Chapter 124: Chapter 124 Meeting With The Guest 8
Seeing that Nathan still possessed enough strength to retaliate, Beta Felix did not hesitate.
"Fire again!" he ordered through the mindlink.
Fortunately, the warehouse manager had already anticipated such a possibility. The moment the first volley had been fired, he had immediately ordered all shooters to abandon their positions and retreat to the secondary firing locations without even bothering to confirm whether the darts had struck their target.
His decisiveness now proved invaluable.
By the time Beta Felix’s second command arrived, every shooter had already repositioned themselves and was once again aiming through their scopes.
A split second later, the second volley was unleashed.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Sedative darts shot through the air from multiple directions and struck Nathan before he could even take a single step forward.
The first volley had already begun affecting his body. Although his Alpha physiology and sheer willpower allowed him to resist the drug far longer than any ordinary werewolf could, the sedatives were still taking their toll.
His movements had become sluggish, and his limbs felt heavier with every passing second. The only reason he remained standing was because of his monstrous physique and unyielding stubbornness.
Then the second volley hit.
Nathan’s massive body visibly swayed.
The murderous fire burning in his eyes flickered.
His legs trembled.
For a moment, it looked as though he was trying to force himself forward through nothing but pure rage. He lowered his body, preparing to launch after Felix and the others one final time.
But this time, even an Alpha’s willpower wasn’t enough.
The combined dosage finally overwhelmed his system.
His vision blurred.
His limbs gave out.
With a heavy thud that shook the ground beneath him, Nathan’s enormous wolf body collapsed forward.
Fortunately, he fell face-first rather than to the side. Had he collapsed sideways, his immense weight might have driven the sedative darts deeper into his flesh and caused additional injuries. Instead, his body crashed into the earth in the exact direction he had intended to charge.
Silence followed.
A long, heavy silence.
Then, almost simultaneously, everyone released the breath they had been holding.
Relief swept through the pack like a wave.
Warriors leaned against trees and walls as they struggled to calm their racing hearts. Others wiped away cold sweat while breathing heavily, their legs still weak from the tension. For the first time since Nathan’s frenzy began, they finally felt safe.
Once they confirmed that their Alpha was truly unconscious, the warriors cautiously approached him and began organizing his transport back to his quarters.
As for Nathan, the moment unconsciousness fully claimed him, his wolf form gradually dissolved. Thick fur receded, massive muscles shrank, and within moments, he returned to his human form.
The transformation made transporting him considerably easier, allowing several warriors to carefully lift him and carry him back toward the packhouse and back to the Alpha’s room.
Nearby, Felix finally slowed to a stop. After ensuring the situation was under control, he gently lowered Maddison from his arms and helped her stand.
Only then did the Beta allow himself to truly relax.
The crisis, at least for now, was finally over.
"No!!!"
The piercing scream shattered the fragile sense of relief that had just settled over the area.
Beta Felix had barely begun to relax after Nathan’s collapse when Maddison’s anguished cry rang out beside him. The sheer volume and desperation behind it made his sensitive werewolf hearing ring painfully, leaving his ears momentarily numb and his thoughts scrambled. His heart immediately lurched into his throat.
For a split second, he thought Maddison had finally lost her composure over their decision to sedate Nathan.
But when he turned toward her, the words died in his throat.
Maddison had doubled over, one hand clutching her stomach so tightly that her knuckles had turned white. Her face, already pale from her injuries, had become completely bloodless. Tears streamed from her eyes as pain and panic twisted her features.
And then Felix saw it.
Blood.
A horrifying amount of blood.
It stained her inner thighs and continued to flow downward, pooling on the ground beneath her feet. Since she was still unclothed after her shift, there was nothing to conceal the crimson trail. The sight was so obvious, so alarming, that even the surrounding warriors immediately noticed it.
Felix froze.
His entire body went rigid.
For a brief moment, it felt as though the world had stopped turning.
An icy chill crawled up from the soles of his feet, spreading through his legs, his spine, and eventually reaching his scalp. The relief he had felt seconds earlier vanished completely, replaced by a terror far greater than anything he had experienced while dealing with Nathan’s frenzy.
Because there was only one conclusion his mind could reach.
A miscarriage.
The possibility struck him like a hammer.
The pup growing inside Maddison’s womb was not just any child. It was Alpha Nathan’s bloodline. The future heir of the pack. The offspring of an Alpha and his fated mate.
If something happened to that child...
Felix felt his stomach drop.
He could already imagine the devastation that would follow.
If Alpha Nathan woke up and discovered that his unborn pup had been lost, there was no telling what kind of storm would descend upon the pack. The Alpha’s grief and rage would be beyond reason, beyond control.
The thought alone made Felix’s blood run cold.
For the second time that day, the Beta found himself staring at disaster, and this one seemed far more terrifying than the last.
After a moment of stunned paralysis, Beta Felix finally snapped back to reality.
"Damn it!"
Without wasting another second, he bent down and scooped Maddison into his arms once more. The instant he lifted her, he nearly stumbled as a sharp pain shot through his back. Maddison’s elongated nails had dug deep into his flesh, piercing through skin and muscle as she instinctively clung to him through the pain coursing through her body.
Felix gritted his teeth but ignored the pain entirely.
Compared to what Maddison was going through, his injuries meant nothing.
Holding her as carefully as he could, he sprinted toward the medical clinic located near the packhouse, his speed reaching its limit as panic fueled every step. At the same time, his furious mindlink swept through the entire medical staff.
"Everyone, prepare to receive Luna Maddison!" he snarled. "She appears to be suffering a miscarriage!"
His words exploded through the minds of every doctor, healer, and nurse within the medical clinic.
The effect was immediate.
A wave of shock and dread spread through the medical personnel. They all understood exactly what was at stake. This wasn’t merely the Luna’s life hanging by a thread; it was also potentially the future heir of the pack.
Within seconds, the entire clinic erupted into action.
Doctors rushed from their offices. Nurses abandoned whatever tasks they were performing. Healers gathered their supplies and healing herbs. Emergency equipment was wheeled into position while operating rooms were rapidly prepared.
By the time Felix reached the clinic entrance, the medical team was already charging toward him.
Several nurses pushed an emergency stretcher trolley forward while doctors barked out rapid instructions to one another. The moment Felix arrived, they carefully transferred Maddison from his arms onto the waiting stretcher.
