Chapter 680: Chapter 638: Come up, you come down! (12)
"HUFF... HUFF... Yinuo," Du Ruanqing panted, "do you think we’ll startle him by showing up like this?"
"Stop talking and just run inside!" Ou Mingsi stammered, completely out of breath.
"She’s right! Let’s just go!" Shedding her usual shyness about such topics, Jiang Yino also urged them on breathlessly.
"Alright! Just a dozen more meters! Charge!" Du Ruanqing shouted with a laugh.
The three women mustered what little strength they had left and sprinted the final stretch.
「Six days had passed.」
After some counseling from Ji Yi, the three young women had finally put their psychological trauma behind them. Just as Ji Yi had promised, she was returning three brand-new goddesses of Jinling University to Qin Fan. She had succeeded.
「Inside the auditorium.」
"Who would fear a day with only you and me..."
Slowly, he let the final note fade. After finishing the song, Qin Fan breathed a sigh of relief. He swept his gaze over the thousands of faces in the audience and smiled. "Thank you!"
With that, he elegantly turned, intending to leave the stage.
"Encore!"
"Encore!"
"Encore!"
But just as he took a step, a wave of sound erupted from the thousands of people below, powerful enough to nearly tear the roof off the auditorium. How could they let Heavenly King-level vocals like that go so easily? They hadn’t enjoyed it nearly enough!
While shouting for an encore, countless people were inwardly exclaiming in awe. What a freak! What a monster! He dominates the sports field. He’s unbeatable in the club challenges. And now, even his singing voice is at a divine level. Is this guy even human? How can an ordinary person be so flawlessly perfect? First, the NBA and the CBA came to recruit him. Next, will record company agents be breaking down the doors of Jinling University?
Amidst the calls for an encore, Qin Fan simply shook his head with a noncommittal smile. He wasn’t swayed by the shouts to stay and started to walk off.
"Sing one more!"
"Sing one more!"
"Sing one more!"
Cutting through the roar of the crowd, three breathless voices rang out in unison. Hearing those familiar voices mixed in with the clamor, Qin Fan stopped dead in his tracks. In disbelief, he spun around, his gaze shooting precisely toward the source of the sound.
He saw Jiang Yino and her friends, who had just run into the auditorium, gasping for breath as they looked at him.
HISS!
The next moment, Qin Fan cracked a boyish grin. His wide, toothy smile radiated pure relief. He knew from their expressions that the three of them had definitely overcome their trauma. Ji Yi’s psychological counseling had worked.
"Okay!" Holding the microphone, Qin Fan looked at Jiang Yino’s face, glistening with sweat, and smiled in agreement.
When the students below heard Qin Fan’s affirmation, they thought he was agreeing to their request and immediately roared with excitement. Without offering an explanation, Qin Fan turned to the staff and spoke into the mic, "I need a guitar. Do you have one?"
"Yes, yes, yes!" a staff member at the foot of the stage hurriedly replied, scurrying backstage. In less than ten seconds, he rushed back onto the stage with a guitar.
"Thank you!" Qin Fan nodded politely, placed the microphone back on its stand, and then, with the mic stand in one hand and the guitar in the other, walked to a raised platform that was part of the stage design. Seated on the platform, the microphone was at the perfect height for singing and playing. He needed no accompaniment and shook his head when the staff below asked if he needed anything else.
In the now-hushed auditorium, Qin Fan’s eyes, brimming with emotion, fixed on Jiang Yino. "This next song, ’A Lifetime of Love,’ is for my beloved, Jiang Yino!"
His beloved, Jiang Yino?
WHOOSH!
At his words, the entire audience stared with wide eyes. For the female students, the word "beloved" was a sharp sting to the heart. Seeing this sudden shift in Qin Fan’s demeanor, they all instinctively followed his gaze. There, standing at the very back of the auditorium, was Jiang Yino, who had also become a celebrity at Jinling University thanks to him.
Responding to his declaration, Jiang Yino nodded happily and made a gesture for him to begin.
