Chapter 122: Chapter 122 Meeting With The Guest 6

The reason behind it was simple yet deeply rooted in the instincts and hierarchy of their kind. An Alpha was expected to maintain absolute awareness of their surroundings at all times, for their own protection, authority, and pride.

The moment an Alpha lost consciousness through sedation, they became vulnerable, unable to sense danger or defend themselves if someone with malicious intent decided to take advantage of their weakened state.

And if fate was cruel enough for a rival Alpha from an opposing pack to discover them in such a condition, the consequences would be catastrophic. A sedated Alpha would be completely at the enemy’s mercy.

Even if the elite warriors guarding them fought with everything they had, how could they possibly match another Alpha in speed, strength, and brutality?

The answer was obvious. They could not. In the end, only one outcome would remain — a massacre of the sedated Alpha’s side.

Because of this, forcing an Alpha into unconsciousness was seen as stripping away their dignity and exposing weakness before others. Alphas were leaders who stood above the pack; their pride was tied directly to their dominance and control.

To sedate one was to wound not only their body, but also their ego and authority. That was why such an act carried such severe consequences.

But right now, Beta Felix and the others had run out of options. If they continued allowing Nathan to wreak havoc in his current state, destruction would still be inevitable. As the Beta and second-in-command, Felix could only grit his teeth and make the choice no one else dared to make.

"Beta... this..." the warrior muttered hesitantly, his voice trembling as he instinctively glanced toward Nathan’s massive wolf form in the distance. Even from where they stood, the suffocating pressure radiating from the enraged Alpha was enough to make his body shiver in fear, his instincts screaming at him to stay away.

Beta Felix noticed the hesitation in the warrior’s eyes, but his own expression only hardened with resolve. "It’s okay," he said firmly. "Just do as I say."

His gaze briefly shifted toward Nathan before he continued in a lower voice. "When the Alpha wakes up, I’ll take full responsibility for this... including whatever punishment comes with it." A bitter smile tugged at the corner of his lips before disappearing just as quickly.

"Right now, our priority is protecting the pack. If outsiders learn about this situation, they could easily take advantage of the chaos and launch an ambush while we’re vulnerable."

As he spoke, Beta Felix carefully rested Maddison’s back beside a large tree, making sure her back rested comfortably against the rough trunk before stepping back slightly. His movements were unexpectedly gentle despite the tension surrounding them.

"Luna Maddison, please leave this to us for now," he said quietly. "You should rest for a while." His expression softened with guilt as he lowered his head slightly toward her. "And... I hope you won’t hold my earlier words against me. I was rattled by the situation and said things I shouldn’t have."

Maddison was in no better condition herself. The impact from earlier had left several of her bones damaged, and although her wolf was already healing the injuries from within, the process was agonizing.

Every breath sent sharp pain through her body, making it feel as though she was slowly crumbling apart from the inside. Still, she forced herself to endure it quietly. Refusing to show weakness in front of the others, she maintained a faint smile despite how pale her face had become.

"Go on," she said softly, though her voice carried traces of exhaustion. "I’ll explain everything to Nate once he calms down, so don’t worry about it. I understand your situation very well... just do what you must."

The moment those words left her lips, Beta Felix discreetly released a breath of relief he had been holding in from the very beginning. Truthfully, this was exactly what he had been hoping for all along.

That was also the reason why he had taken the initiative to apologize earlier for questioning the bond between Maddison and Nathan. While his doubts had undoubtedly crossed the line, the situation itself had been too bizarre and dangerous for him not to question it.

However, beneath his apology and careful words was another purpose entirely.

If Maddison understood his true meaning, then she would willingly shield them from Nathan’s wrath once the Alpha awoke and learned they had sedated him.

Felix knew better than anyone how terrifying Nathan’s temper could be, especially in his current unstable state. Though he was the Beta and Nathan’s right-hand man — someone raised since childhood to stand beside the future Alpha — he was still replaceable in the end.

Loyalty alone would not save him if Nathan’s rage spiraled out of control. Beta Felix had no doubt that the furious Alpha might very well tear his head from his shoulders without hesitation.

But Maddison was different.

She was Nathan’s fated mate.

No matter how enraged Nathan became, Beta Felix doubted he would truly harm her. Maddison understood this just as clearly as he did, which was why she willingly stepped forward to bear this burden for them.

In exchange, she would earn not only Beta Felix’s gratitude, but also his unwavering loyalty moving forward. After this, the Beta would undoubtedly obey her commands more readily and treat her with even greater respect, owing her a favor for shielding him from the consequences of sedating his own Alpha.

After receiving Maddison’s approval, Beta Felix immediately reached out through the mindlink, his expression turning grim once more.

"Prepare several vials of the sedative," he ordered the warehouse manager in a steady voice. "Load them into a rifle and find the best possible vantage point. You’ll need to fire from a distance... far enough that the Alpha won’t be able to kill you before the drug takes effect."

A heavy silence followed from the other side of the mindlink before the warehouse manager finally responded, his voice trembling with fear.

"Beta... that... are you sure?"

Cold sweat had already begun forming on his back the moment he understood what Beta Felix was asking of him. The instant he fired the first shot, Alpha Nathan would undoubtedly pinpoint his location almost immediately.

In his enraged state, the Alpha’s senses were monstrously sharp, and once Alpha Nathan realized someone had dared attack him with a sedative, all of that terrifying fury would inevitably shift toward the shooter.

And that was the most horrifying part.

The warehouse manager knew very well that one vial would never be enough to bring down an Alpha like Nathan. Alphas possessed abnormally high resistance to drugs and toxins compared to ordinary werewolves, and Nathan himself was an exceptionally powerful Alpha with a massive physique.

Realistically, it would probably take five, maybe even seven shots before the sedative fully overwhelmed his system and forced him unconscious.

Which also meant one thing.

He would have to continue firing while a furious Alpha hunted him down.

"Of course you shouldn’t do it alone," Beta Felix replied flatly, sounding as though the warehouse manager had asked an utterly foolish question.

His tone remained calm, but there was clear impatience beneath it. "Prepare a team of at least a dozen men and position them across different locations. Spread them out far enough that the Alpha won’t be able to focus on a single target immediately."
