· ─ ·✶· ─ · ·"Let’s have our walk?"
Ezra’s eyes visibly lit up, it was almost like he had stars in them.
Even after all these years, Ezra’s eyes were still his best asset.
It just so happened that his pool of stars were in a beautiful galaxy, and that beautiful galaxy was Ezra’s face.
He was so beautiful it hurt.
It made Helios throb in more ways than one.
’It’s a surprise that you asked me to just...walk with you." Ezra says almost shyly, his usual confident aura was not present.
’Always so loyal.’ Helios thought, he knew Ezra adored him.
Ezra worshipped the ground he walked on. Put him on a pedestal so high that Helios knew he could never reach it.
But it’s funny.
It wasn’t enough.
Helios needed more.
He needed love.
He needed deep and pure passion.
He needed to feel that Ezra saw him the way he saw Ezra.
Helios knew they could never go beyond anything unless he made the move.
So, he was making the move.
It was unconventional, but it would be effective.
"I just felt like walking with you." Helios finally answers Ezra as soon as he realizes he was taking too long to answer.
Ezra exhales happily as he looks ahead. "It is a good day for a walk. So great job as always."
"Why thank you." Helios says jokingly. "I do my best to stay absolutely perfect."
"You always are. You don’t have to try." Ezra says with a small laugh.
"’Hm?" Ezra glances back at him, unknowing and oblivious.
’....if you continue that I might snap and not even wait for you to pass out.’ Helios thought, almost hungrily.
But that wouldn’t be right. It might be interesting to see how Ezra would react-but he wanted the first time to be beautiful
"...you’re always quick to compliment as if you also aren’t someone who people admire." Helios says that instead of his inner thoughts.
"Pfft." Ezra laughs. "Me? Admirable?"
"Yes, the fact that you’re laughing is proof enough that you’re completely unaware."
"I fear the only thing people feel about me is either fear or disdain." Ezra says with an amused tone. "Even the sentinels still refuse to acknowledge me."
"Not all of them though."
"Leomord and Friendrinn are a special case."
Ezra says.
"Not as special as me though?" Helios asks with a teasing tone.
Ezra blinks three times, obviously not expecting what Helios said. But much to Helios’ surprise, Ezra was quick to compose himself to answer.
"No one could be as special as you."
SNAP.
That was the last straw for Helios.
He didn’t think. He didn’t respond.
Within a second, he went from walking beside Ezra, to grabbing him by the shoulders, and pulling him slightly towards himself.
"Helios—" Ezra gasps, confusion written all over his face.
"You really have a way of—Ezra!"
Helios barely had time to finish his sentence before everything happened too fast.
One second, Ezra was staring at him in shock, his beautiful eyes wide and confused.
The next, his body suddenly went limp.
"Ezra!"
Helios instinctively caught him before he could fall, his arms wrapping around him just in time.
For a brief moment, genuine panic flashed across his face.
Then he remembered.
The medicine.
The medicine Fizzy had slipped into Ezra’s drink had finally taken effect.
"Right on time," Helios murmured, quickly composing himself.
He tightened his hold around Ezra’s waist, keeping him steady against his chest.
Ezra’s head rested against his shoulder, completely defenseless.
"Ezra? Ezra, are you okay?" Helios asked, keeping his voice calm.
Not because he was concerned.
Because he needed to be sure.
He waited.
He waited for a full minute, listening carefully for any response.
Nothing.
No movement.
No answer.
Only the slow rise and fall of Ezra’s breathing.
Once he confirmed that Ezra was indeed asleep, Helios carefully slipped an arm beneath his knees and lifted him into a bridal carry.
Ezra was surprisingly light.
Or perhaps Helios had imagined this moment so many times that carrying him felt effortless.
"Let’s take you home," Helios mumbled affectionately as he began to walk.
The words sounded casual.
Gentle.
Not too obvious.
As if this was the most natural thing in the world.
As if he wasn’t carrying an unconscious Ezra Bellorén through the night.
"Tell Fizzy to meet me at the front of the palace. The gem is being delivered."
Helios spoke without slowing his pace.
His gaze shifted slightly to the side.
Hidden among the darkness, he caught sight of the shadowy figure of one of his Shadow Knights.
The man immediately lowered his head in acknowledgment.
A silent nod.
Then he vanished without a word, disappearing back into the darkness as though he had never been there.
Helios looked down at the omega in his arms.
His expression softened.
’Finally.’
It wasn’t a long walk from where they were to his palace.
Helios didn’t have to wait long anymore.
Helios walked in silence.
He needed it.
If he allowed himself to think too much right now, he might do something reckless before they even reached the palace.
So he forced himself to calm down.
Forced himself to breathe.
Forced himself to clear his mind.
The night air was cool against his skin as he continued forward, Ezra secure in his arms.
Every few steps, Helios glanced down.
Checking.
Watching.
Making sure Ezra was still asleep.
Making sure those beautiful eyes stayed closed.
Ezra’s face was peaceful like this.
Too peaceful.
Without the walls.
Without the endless caution.
Without the distance he always kept between them because of their status.
Helios found himself pulling him closer against his chest.
