Chapter 870 - The True Martial Heir

Three days after Han Wu’s return to Imperial College, Xu Hai called him to his new office.

Xu Hai’s status had risen dramatically thanks to his growing power and faction, elevating him to the second most important figure at Imperial College, behind only the chancellor. His new office was grandly furnished. Every inch of it radiated authority.

When Han Wu arrived, he found not only Xu Hai waiting for him but also Feng Shiren and several others from the higher management. Unexpectedly, he also spotted the Bankrupt God King.

The Bankrupt God King—or more politely, the True Martial God King—had once sent someone to kidnap him.

Naturally, Han Wu immediately grew suspicious.

True Martial smiled. “Han Wu, do you remember me?”

“True Martial God King. It’s been a while,” Han Wu replied, flashing a smile only just large enough to be polite.

“Xu Hai, you’ve really found yourself a remarkable student,” True Martial complimented.

Xu Hai nodded and gestured for Han Wu to sit so they could get down to business.

“Han Wu, we’ve called you here because the True Martial God King has a request,” Feng Shiren said. “The True Martial God King wishes to find an heir at Imperial College. This is a great honor for our institution.”

Han Wu nodded agreeably. A God King coming to recruit an heir from Imperial College was like a Fortune 500 company coming to campus to scout its next CEO.

But what does this have to do with me? Surely the True Martial God King doesn’t want me as the heir? Han Wu snuck a glance at True Martial, only to find the man staring at him with a concerning smile.

Feeling uneasy, Han Wu quickly ran through the situation in his head. While his Duel Jurisdiction and Slaughter Jurisdiction had high compatibility with the True Martial Jurisdiction, he simply had zero interest in becoming the man’s heir. He genuinely looked down on the man.

Moreover, True Martial was petty and cheap. Becoming his heir would mean a life of poverty.

“I wish the True Martial God King the best of luck in finding a suitable heir,” Han Wu rejected smoothly.

True Martial’s expression froze.

Xu Hai suppressed a smile. He knew Han Wu’s personality better than anyone. A simple heir title was never going to lure him, especially not from a middling faction like the True Martial Faction.

“Han Wu, do you have any other thoughts on the matter?” Feng Shiren asked, pointedly clearing his throat.

Han Wu paused, then faked realization. “Oh, now that you mention it, I do have a thought.”

True Martial’s face brightened with anticipation.

“I think Feng Fanchen, the second year valedictorian, is excellent. He’d make a fine heir for the True Martial God King.”

True Martial’s smile vanished. Feng Shiren, on the other hand, beamed. Feng Fanchen was his grandson, and hearing the praise made his day.

Seeing that Han Wu refused to take the bait, True Martial decided to drop the act. “Han Wu, I genuinely admire you—”

“True Martial God King, your taste is impeccable. My mentor admires me, too. In fact, he’s planning to have me take over for him one day.” Han Wu gestured toward Xu Hai.

Xu Hai chuckled and played along. “How could anyone not like this kid? The future of the Wisdom Faction rests on his shoulders.”

That shut down True Martial’s pitch entirely. Xu Hai was Han Wu’s mentor. No one could argue against him having Han Wu as his heir.

“Fair enough. I was asking too much,” True Martial relented, deciding to pivot. “However, I have another request. I recently discovered an outer civilization called the Martial Arts Civilization. Its system is highly compatible with my True Martial Jurisdiction, and I want to use it as the grounds for selecting my heir. Unfortunately, my position prevents me from leaving the Divine Civilization easily, so I’d like to commission Han Wu to scout it for me.”

Han Wu smiled politely. “True Martial God King, you have no shortage of capable officers. Send a few Major Gods to do it. Why come all this way to find me? My studies have been very demanding lately. I really can’t spare the time.”

The higher management of the Imperial College nearly choked. Studies? Demanding? Han Wu was Imperial College’s most notorious truant. They were lucky if he even chose to attend one of the six major lectures per semester. Hearing him say that his studies were demanding was beyond absurd.

True Martial was not about to give up so easily, praising Han Wu’s strength and even offering something that made Han Wu’s jaw drop: a complete Divine Jurisdiction.

Han Wu was genuinely shocked. True Martial was famously the poorest God King. Offering an entire Divine Jurisdiction as payment was staggering.

It also set off alarm bells. True Martial wouldn’t be this generous without a reason. The mission was likely a death trap.

“Please find someone else, True Martial God King,” Han Wu rejected firmly. “I’m not up to the task. If there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave.”

With that, he bowed to his mentor and walked out. The higher management grumbled but didn’t dare say anything in front of Xu Hai.

“Well then, I won’t impose any further. Take care, everyone.” True Martial stood up and left.

Feng Shiren chased after him and tried to pitch his grandson instead. “Han Wu has his commitments, but Feng Fanchen truly is a fine young man. Won’t you consider him?”

“I’d rather have no heir than settle,” True Martial bluntly replied before transporting away.

Feng Shiren stood alone, facing the empty air. “Blind fool. My grandson is excellent.”

At Zhong Heng’s territory, True Martial flatly reported, “Han Wu refused.”

“We expected this.” Zhong Heng assured him. “Doesn’t matter. If he won’t come willingly, I have other methods. I refuse to believe that Han Wu doesn’t have a weakness.”
