Chapter 152: Chapter 152: She Also Participated in Drugging Leila Jennings
Leila Jennings felt her description was perfectly accurate.
But when Sean Sinclair saw the two words, "your Lover," he found them jarring.
He zoomed in on the photo. It was indeed Cecilia Sinclair and Sarah Lynch, both a complete, disheveled mess.
His call reached Sarah Lynch moments later.
"Cecilia came looking for you? Are you okay?"
"Sean..." Sarah Lynch’s eyes welled with tears. She sniffled, forcing back the pain. "I’m okay. I just ache a little. Cecilia didn’t mean it... and Leila Jennings is here too."
Those last two sentences all but spelled out that Leila Jennings had provoked Cecilia into attacking her.
Sean knew Leila was there; she was the one who’d sent him the photo.
He’d changed his number countless times recently, only to be blocked every time. This latest one hadn’t been blocked yet, and he wasn’t sure if he should feel grateful for it.
"I’ll be right there."
His voice was a mixture of resignation and anxiety.
After hanging up, he texted Leila Jennings, telling her not to leave The Aquarina and to wait for him.
The message failed to send.
He’d been blocked again.
He hadn’t even managed to win Leila back, and now his own sister was stirring up more trouble.
And this time, it was Sarah Lynch she’d beaten up.
’Why did she have to hit her?’
When Cecilia Sinclair saw that her brother had called Sarah Lynch first, she decided she needed backup too and called their mother.
Mrs. Sinclair and Sean arrived one after the other.
Downstairs, he could only see Sarah Lynch and Cecilia; Leila was nowhere in sight.
Leila was still refusing to even see him. Sean sighed to himself.
The moment Sarah Lynch saw Sean, tears started to fall. She was about to throw herself into his arms, but she stopped short when she met Mrs. Sinclair’s resentful glare.
Cecilia had told her that the entire Sinclair family now knew how much money Sean had spent on her over the years.
"What do you think you’re doing, coming here and starting a fight?" Mrs. Sinclair walked over to her daughter, giving her a single sharp glare before saying no more.
Cecilia planted her hands on her hips. "I was furious! My brother gives her three million a month. Has he lost his mind?"
Sean’s expression darkened.
"Cecilia, watch your mouth."
Mrs. Sinclair glared at him. "Talk to your own family properly. Stop trying to defend an outsider."
’Not so long ago, it was always "Dear Sarah," and now she was an "outsider."’
He walked over to Sarah, noticing the bruise on her forehead, the red marks on her neck, and the scratches on the back of her hand.
Sean frowned.
"Does it hurt anywhere else?"
"My stomach and my lower back hurt a bit." Sarah had just tried to move and found she couldn’t. She must have hit it on something, but she couldn’t remember what.
Cecilia was well-built, and getting rammed by her felt nearly fatal. The worst part was when she got on top of her and beat her senseless.
’If she didn’t have leverage over Cecilia, she would never have let her get away with this.’
Sean frowned. There was a hint of concern in his eyes, but not much. He kept glancing around.
’He was looking for Leila.’
But there wasn’t a sign of her.
"We’re going to the hospital. Cecilia, you too. You both need a full check-up." Sean looked at his sister. "After that, you and I are going to have a talk."
"Have a talk about what? How much of your money have I spent? Do *I* get three million a month? You’re my big brother! Even if you did give me three million a month, you should!"
"That’s enough, Cecilia." Mrs. Sinclair took her daughter’s hand. "Why are we fighting amongst ourselves? We should present a united front to outsiders. Listen to your brother. Let’s get you checked out at the hospital first, just to make sure there are no lasting injuries."
"As for everything else..." Her gaze fell on Sarah Lynch, instantly turning icy. "We’ll deal with that later."
In that instant, Sarah Lynch’s plan to win over Sean’s parents and sister completely evaporated.
Sean was already torn between her and Leila, and Leila had never won the Sinclair family’s affection.