Onstage, Qin Fan gently strummed the guitar strings. The backstage lighting operator, quick on the uptake, dimmed the main stage lights, casting a single circular blue spotlight on Qin Fan.
*The past is gone, never to return!*
*The red autumn leaves are buried deep in the earth!*
*Beginnings and endings always remain unchanged!*
*You wander far away, beyond the white clouds!*
*In the bitter sea, love and hate churn!*
*In this world, fate is inescapable!*
*So close, and yet we cannot touch!*
*Perhaps I should believe it is destiny!*
Through the song, Qin Fan poured out all the sorrow and helplessness over love he had felt during his five hundred years in the Cangqiong Continent, expressing a bone-deep longing.
Below, the audience felt the profound sorrow flowing through his voice. The sophomores and juniors, girls who had already experienced the trials of love, couldn’t stop tears from blurring their vision. No one spoke. Among the thousands of people—whether they were those who jealously held a grudge against him or the fans who were madly in love with him—not a single person made a sound to disturb the profound atmosphere. Seemingly lost in the song’s melancholy, Qin Fan continued to sing and play, weaving the tale of his arduous journey of love.
When the last note faded, he looked toward Jiang Yino. In the silence so complete you could hear a pin drop, he said with deep emotion, "If you want to be Zixia, then I am the Supreme Treasure who can become Sun Wukong without needing the Golden Ring to bind me! I can love you, and I can protect you! Yinuo, I’m sorry for all you’ve been through."
At first, everyone had been puzzled as to why Qin Fan would sing such a sorrowful song, but after his final words, they all understood. And with that understanding came a fresh wave of tears.
The story of *A Chinese Odyssey* begins perfectly but ends in tragedy. The Zixia Fairy said her fated love was a peerless hero who would ride a seven-colored cloud to marry her. What she didn’t know was that without the Golden Ring, he wasn’t the hero who could save her from her plight. But once he put it on, he became Sun Wukong, who had to forget all mortal attachments and could no longer love her. The line, "If I put on the Golden Ring, I cannot love you; if I take it off, I cannot save you," became a classic that brought tears to countless eyes. It represents the most agonizing choice in the world of love—the most heartbreaking, helpless, and poignant of decisions. It’s like the modern dilemma: if I pick up bricks to provide for you, I can’t hold you in my arms; if I put the bricks down to hold you, I can’t provide for you. How many people fall before the weight of reality, and how many dream of a Supreme Treasure who could love them even while wearing the Golden Ring?
Now, in front of thousands, Qin Fan had just voiced this universal female longing as a solemn promise to Jiang Yino.
It wasn’t just the emotionally sensitive girls who were crying; Jiang Yino was no exception. Staring at that silly, smiling face on the stage, she was bawling her eyes out. She knew better than anyone how deep Qin Fan’s love for her was.
"Get together!"
"Get together!"
"Get together!"
Suddenly, a powerful, magnetic voice shouted from the audience. In the next second, everyone—men and women, die-hard fans and school staff alike—joined the chant, their voices rising as one. "Get together! Get together!"
Onstage, facing the thunderous calls, Qin Fan spoke into the microphone, "Yinuo, come up here!"
"You come down!" Jiang Yino shouted back with all her might, laughing through her tears as she looked at the deeply affectionate man on the stage.
"Okay, I’m coming down!"
Even amid the roaring chaos, Qin Fan clearly heard her call for him to come down. He smiled, pushed the microphone stand aside, leaped off the high platform, and walked down from the stage. As the crowd’s chanting abruptly died down, he strode quickly to the back of the auditorium.
When he reached Jiang Yino, he didn’t hesitate for a second. He took her small hand with an undeniable dominance and led her straight outside. The sheer force of his action stunned everyone. By the time they recovered, Qin Fan and Jiang Yino were long gone.
"I’d rather be a pair of mandarin ducks than an immortal! So manly! Yinuo is so damn lucky!" Du Ruanqing murmured, rooted to the spot in pure envy.