As though someone might suddenly appear and take him away.
As though Ezra might somehow wake up and disappear.
His grip tightened ever so slightly.
"I love you so much," he whispered.
The words escaped before he could stop them.
Soft.
Quiet.
Almost desperate.
Ezra didn’t respond.
Of course he didn’t.
He remained asleep against him, breathing steadily.
’Soon.’
Helios lowered his gaze.
’Soon you’ll understand.’
Soon it would be official.
And if everything worked out, soon...they will be a family.
Helios’ palace was finally coming into view.
And standing near the entrance was Fizzy.
Waiting.
Just as instructed.
The moment Fizzy spotted them, his face immediately brightened.
He raised a hand and waved enthusiastically.
But he didn’t call out.
Didn’t ask questions.
Didn’t make a sound.
He simply smiled.
Because he knew.
He knew the plan. He knew what to do.
Helios could feel his heartbeat picking up.
The anticipation.
The excitement.
After all these years.
After all this waiting.
It was finally happening.
His pace unconsciously quickened.
A little faster.
’Almost there—’
Then—
"Your Highness!"
Helios froze.
Not only physically, but internally as well.
His jaw tightened.
’No.’
Slowly, he turned his head.
To his surprise, two familiar figures were approaching from behind.
Leomord and Friendrinn.
Of all people.
’Why now?’
Helios carefully smoothed out his expression before either of them got close enough to notice anything.
The prince’s smile returned effortlessly.
Polished.
Perfect.
The same smile everyone expected from him.
Friendrinn’s eyes immediately dropped to the unconscious omega in his arms.
Concern flashed across his face.
"Is that the Captain?" he asked. "What happened to him? Is he alright?"
Leomord stepped closer.
His gaze sharpened.
"Should we call the medic?"
For a brief second, Helios felt annoyance crawl beneath his skin.
Not just toward them.
But also because of the interruption.
Toward the fact that Ezra was supposed to be inside the palace by now.
Safely behind locked doors.
With him.
Just the two of them sharing their warmth.
Helios had to take a deep breath.
"No need, Ezra is fine, he simply—"
"I’ll go call Captain Aamon!"
Friendrinn exclaimed before Helios could even finish.
The knight immediately turned around and started jogging away, not bothering to hear the rest of the explanation.
"No, it’s—"
For the first time that night, Helios panicked.
His composure shattered.
Everything had been going perfectly.
Perfectly.
And now it was all slipping through his fingers.
Before he could stop Friendrinn, another disaster struck.
Leomord suddenly dashed toward him.
"Let me carry him, Your Highness."
The words barely registered before Leomord’s hands were already reaching for Ezra.
Practically taking him straight from Helios’ arms.
For a split second, Helios tightened his grip.
Instinctively.
Possessively.
His entire body screamed at him not to let go.
Not to surrender him.
Not now.
Not after everything.
Helios wanted to stop him.
He wanted to step back.
He wanted to pull Ezra closer.
He wanted to grab the sword hanging at his waist and slice Leomord’s arms off before they could touch him again.
The thought came so naturally that it frightened even him.
Yet his expression never changed.
Not when Friendrinn was already running off to find Aamon.
Not when Leomord was standing right in front of him.
Not when Fizzy was watching from the palace gates.
Helios was at a loss.
For perhaps the first time in years, he genuinely didn’t know what to do.
So he let go.
Slowly.
Reluctantly.
His hands loosened around Ezra.
And just like that, Leomord took him.
The empty feeling that followed was immediate.
Awful.
As though something had been ripped away from him.
"I’m sure Captain Ezra would’ve hated to wake up knowing you carried him," Leomord said casually as he adjusted Ezra in his arms. "He respects you too much, Prince Helios."
The words were meant kindly.
Helios knew they were.
That somehow only made them worse.
From the corner of his eye, he caught Fizzy staring at him from the palace entrance.
The servant’s smile had completely disappeared.
In its place was concern.
Worry.
Fizzy knew him too well.
Knew exactly how close Helios was to snapping.
’I want to kill him.’
The thought came instantly.
Cold.
Certain.
’Give Ezra back.’
Helios forced himself to breathe.
In.
Out.
In.
Out.
"It’s fine, I was doing very well with—"
"May I ask what happened?"
Leomord interrupted.
His gaze remained fixed on Ezra’s sleeping face.
The concern there was genuine.
Real.
Which only made Helios dislike him more.
"It’s unlike him to pass out like this," Leomord continued quietly. "I’m worried and I think it’s strange."
Helios felt his stomach tighten.
Of course Leomord would notice.
Ezra wasn’t someone who collapsed randomly.
He was stubborn.
Annoyingly resilient.
The type of person who would continue working while bleeding if nobody physically stopped him.
Anyone close to him would know that.
And Leomord was close to him.
Far closer than Helios liked.
’Stop looking at him.’
Leomord gently adjusted Ezra’s head so it rested more comfortably against his shoulder.
Helios nearly lost whatever restraint he had left.
’Stop touching him.’
"Your Highness?"
Leomord glanced toward him.
But now with curiosity.
No...
This time Leomord looks at him suspiciously.
’Why is he looking at me like that?’
