptile army while in essence presented Wade’s group with the same trial as the one Aster’s side faced, namely a siege battle, its difficulty was adjusted to fit their level, the blue flaming board is fair with the participants under its supervision after all.

So, most of the troubles Wade’s side was facing were actually caused by themselves, Aster knew it from the very moment he looked at how they were doing on their end, but of course why would he give away such information to them, it was better to let those guys believe they had an "unfair advantage".

"It’s your own fault for sucking at the gate opening event, next time bring decent middle Transcending realms and below participants", mockingly said Aster, which made those two see red.

"Enough, give us a moment to discuss things on our end", said Wade to which Aster nodded before the flaming screen which was allowing him to contact them disappeared.

The very second that happened, the big Komodo dragon which had remained still and had made its subordinates retreat, became fierce once again.

"Shaaaa!", obviously it was wary of the blue flaming board, so it didn’t continue advancing but now that it was gone, the fight must continue.

"Little Fawn, what do you think, I don’t want to force you but...", Wade who approached Fawn kept a gentle and caring exterior, but obviously this decision was already taken, after all they didn’t have a united front, the leader could be changed if more than half of the group members wanted to, the mountain amber, ocean aquamarine and supreme elemental sects still managed to hold the final decision as of current, but if the Fey families refused Aster’s offer and the supreme elemental sect representative promoted himself as the new leader and gained the support of all the other people with the promise of securing the end of this fight, Fawn will still be handed over.

"Since my safety will be guaranteed it, I don’t mind it, however in exchange you must give status on par with mine to uncle Otto while I’m not here and promise to treat my subordinates fairly", said the brown-haired potential princess, to which no one could object as she wasn’t even asking for preferential treatment, her subordinates will continue to contribute to the group, she simply wanted for them to not be mistreated in her absence.

"I promise it on the name of the Ocean Aquamarine family", said Wade to then add in a much lower voice that only Fawn could hear.

"Be careful and don’t fall for the "sweet words" of that bastard and don’t listen to what the Purple Lightning princess will say about us either", Fawn slightly nodded and then Wade looked upwards.

"We are ready on our side", naturally that was directed to the blue flaming board, Aster’s projection appeared once again and after both parties made their oaths, which unlike the verbal promise made by Wade, were made with the heavens as their witnesses since Wade and the others didn’t know that the heaven’s influence in this place was reduced to be almost insignificant, the deal was completed.

Seeing the hatred-filled eyes of Bradley and the other members of the Mountain Amber family, Aster smirked to then say.

"Don’t glare at me like that, who knows, I might "forget" about this whole ordeal, for the right price of course", Aster’s intentions were clear, he was planning to extort hush money from the Mountain Amber family and the worst part of it, is that they had no option but to pay, after all, the representative wouldn’t dare to inform about him not standing up against handing over Fawn to Aster, in front of Fawn’s half-brother which has a similar status as Valentina in the Mountain Amber family.

Bradley would be fine as he is a direct descendant from a main branch, though he is not an heir, his status doesn’t lose when compared to heir candidates and his job was only to be "friendly" with Fawn, but the representative doesn’t have such a solid background, so if anything were to happen to Fawn it will be his head the one that would roll.

"The deal has been completed, take those animals with you and leave", said Wade not wanting to see Aster’s face nor listen to his voice more than what it was strictly needed.

Aster shrugged, both Fawn and the animals were enveloped in a layer of dim blue light to then disappear from this place, only then did Wade and the others let out a sigh of relief.

"Clean up all this mess, we can’t have something like this happen ever again, after some rest start cutting and moving logs, our first priority is building a solid and tall defensive wall!", ordered Wade.

...

Back to the side of the Myriad Occupation sect, inside of the camp, a single wisp of blue flames suddenly lit up and extinguished, leaving a Fawn who was immediately struck with surprise as she looked at the huge and incredibly well protected camp that surrounded her.

’Are those... horses?’, thought the brown-haired princess to then against what she expected noticed that the only one here to welcome her was Agnes.

"You can stay here until Aster and the others come back into the camp or take a peek by yourself, besides the large log cabin at the back you are free to wander around and use the other facilities", said the Sun Diamond princess to then turn around in order to leave, after all she wasn’t in charge of guarding the camp and wanted to fight alongside Valentina, but accepted to be here to welcome Fawn since as a fellow Fey princess, she’ll probably feel more at ease if that was the case.