She had thought that by winning over his family, she could smoothly pave the way to marrying Sean.
But now Sean was clearly leaning toward Leila.
And the Sinclairs were no longer looking at her with any kindness.
’How could she possibly turn this situation around?’
Sarah’s own heart was heavy with worry.
"Let’s go. To the hospital." Sean led the way, making no move to carry Sarah or help her up. His eyes continued to scan their surroundings.
Still no sign of her.
Sarah Lynch remained where she stood. "Sean, I don’t think I can walk. Can you carry me?"
Cecilia spat, "Shameless."
She was acting just like a fan who’d turned into a vicious anti-fan.
And they’re always the most vicious.
But Sarah Lynch truly couldn’t walk. Every inch of her body ached.
Sean said, "Our situation is very precarious right now. You know that."
’Sarah knew he was talking about being photographed, about the evidence of their affair. But a few intimate photos would only be considered evidence of a simple affair—a moral failing, perhaps, but weak evidence. It would be useless in court.’
’She’d looked into it.’
But she didn’t want to upset Sean any further, so she gritted her teeth against the pain and forced herself to follow.
Cecilia, looking smug, deliberately said loud enough for Sarah to hear, "Mom, I still think Leila was a better sister-in-law."
Sarah’s expression soured.
Mrs. Sinclair’s face fell as well. "That’s enough. Not another word."
’She knew Leila was better than Sarah, but what good did that do now!’
’They were already divorced!’
’She and her husband still hadn’t dared to bring it up with their son.’
’Agreeing to the divorce between Leila and Sean was the biggest mistake she and her husband had ever made.’
The four of them got into a car and headed for the hospital.
Cecilia seemed to be fine. She just had a preliminary examination before sitting down in the waiting area.
Sarah, on the other hand, was covered in bruises from being knocked around on the ground.
She was still having her wounds treated.
Sean came out first. Seeing his sister’s nonchalant expression, he asked, "After all these years, you still haven’t grown out of this habit of cursing and fighting, have you?"
"Well, it’s not like I beat up a good person this time," Cecilia said bluntly. "She’s a homewrecker! The kind who just leeches off a man’s hard-earned money!"
"Cecilia." Sean didn’t want to hear that word. "Don’t talk nonsense. The money isn’t what you all think it is. I was at fault too; it wasn’t just her."
"Of course you were at fault," Mrs. Sinclair said, her voice filled with exasperation. "What were you thinking? Even if you were going to give her money, you couldn’t give her everything! Do you have any idea what kind of life our family has been living these past few years? Compared to other families with our level of assets, our lifestyles are worlds apart!"
"We all thought it was Leila’s fault. We all blamed her because of it."
Sean’s heart sank at the mention of Leila’s name.
"She resents me too."
Cecilia couldn’t care less who Leila resented. She only had one thing on her mind.
"You need to make Sarah Lynch give all that money back. I have to go abroad next spring. Most of my friends are already studying overseas, and I’m the only one left. They’re always making snide remarks about it."
’The money’s already been spent. It wasn’t something you could just get back for the asking.’
Sean also disliked his sister’s obsession with money. He said, "The money is my business. Whether I get it back or not has nothing to do with you."
"Then it should at least have something to do with Leila, right?" Cecilia stood up, acting as if she was about to go find her. "I refuse to believe she’d just stand by and watch her own husband’s money be spent on a homewrecker."
"Don’t use that word," Sean said sternly. "And don’t you dare go bother Leila."
Cecilia defied him. "Homewrecker, homewrecker, homewrecker..."
SLAP.
Sean slapped his sister.
Cecilia’s ears were ringing from the blow. "You hit me! You hit your own sister for that homewrecker!"
"What makes her so special that you’d side with her and turn on your own family? You think she’s some kind of saint?"
"I’m telling you! She was involved in that incident where Leila was drugged and almost assaulted! She was the one who recommended the drug to me! She’s the one who found the man!"
