Chapter 678: Chapter 636: Pretentious, Hypocritical! (10)
"Ahem, cough... sorry. Where was I?" Instructor Wang asked awkwardly, unable to remember where she’d left off as the entire class stared at her.
"Instructor Wang, you were talking about Yinuo!" a female student replied with a smile.
Down in his seat, Qin Fan raised an eyebrow when he heard the name.
Hmm? Yinuo? What does she have to do with any of this?
Amid Qin Fan’s confusion, Instructor Wang nodded and said, "Yes, we were talking about Yinuo! Originally, one of our class’s three performances was a solo by Yinuo. We even registered the solo segment with the school administration. But now Yinuo has taken urgent leave and left campus, so we must select someone else to perform the solo. Is anyone interested? You can speak up now. Of course, there’s one condition—you can’t be completely tone-deaf! After all, our class’s reputation is on the line, right?"
Despite being a menopausal woman, Instructor Wang had a frank and hearty personality. Her little joke made the whole class burst into laughter.
"Alright, stop laughing. Be serious! This is the main reason for today’s class meeting. Who will replace Yinuo? If anyone has an idea, speak up!" Instructor Wang said, pushing up her glasses with a smile.
At her words, the laughter in the class abruptly stopped.
But no one raised their hand.
After all, this was a solo performance in front of a huge crowd. If you didn’t have the skills to back it up, you wouldn’t dare take the job. If you messed up, it wouldn’t just be your own embarrassment; you would disgrace the entire class.
"Are you kidding me? Out of dozens of people, there isn’t a single one who can carry a tune?" Instructor Wang asked, slightly taken aback when no one responded after a moment.
At this, the class broke into laughter once again.
Qin Fan included.
However, after his laugh subsided, he suddenly spoke up. "Since it’s to replace Yinuo, I’ll do it."
WHOOSH!
As soon as Qin Fan’s words fell, dozens of pairs of eyes in the classroom snapped toward him, all filled with astonishment.
Master Fan is actually volunteering? Could it be that Master Fan, who’s never shown off his pipes, is actually a great singer? If that’s true, that’s just too insane!
"Very good, Qin Fan, you’re up!" After a brief moment of surprise, clapping, Instructor Wang smiled and pointed at Qin Fan.
"Sing for us!" someone suddenly shouted.
Immediately, a chant picked up.
"Sing for us!"
"Sing for us!"
"Sing for us!"
Amid the chanting, even Instructor Wang looked at Qin Fan with eager anticipation.
"Alright, let’s skip the audition," Qin Fan said, shaking his head helplessly at the rhythmic demands of the class. "You all know me. Would I do anything to embarrass myself? Relax."
"Ahem, fine! In that case, let’s look forward to Qin Fan’s performance tomorrow! I believe in you!" Instructor Wang interjected, seemingly worried the students would go on forever.
With the replacement chosen, Instructor Wang moved on, discussing other important details for the event.
Qin Fan, who had been away from the classroom for a long time, showed his respect by listening intently from beginning to end, never once showing a hint of impatience. His occasional nods of understanding were a great comfort to Instructor Wang.
The hour-long meeting concluded, and Instructor Wang left the classroom.
Qin Fan, who rarely interacted with his classmates, didn’t put on any airs as students approached him one after another. His down-to-earth manner soon filled the classroom with laughter.
However, sitting off to one side, Yao Jianjia stared at his constantly smiling face and muttered through clenched teeth. Show-off. Hypocrite.
With a huff, she sprang up from her seat and stormed off.
To her, Qin Fan was a thorn in her side. The mere sight of him filled her with an indescribable indignation. Yet, despite her feelings, she was helpless against this monster. Not only was she helpless, but this menace had even strong-armed her family into "loaning" him their Spiritual Medicine Garden! At this rate, the Third Miss of the Jianjia family felt like she could bite someone.
Chats, adding on WeChat, exchanging phone numbers, and taking photos together—since Qin Fan had decided to drop his aloof persona and mingle with his classmates, these rituals were unavoidable. He graciously accepted every request, which only made his classmates’ fondness for him grow. How many god-like figures as approachable as him could one find in the entire Jinling University?
Like a pop star, Qin Fan finally left the classroom two hours later.
When he returned to his dorm, Wang Dalu and Zhu Houqing immediately pounced on him.
"Holy crap! Fourth Brother, I swear you’ve completely changed! What’s this about you volunteering for the singing part of the New Year’s Gala? Is that really you? Huh?!" Zhu Houqing shouted in disbelief.
"Is there a problem?" Qin Fan laughed.
"Yes, a huge one! This is completely out of character for you! Spit it out, have you been reading too many novels and lost your mind?" Zhu Houqing pressed on relentlessly.
"Get lost! The solo was originally Yinuo’s, but she had to take urgent leave from school, so the spot needed to be filled. No one else in our class volunteered, so I just stepped up. That’s it. Stop making a mountain out of a molehill," Qin Fan said with a light chuckle, shaking his head. "Hey, wait a minute, how did you guys find out?"
"It’s not just us. By now, the whole school probably knows! You’re basically a celebrity. How could news like this not spread instantly? I’m telling you, the screams tomorrow night are going to be insane! It takes a hopeless romantic like you to do this. If it were me, I’d be swapping girlfriends every other day! Not like you. Of all the fish in the sea, you’re clinging to just one and refuse to let go!" Zhu Houqing said, sounding as if he thought Qin Fan was missing out.
"You don’t know shit!" Wang Dalu retorted with a laugh. "A beast like you who only thinks with his lower half has no idea what love is! Serves you right that you’re stuck jerking off in the bathroom!"
That comment was like stepping on Zhu Houqing’s tail.
"Third Brother, let me tell you! Stop looking down on me! You think I can’t get a girl over here right now with a single phone call?" Zhu Houqing fumed, his eyes bulging.
"Luo Shiyu? Yeah, she’ll definitely come! I believe that!"
"Damn it! Can you not be so insulting? I wouldn’t touch her even if she were the last woman on Earth!"
"The girls from those little calling cards? Yeah, I believe that too!"
"Screw you! Fourth Brother, look at this! Is this guy even human? Is that how a brother is supposed to talk? Does he have to be so damn insulting?" Zhu Houqing, who was never a match for Wang Dalu in a war of words, turned to Qin Fan with a look of utter grievance. "Given my charm, are you telling me my only options are Luo Shiyu or some girl from an escort card?"
"Hmm, I agree with the Third Brother’s assessment," Qin Fan chimed in, enjoying the fun. "With a mouth like yours that can’t spit ivory, I’d say you’re a lost cause for this life."
"If this ’dog’s mouth’ of mine could spit out ivory, why the hell would I even be in college! Dammit! I’m going to bed. You guys are too damn mean!"
With that, Zhu Houqing childishly dove into his bed and pulled the covers over his head, making both Qin Fan and Wang Dalu burst out laughing.