As to why she was only banned from going to the main log cabin, that’s because it is both the storage and the residence of Aster’s group and the highest ranked leading figures of the sect as well.

"Can I tag along instead... I’ll be responsible for my own life in the battlefield", said Fawn which earned her a gaze of interest from Agnes, unlike Valentina who clearly had the interest of tending a hand to Fawn, Agnes had a much more neutral attitude towards her, that’s because Valentina’s personality is that of a responsible older sister, but Agnes is maybe not to the extreme like Aster’s Fey godmother according to Lilia, but still on the side of indifference besides things in which she is interested, like physical training, the sword and lately... Aster.

"Hoh, fine you can come, here a spear for you", said the Sun Diamond princess as she handed one of the spears, she had on her back to Fawn who was taken aback when she noticed that the spearhead which was covered in bandages by the way, was actually made out of steel.

’They have metal weapons and in a quantity high enough to casually hand one over to me!’, inwardly exclaimed Fawn, their group was lucky enough to find some swamp iron ore and Wade bought a furnace and a forge to try and process it, but they completely wasted the ore, it’s not like they were hopeless since there were a few among their group that worked as spirit blacksmiths, however they were obviously not used to mortal blacksmithing so they needed to practice and that meant using time and iron which they lacked, therefore they went with bone weapons instead.

"Thanks", with a single word, the brown-haired princess thanked Agnes and both of them rushed towards the entrance of the camp, the girls guarding the gate opened it at Agnes’s petition allowing those two to go outside, where Fawn was met with a sight she will probably never forget for the rest of her life, a young blond girl with blue eyes riding on top of that big Komodo dragon which seemed anxious to drink the blood and eat the flesh of the members of her previous group, while all the other reptiles were bowing towards a pretty white snake.

To understand what was going on we must go back in time to a few minutes ago, both Fawn and the animal army on Wade’s side disappeared at the same time, however, the brown-haired princess was transferred through the "long route" by the blue flaming board at Aster’s petition of course, so she arrived five minutes after the animal army.

The blue flaming board didn’t expect things to go the way they did though, when the mainly monitor lizard composed army appeared, the blue flaming board fairly placed them at the same distance at which they were from reaching Wade’s camp, with the exception that they didn’t appear right outside of the walls, reaching a middle point between Aster’s side and the animal’s army.

"Shaaa!", the Komodo dragon king only knew that he still had those two-legged creatures as enemies, so the moment he appeared the order to charge was given, but then before both sides started clashing, or more accurately before the girls of the sect started killing the monitor lizards, Kana’s mellow voice interrupted the fight.

"Big brother, none of them are bad and you guys we are not like the other humans you have met before!", in a rush the little girl raised her voice trying to avoid a fight between two sides that actually didn’t have a reason to fight.

Naturally, while the Komodo dragon king was surprised and didn’t feel malice coming from that small two-legged creature, he wasn’t going to be convinced just with a few words so he didn’t halt his charge.

And while that normally would have led to Aster not telling the girls of the sect to hold back, given that the recently arrived enemy army was burning with determination of killing them even at the cost of their lives, very much unlike the bear’s army, they were mostly a reptile composed army and so they were a horrible match up against the Myriad Occupation sect, on par with poisonous and venomous animals, though for a different girl in question.

"Hissss!", Aster didn’t need to speak, he simply gazed at the little wyrm who directly let out her lineage pressure, which made all the reptile race animals freeze on the spot, though it was spread to affect more than three hundred targets which meant Espi couldn’t cause them direct harm unlike what happened with the desert snakes, she could still force them to halt.

"Shaaa!", surprisingly, the Komodo dragon king actually endured the impact of the little wyrm’s pressure and continued advancing for a few dozens of meters before his large body fell to the ground after he got into the core area of Espi’s lineage pressure.

But until the end, the fierceness in that guy’s eyes didn’t dull in the slightest, which was honestly praise-worthy, not just anyone could keep their fighting spirit unaffected under the threatening aura of the little wyrm.

Seeing the two-legged creatures move to surround his subordinates which were completely paralyzed, the Komodo dragon king had blood come out of the corner of his mouth as he forced himself to stand up, only for his aggressiveness to disappear when Kana placed her hand on the Komodo dragon’s shoulder.

