Chapter 869 - Evilspawn Ghost Blade
Jing Jing calmly watched as the War Faction invaded. Behind her stood eighteen Bone Dragons and some of Han Wu’s elite units.
Their training sessions against Evilspawn had significantly improved each of their actual combat strengths. Evilspawn had yet to submit, but Jing Jing was confident that he would break with time.
Before dealing with Evilspawn, Jing Jing had a more pressing task: trapping the invading War Faction force on the lost continent. The invaders had realized the dangers of this continent and were trying to escape.
Jing Jing led a large group of units toward the edge of the landmass to target the War Faction’s fleet. With Bart’s assistance, the Bone Dragons and Steely combined their firepower to destroy every ship. The fleeing War Faction forces crashed back down onto the lost continent, where another round of slaughter awaited.
Across three days and nights, the invading units were hunted down and killed. The newly converted had no faith in Han Wu yet, but this was of little concern to him. It was only a matter of time before they were devoted to him. After all, they couldn’t truly die, and the only way to stop the beatings was to become Han Wu’s believer. Anyone with half a brain knew the right choice, unless they were as stubborn as Evilspawn.
Evilspawn hovered near constantly on the edge of life and death. Each death cost him more of his memories, and soon, he forgot who he was, where he came from, and why he was being beaten. Only one thing remained in his heart. He wanted a blade, and that blade was in Han Wu’s hands.
This obsession deepened with every death. It even affected his monstrous form, which piqued the Origin of Mutation and V’s interest. They believed that studying him could unlock secrets about the lost continent’s laws, so they subjected him to all manner of experiments and tests.
Evilspawn died even more frequently under their combined experimentation. His memories were completely erased, but his obsession with the blade intensified. Eventually, under the influence of the lost continent’s laws, his monstrous undead form became a blade.
The gray blade resembled the Peerless White Blade in shape, with nine slots along its surface. Han Wu came to see for himself when he received the report and was genuinely impressed.
Evilspawn’s obsession ran deeper than he thought. He had turned himself into a blade just because he couldn’t get the real one!
Even as a blade, Evilspawn’s subconscious still rejected Han Wu, resisting his attempts to wield it, so Jing Jing picked it up and gave it a few swings instead. She found that its power was comparable to the Peerless White Blade before any Divine Weapons had been equipped into the slots.
Unfortunately, the blade lacked a legendary Armament Spirit, and Jing Jing had no Divine Weapons to bolster it with. After an extensive analysis, V concluded that Evilspawn’s blade form did indeed have the capacity to accept other enhancements.
Jing Jing didn’t have Divine Weapons, so she decided to try equipping Microcosms instead. Not having her own, she used those of her World Bone Dragons.
As V had predicted, the blade powered up after she equipped nine Microcosms into the blade. Layers of grey bone grew across the previously plain surface, and a thin shroud of Death Energy shrouded it.
Any living being cut by this blade would slowly turn into grey bone, with the wound as the source. Affected areas would have their life force extinguished. The grey bone it produced was also extraordinarily tough, making it an excellent foundation for skeleton warfare.
Jing Jing loved this weapon. Following the naming conventions of the Peerless White Blade, Han Wu called it the Evilspawn Ghost Blade.
With Evilspawn dealt with, Han Wu focused on the new lost continent members. Those refusing to worship him would receive the same treatment as Evilspawn: beaten until they did or until they became inanimate.
In less than three days, every captured unit was converted into Han Wu’s believers. The resentment from being beaten actually made them stronger when they transformed into their undead forms, allowing Han Wu to unintentionally profit yet again.
When news of this reached the War Faction, Zhong Heng nearly passed out from rage. His invasion force had inflicted zero damage and instead became Han Wu’s reinforcements.
He wanted to lead a force to personally crush Han Wu, but the latter wasn’t even a God King yet. Outside of a divine war, a powerful and well-known God King like Zhong Heng attacking someone of Han Wu’s level would only provoke outrage. If the other factions backing Han Wu reported it to the Will of the Divine Civilization, Zhong Heng would surely face punishment.
Zhong Heng clenched his fists in frustration. “Is there really nothing I can do about this kid?!”
“Father,” Feng Xian called out as he approached. “I heard that Han Wu apparently disrupted one of the True Martial God King’s plans years ago. The True Martial God King sent a God after Han Wu, but the attempt failed, costing him his reputation. Why not reach out to the True Martial God King? If we work together, we might find a way to deal with Han Wu.”
Zhong Heng nodded. While his personal relationship with True Martial was decent, he tended to forget about his poor friend because the True Martial Faction was perpetually broke. If True Martial could help eliminate this headache, Zhong Heng was willing to consider helping the True Martial Faction financially.
The War God King paid True Martial a visit, and after a warm, cordial discussion, the two reached a consensus. Han Wu needed to die, no matter the cost.
At the same time, with Xu Hai’s endorsement, the lost continent was officially certified and added to the Divine Civilization’s territory. The lost continent was no longer just under Han Wu’s protection, but the Will of the Divine Civilization’s as well.
In return, Han Wu had to pay a significant annual tax.[1]The lost continent’s population size meant the generated Faith Points fell short of covering the tax, so Han Wu decided to attract others to invest to avoid running at a loss.
He invited the Wisdom, Death, and Wealth Factions to establish research facilities on the lost continent. They would conduct further research and construct infrastructure to help accelerate the continent’s development.
All three factions agreed immediately. Contracts were signed the same day, and the construction teams moved in. The lost continent would become a region on par with the Divine Civilization’s major cities in just three years.
