Chapter 620: Chapter 590: Human Selfishness!
Watching Bao Qiudong stagger away with all his might, Qin Fan didn’t immediately give chase. There were only people he didn’t *want* to catch, not people who could escape from under his nose.
He shot a cold, mocking sneer at the fleeing man’s back.
Qin Fan raised his other hand and slammed it down on the car’s hood.
BOOM!
The entire vehicle jumped high into the air before crashing back down onto the pavement. Its exhaust pipe went silent. As Qin Fan started to walk around the car, it disintegrated with a deafening CRASH, its parts scattering everywhere.
Maintaining a slow, even pace, Qin Fan walked on, entirely unconcerned that Bao Qiudong had already disappeared from view. He glanced up at the Bo Family’s building, a chilling, murderous aura beginning to emanate from him. Without breaking stride, he walked straight into the apartment block.
In the dimly lit courtyard, the balconies of the surrounding apartment blocks were filled with the powerful figures of Jinling, every one of them watching the scene unfold below.
They had seen Qin Fan stop the car and then destroy it with a single strike. To them, this wasn’t too shocking. After all, Qin Fan’s identity as a Martial Artist was no longer a secret. Months ago, he had killed the Transformation Realm Grandmaster Lan Xiaosheng with a single sword strike. Against that backdrop, wrecking a car was hardly surprising.
"It is said that one should never provoke a Grandmaster. That Bo boy... what kind of mush must be in his head for him to go looking for death like this?" an old man who had long since retired lamented as he watched Qin Fan enter the Bo Family’s building.
To provoke him without knowing his identity would be one thing. But to know he was an unparalleled prodigy and still cross him... if that wasn’t throwing yourself through Hell’s gates, what was?
"Old Master, it’s a matter of destiny! The Bo Family’s fortune has run dry, and there must always be a cause for a great family’s fall!" a man beside the elder replied. His features bore a striking resemblance to Chang Yuanyi.
"Yes, you’re right. It’s all fate," the old man said leisurely. "Haisheng, let Yuan Yi be. Don’t interfere in his affairs anymore. The chance to be by Qin Fan’s side is a once-in-a-millennium opportunity for our Chang Family! With the Bo Family’s collapse and our new connection to Qin Fan, your prospects of rising to power in Beijing have greatly improved!"
"Old Master, I only have one concern," Chang Haisheng voiced. "With Qin Fan acting so recklessly, will the higher-ups truly tolerate it? Will they just let him be? If they decide to punish Qin Fan, how could our Chang Family, now associated with him, escape unharmed?"
"Haha! You worry too much!" the old man chuckled meaningfully. He turned and walked back into the house. "I’ve had my fill of a Grandmaster’s display for one night. It’s time for bed."
***
BANG!
Inside the Bo Family’s apartment, the unlocked door was slammed open as Bao Qiudong burst in.
"Dad, it’s over! That bastard is here!" a trembling Bao Qiudong screamed, his voice hoarse with terror, not waiting for Bo Xianmin or his mother to speak.
Exhaling a long breath, Bo Xianmin raised his placid eyes to look directly at his son. "Life and death are preordained; wealth and honor are decided by heaven. We can only accept our fate! Since we can’t escape, the only choice left is to face it. Qiudong, don’t panic. Straighten your back! Remember, you are a man of the Bo Family. From the Great Qing Dynasty until now, we have never been cowards! Whether it’s a blessing or a curse, even if it means death, a member of the Bo Family must die on their feet!"
No longer roaring as he had before, Bo Xianmin sounded as if he had accepted the reality of their situation. His calm, detached tone was filled with nothing but hollowness and despair.
Facing a prodigy of the Martial Arts, facing a monster so revered that even Hua Xiaotian had to bow, facing the fiend who had single-handedly crippled Japan... what choice did they have left but powerlessness and despair? Could any ordinary person escape the pursuit of a Transformation Realm Grandmaster? In this situation, he had no choice but to accept his fate.
"Dad, I’m only twenty-four! I don’t want to die! I really don’t want to die!" Bao Qiudong wailed in response, breaking down into loud sobs.
"Qiudong!" Overcome with emotion, his mother rushed over and embraced him tightly, crying out in misery.
THUMP, THUMP, THUMP...
THUMP, THUMP, THUMP...
THUMP, THUMP, THUMP...
Amidst the mother and son’s tragic cries, the heavy sound of footsteps suddenly echoed from outside. The sound carried through the open door and into the Bo Family’s living room.
SWISH!
At the sound of the footsteps, the family of three went rigid.
The crying stopped.
Bo Xianmin’s throat suddenly felt bone-dry. He gripped the sofa with both hands, his head swiveling toward the doorway.
In that instant, as the cries of Bao Qiudong and his mother died out, the living room fell so silent you could hear a pin drop. The approaching footsteps sounded like the relentless march of the Death God, each thump a beat in the countdown to their demise.
Time ticked by, second by second.
As the family was on the verge of suffocating from the tension, the emotionless face of Qin Fan gradually came into view.
The moment he stepped into the Bo home, the matron threw herself to her knees before him.
"Young man, please, spare Qiudong! I’m begging you!"
As she knelt, she slammed her forehead heavily against the floor. Her status as Mrs. Bo had afforded her a life of luxury and the adulation of thousands. But at this moment, the once haughty and proud woman had no other choice. To save Bao Qiudong, she would cast aside all her dignity and pride. It was a perfect display of a mother’s love.
Unfortunately, she seemed to have forgotten the countless people who had once kowtowed to her, only to be met with her haughty, disdainful snorts.
"If kneeling and begging for mercy actually worked," Qin Fan sneered, looking down at Mrs. Bo’s pale, terrified face as he shook his head in amusement, "would there be any meaning to vengeance or consequences in this world?"
After speaking, he suddenly reached out and clamped his hand on the crown of her head.
He activated his Soul Capturing Technique, channeling his True Qi to push his Divine Sense into her.
"AHHH!!!"
"AHHH!!!"
The moment Qin Fan’s Soul Capturing Technique probed her sea of consciousness, Mrs. Bo’s face twisted into a gruesome mask as she began to shriek hysterically.
Faced with this horrific scene, Bao Qiudong did not move to defend his mother. Instead, he simply curled up on the floor, trembling. His eyes were wide with terror, but they held no trace of hatred for Qin Fan.
As for Bo Xianmin, he merely clenched his jaw and remained completely still.
One was her husband, the other her doted-on son. Yet, as they watched the woman closest to them suffer such agony, their fear and terror of Qin Fan paralyzed them into silence.
It had to be said that the selfishness of human nature and the coldness of the human heart were on full display in the Bo Family’s living room.