At the same time, sighs of disappointment erupted from the audience. In that moment, countless girls felt their hearts sink.
"Damn! Old Fourth’s grand gesture was in a league of its own!" Zhu Houqing, the one who had started the "Get together!" chant, said with deep admiration. He paused, then added blankly, "I want to be that kind of man, too!"
"Get lost! You wouldn’t have a chance even in your next life!" Wang Dalu retorted with a laugh.
As they bantered, a commotion of murmurs and chatter spread through the auditorium, leaving the performers scheduled to go on after Qin Fan completely bewildered. Are we even supposed to go on stage after that?
「Outside the auditorium.」
Qin Fan held Jiang Yino’s small hand as they walked, only stopping when they reached a secluded stone bench in a small grove. He took off his jacket and draped it over her shoulders, then turned and pulled her down to sit on the bench.
"I’m not cold, you should wear it!" The moment she sat down, Jiang Yino couldn’t bear to see him in just a thin T-shirt and protested softly.
"It’s fine. You’re wearing it, and that’s final," Qin Fan chided gently but authoritatively, his arms wrapped around her as she sat on his lap. He sounded every bit the head of the household lecturing his disobedient young wife.
Hearing this, Jiang Yino couldn’t help but giggle. However, just as Qin Fan’s hands started to roam, she quickly slapped them away. "Stop it!"
At her slap, Qin Fan gave a wry smile but didn’t press the matter. He tightened his embrace and asked, "Yinuo, tomorrow’s the start of the holiday. Do you have any plans?"
"Why do I get the feeling you’ve already made plans for me?" Jiang Yino replied with a sly smile.
"Mhm. Come back to Jiangzhou with me. We can have some fun for a few days, and you can meet my parents," Qin Fan said, his expression suddenly serious as he looked her in the eyes, his voice full of tenderness.
"Ah!"
Jiang Yino let out a reflexive gasp, completely stunned. Going to Jiangzhou? Meeting his parents? This... this...!
After a moment, while Qin Fan waited, she shifted on his lap and said uneasily, "Isn’t this a little too fast? I don’t think I’m ready for that yet."
"It’s not too fast. The time is right," Qin Fan said earnestly, shaking his head. "Don’t say no. Come with me tomorrow." The hope in his eyes was unmistakable.
She knew this was his final decision. Her heart suddenly began to beat faster.
"What if your parents don’t like me?" Jiang Yino asked worriedly, biting her lip. She had already made up her mind, but she couldn’t help her anxiety. Given Qin Fan’s family background, she was just a girl from an ordinary family. From a worldly perspective, their family backgrounds didn’t match at all. She couldn’t just ignore these concerns.
"We’ll find out when we get there tomorrow, won’t we?" Qin Fan grinned, knowing he had won. He pulled her even closer against him.
Just as his hands started to get restless again...
RUSTLE! RUSTLE!
Jiang Yino’s sharp hearing suddenly caught the sound of footsteps nearby. She panicked and wriggled free. "Someone’s coming!" she whispered, hastily jumping off his lap, her heart pounding.
Qin Fan, however, merely smiled sincerely. He already knew someone was coming. And he knew it was Du Ruanqing and Ou Mingsi.
"Ahem. Yinuo, don’t pretend! We saw you two getting cozy from a mile away!"
Sure enough, the moment Jiang Yino sat up properly, Ou Mingsi’s voice drifted over from the side.
"Yep, not bad! This really is a nice spot," Du Ruanqing’s teasing voice chimed in. "You’ve got a good eye for places, Boss Qin!"
Jiang Yino whipped her head around and saw their two smirking faces. She scrambled to her feet and hurriedly said to Qin Fan, "See you tomorrow!"
With that, the thoroughly embarrassed Jiang Yino quickly walked over to her two friends. Without another word, she grabbed their arms and practically dragged them away, their chorus of delightful, wicked laughter lingering in the quiet grove.
