Chapter 677: Chapter 635: Am I Late? (9)
The crusade between the Werewolf lineage and the Vampire factions grew increasingly intense. However, the Guardian Institute’s operations did not cease because of their audacious and open challenge. The purge against the Werewolves and Vampires continued without pause.
Furthermore, this provocation, which struck at the very heart of the Huaxia Martial Arts World’s dignity, spurred numerous martial artists to join the hunt. In coordination with the Guardian Institute, the Vampires and Werewolves were like turtles trapped in a jar. They were outmatched in a fight and had no path of escape.
After all, the Martial Artists of Huaxia were now blood-crazed. They hunted them relentlessly, killing any they caught. Sometimes, several of them would even gang up on just a few of the enemy. Hua Xiaotian’s declaration, "Better to kill a thousand by mistake than to let one go," had removed all restraints from the Guardian Institute.
Likewise, amidst the frenzy of the Guardian Institute and the Martial Arts World, the Huaxia Martial Artists stationed abroad had already covertly returned home at the first opportunity to evade the inevitable retaliatory strikes.
Russia, England, and Huaxia. The hidden worlds of these three nations had completely torn off their masks of pretense. Standing upon their former glory, the Guardian Institute and the Martial Arts World fanatically defended the last bastion of Huaxia’s martial artists.
What was baffling, however, was that in the face of such a unified and rabid offensive from the Huaxia Martial Arts World, the Werewolf lineage and the Vampire factions had gone completely silent, as if nothing had ever happened.
To them, aside from the leaders of the incursion, those who had infiltrated Huaxia were nothing more than low-level grunts. If they were killed, they were killed. It was of no consequence.
As for their public demand for Qin Fan, it was merely a pretext to invade and dominate the Huaxia Martial Arts World, much like the dynamic between the Late Qing dynasty and those plundering nations of the past. Handing over Qin Fan would undoubtedly drag the prestige of the Huaxia Martial Arts World in the hidden world down to Hell. Refusing to hand him over would grant them a righteous cause to officially launch their war of invasion.
The old saying, "Those not of our kind are sure to be of a different mind," is an eternal truth.
Huaxia’s vast population and abundant resources had always been what the Werewolves and Vampires coveted most. In the past, they could only nurse their greed in the shadows, strengthening themselves in secret. But now, with the Wolf King and Earl Geman both having risen to become two of the four great dark overlords, they no longer bothered to hide their ambitions.
As for those old fossils in the Huaxia Martial Arts World? With their two forces combined, did the Werewolves and Vampires even need to care? This was the ambitious plan of the Werewolf lineage and the Vampire factions.
For several days, the Guardian Institute and the Martial Arts World continued their purge of Werewolves and Vampires.
Yet Qin Fan, the man at the center of this storm, remained completely oblivious. Even if he had known, he couldn’t have been bothered to care. For days on end, he remained holed up in his dormitory room. Aside from eating, drinking, sleeping, and reading novels, he did absolutely nothing else. He was even too lazy to go to his classes.
This left the other animals in his dorm utterly bewildered.
What the hell is going on with our fourth brother? Why has he suddenly become a completely different person? For months, he’s been as elusive as a Divine Dragon, barely ever even staying in the dorm. Now he’s cooped up inside for days on end without setting a foot outside? This is insane!
"Hey, seriously, Fourth Bro, what’s going on with you? Can you tell us? I’m not used to this new rhythm. I’d gotten used to you not being around, but now you’re suddenly staying put for days without leaving? I really can’t get used to it!" Zhu Houqing asked in exasperation, watching Qin Fan fix his clothes and hair in the mirror.
"Damn it! I’m here to go to school, and I paid the dorm fees! If I don’t attend class or stay in the dorm, isn’t my money going to waste?" Qin Fan shot back with a half-annoyed laugh.
"You’re only just realizing your money was wasted? This semester is almost over! Just count how many classes you’ve attended and how many nights you’ve stayed here! My god, I bet Jinling University regrets giving you that one-million-dollar scholarship!" Wang Dalu chimed in with a laugh.
"So now I’m turning over a new leaf. Any problem with that?" After straightening his attire, Qin Fan turned and gave them a playful wink.
"No, no problem! Wait a minute, are you actually planning to go to class?" Zhu Houqing asked, his eyes wide with disbelief.
"Yeah. Is there a problem?" Qin Fan repeated. Before they could respond, he broke into a wide grin and laughed. "Haha, let’s go! I’ve forgotten what the classroom even smells like!"
With that, he clapped them both on the shoulder and walked out with a smile.
The moment Qin Fan’s figure appeared in the academic building, the news spread like wildfire: Qin Fan was going to class! Countless students focused their gazes on that handsome figure. At Jinling University, Qin Fan skipping class wasn’t news. Qin Fan *attending* class? That was breaking news.
However, Qin Fan himself didn’t seem embarrassed in the least, smiling back at all the astonished stares he received on his way. With complete composure, he walked into his classroom.
"Qin Fan?" Advisor Wang, who was in the middle of a class meeting with Class 7, blurted out in astonishment when he saw Qin Fan appear at the doorway.
WHOOSH!
At his voice, the dozens of students in Class 7 all whipped their heads toward the door. Upon seeing that handsome, sharp face, they were all dumbstruck.
This maverick is in a classroom? He actually came to class? My God! What strange wind blew him in?
"Ahem, so... am I late?" Qin Fan asked, feigning embarrassment with a slight cough, though he felt none.
"No, you’re not late!" Advisor Wang replied, shaking his head dazedly.
The moment he said it, the students, who had been gaping in silence, couldn’t help but burst out laughing. The meeting was already half over. If that wasn’t late, what was?
Hearing the laughter, Advisor Wang realized his reply had been inappropriate and quickly tried to cover for it. "It’s a rare occasion for Student Qin Fan to attend. Let’s not make it awkward for him. He’s not late, not late at all, got it?"
"Yeah, yeah, not late!" the students quickly agreed, struggling to hold back their laughter.
Their gazes toward Qin Fan were filled with either adoration or admiration. For a maverick like him, who trampled all over school rules with such roguish charm, how could they not admire and adore him?
"Alright, thanks!" Qin Fan chuckled, belatedly realizing his question had been a bit tactless, and strolled casually inside.
Under the focused gaze of dozens of pairs of eyes, he found an empty seat and sat down.
"Dude, what class is this?" he asked, turning to a student whose face was familiar but whose name he couldn’t recall.
"Boss Fan, this isn’t a regular class! Advisors don’t teach those," the student replied, obviously thrilled to be talking to him. "This is a class meeting. It’s December 29th today, right? The holiday starts the day after tomorrow, so the school is holding a New Year’s Gala tomorrow night. Every department has to put on a performance, and for us freshmen in the finance department, they chose three classes, including ours! Advisor Wang is going over the details for tomorrow night’s gala!"
What the hell? A meeting? About the details for tomorrow’s New Year’s Gala? Shit! Did I come all this way for nothing?
Slightly stunned, Qin Fan gave a nod. He said no more and turned back to face the instructor, who had suddenly fallen silent at the front of the room.