Of course, Aster only allowed her to do so, because he was holding onto the sword again, if the Komodo dragon king showed even the slightest hostility towards the little girl, Aster would turn him into minced meat without a second thought, he could only use Absolute Field one more time today too, both because he would reach his limit unless he was willing to faint afterwards and also because the sword could only endure one more use of it.

"We are not like them, look we have many friends from other races willingly living with us, like sister Ember and miss eagle for example", said Kana to the Komodo dragon king.

"Thud!", the large body of the Komodo dragon king fell to the ground as he stopped fighting against Espi’s pressure, after a quick gaze he realized that there were many different animal races siding with the two-legged creatures, horses, eagles and different snake races even.

"So, why were you guys so determined to kill us, you aren’t normal mortal animals so you could tell we weren’t the same ones you were fighting against not too long ago, right?", asked Aster which was translated for the Komodo dragon king by Kana.

Aster didn’t bother to ask why he wanted to kill Wade’s group, that was easy to guess, those fools probably killed anything that moved within the forest even if they couldn’t really consume it all, like it happened with those animals that were part of the welcoming gift.

Sure Aster’s group had a big help in the form of Kana who can even communicate with animals and is prompt to be liked by them, not to mention the little wyrm who acted as the introductory point for the group to the snake races, but even without all that Aster strictly only hunted what the group needed, he didn’t kill needlessly and avoided damaging the forest so at the end of the day he would have ended up meeting Guardian, with the lynx who could understand human speech to a certain extent, having a favorable impression of him.

"My ancestors were tricked and killed by creatures like you, my race nearly disappeared because of that betrayal, the sole young member of my race who survived in a wounded state thanks to the sacrifices of all the adults and elders, protected and trained the children of our race to be prepared for the future".

"These scars on my body are result of my training, however my tail’s missing tip is something I did myself, it’s the symbol of our promise to never forget what happened back then, the one leading the reptile races is to carry on this distinguishing trait so that when the time comes, we could get revenge for what happened back then against the two-legged creatures".

Basically, the Komodo dragon kings ripped the tip of their tails as that was the most notorious wound the one who survived back then had, so that if they ever fought the same humans of back then or their descendants, they would know that the ones killing them were descendants of those they betrayed.

Well, the chances of they meeting the same group humans were actually not that small, it probably happened during the events of three hundred years ago at the same time as when Guardian changed, but in a different forest and also that Komodo dragon couldn’t surpass his mortal limits like the lynx.

Which is understandable, the only animal that has gained such a long lifespan on her own without any external help, which Aster knows about so far is Guardian, the bear ate the corpses of cultivators and he was probably guided indirectly by a supervisor, after seeing that gray tomb, that guy was probably the mastermind behind everything that happened, because the dead animals were brought back with its power and it was the only one that could equal the blue flaming board.

There was still a major doubt in Aster’s mind, and that was why didn’t the blue flaming board appear three hundred years ago when those guys were running rampant in this area which is assigned to it, but perhaps it was because no group entered through a high-grade eastern gate, so Aster had the wild guess that the blue flaming board was limited to be in its trial road until a group of participants passed through it and entered this place.

"Well, I do respect that, however we have nothing to do with those guys, so how about this, join our side and if they appear we’ll help you get your revenge so long as it does not put the group at risk", said Aster to which the Komodo dragon king frowned as he asked.

"Why, you are stronger than us so I doubt you need our strength, but such a large group could use our flesh as their nourishment for sure, we even attacked first, so why are you putting this much effort into not killing us?", he said to which Aster shrugged.

"You don’t seem like the kind of guy that needs nor wants things to be sugarcoated so I’ll be direct, you guys are worth more as allies than as resources, we also have more food than what we can eat and this forest just lost a whole bunch of its inhabitants as well".

"And more importantly there are some people on my side who’ll be sad if you guys were to die pointlessly, so think this through, because once you had joined us officially, dying on your own stops being an option for you all", he said while patting Kana’s head.

The Komodo dragon king couldn’t help but look at the golden eyed creature in front of him, the greatness that his parents and grandparents spoke about their ancestor, seemed to overlap with Aster.

’He was "someone worth spilling till the last drop of your blood for", was it, old man?’, he thought to then lower his head allowing Kana to climb onto his body, and this is where Agnes and Fawn arrived.

"Come on, I was only gone for five minutes, did the fight really end so fast?", said the sportsy sun diamond princess to which Lieze couldn’t help but retort.

"I have discovered that, that is a lot of time when one is hanging around with this group".
