Chapter 664: Chapter 622: Give Me an Explanation!
Nestled in a bustling corner of Jinling, a bar exuding a strong, retro-European vibe had its doors firmly locked amidst the glaring lights and vibrant nightlife outside. Passersby occasionally glanced inside, and many regulars were baffled by the "Temporarily Closed" sign, especially because dim lights could be seen flickering within, where tall, burly men with European faces paced restlessly.
"Boss, there’s trouble!" a handsome young man with a prominent nose said gravely to a man sitting on a high stool at the bar.
"Speak!" the man commanded coldly, his back to the youth as he swirled a crimson liquid in a tall glass.
"I might have been exposed!" Jeremy said, clenching his teeth, a hint of panic in his voice.
Hearing this, the man’s hand stilled. A few seconds later, he set down the glass and asked, "What happened?"
"There’s a student at Jinling University named Qin Fan. He sensed my Beastly Nature and Beast Strength, and he even knows I drink blood! I fought him, but he defeated me in an instant! He had the chance to kill me or at least seriously injure me, but he didn’t. He wants to dig into my background to find out my real identity! Boss, he’s a threat to me!" Jeremy confessed, his voice trembling with nerves. Unlike the roundabout way Huaxia natives often speak, he recounted the incident directly.
"What?" The man was startled. He spun around on his stool, his thick eyebrows twitching. "Damn it, how could you make a mistake like that?"
"Boss, I underestimated him! I thought he was just an ordinary Huaxia Martial Artist, getting arrogant with a little bit of strength. He was going around campus challenging the clubs founded by foreign exchange students, and he even challenged my Martial Arts Club! I wanted to teach him a lesson, but I never expected it. Not only was I completely powerless against him, but I think I also revealed something about my identity!" Jeremy said, his voice quivering with residual fear.
"Shit! Even you were powerless against him? Fuck! Why didn’t you tell me sooner that someone that strong was on the Jinling campus?" the man berated him, his face a mask of furious disappointment.
"I... I never knew!" Jeremy stammered, his body trembling.
A dull THUD echoed the instant he finished speaking. In a burst of rage, the man had viciously kicked Jeremy. Caught completely off guard, Jeremy wouldn’t have dared to dodge even if he could have reacted in time. The powerful kick sent him flying, and he smashed heavily onto a cluster of tables.
Suppressing the agony wracking his body, Jeremy struggled to his feet and staggered back before the man. "Boss, I was wrong!"
"Do you have any idea how many layers of cover we Werewolves created just to blend into Huaxia? If your ignorance exposes us, do you have any idea what that means? Huaxia is teeming with hidden masters. The Guardian Institute is constantly deterring foreign forces that try to infiltrate, both overtly and covertly. And yet, at this critical juncture, you revealed signs of what you are to a Martial Artist? Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!" the man roared.
Just as his tirade ended, a phone on the bar began to buzz. The man snatched it up and answered.
He didn’t speak, listening silently to the report. After ten seconds, his expression changed dramatically. After twenty, he was a mixture of shock and fury. Thirty seconds in, he ended the call.
The instant he hung up, he shot to his feet and, filled with boundless rage, kicked Jeremy again!
"Bastard! You bastard! You goddamn bastard!" he roared uncontrollably, looking at Jeremy, who had once again sent tables and chairs flying.
"Boss, what happened?" Jeremy asked in alarm, his face deathly pale as he forced back the blood rising in his throat.
"Did you go hunting again earlier today?" the man snarled, rushing forward and grabbing Jeremy by the collar.
"Yes!" Jeremy trembled in response, completely bewildered by the man’s sudden explosion of anger.
Isn’t hunting normal? It wasn’t just me; everyone in the organization went hunting, including the Boss. So why was he bringing this up now? Confused, Jeremy began to panic.
"A few hours ago, the Huaxia police found a lead. An elderly Huaxia garbage collector reported seeing a shadow flash by, hearing a wolf howl, and then a girl disappeared! Now we have their attention! Damn it, how could you make such a low-level mistake? You couldn’t even handle such a basic security measure! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!" The repeated curses laid bare the man’s fury.
He finished by violently throwing Jeremy, who slammed into a wall several meters away. But Jeremy was too horrified by the man’s words to even feel the pain. He trembled uncontrollably.
"Boss, what do we do now? What do we do?" Jeremy scrambled to his feet and asked in a panic, making no attempt to defend himself.
"Halt all hunting! Lure that Huaxia bastard Qin Fan out and kill him! He’s already sensed what you are. If you suddenly disappear from Jinling University now, it will definitely draw his full attention! And if Qin Fan connects the dots and goes to the Huaxia police, do you have any doubt you’ll become the target of city-wide surveillance? Don’t underestimate the Huaxia police. They might be manageable without a target, but once they lock onto you, escaping their surveillance is no easy feat!" the man snapped, his voice cold, having ceased his violent outburst.
At this moment, it wasn’t just Jeremy who was panicking. Even the man himself began to feel a gnawing unease, as if a sense of foreboding was stirring in his heart.
"Yes, Boss!" As Jeremy responded, the sparse hair on his body suddenly thickened, rapidly covering him entirely. His frame expanded, two sharp tusks protruded from his mouth, and his features twisted until they formed the face of a beast.
A wolf’s face.
The man made no comment on Jeremy’s transformation, continuing, "I heard you’ve been getting close with those Vampires who snuck in from England. Care to explain?"
"Boss, I just wanted to use them as a cover, an extra layer of protection for my identity in case I was exposed!" Jeremy replied, his voice a low growl heavy with Beast Breath.
"Get them. The virgin blood we Werewolves hunted for can’t be drunk for free! Whether we can continue to hide our existence in Huaxia depends entirely on how well they serve as scapegoats!" the man said coldly. He turned and walked back to the bar.
Picking up the glass of crimson blood from the countertop, he tilted his head back and drained it in a single gulp.
