Chapter 169: Chapter 100: "Pull a Big One
CLANG CLANG, CLANG CLANG...
The train moved steadily along the tracks, the friction between wheels and rails producing a rhythmic, metallic sound.
Inside the car, Sean’s eyes flew open. Staring at the ceiling, both strange and familiar, he breathed a long, internal sigh of relief.
Elvire woke up at the same moment.
The first thing Sean did was sit up straight and ask her, "Are you hurt?"
Elvire gently shook her head. "No."
"Logging off" was the most efficient and reliable way to escape.
Robes’s power had far exceeded their expectations. No one had anticipated that the Clan Leader of the Florist Family was actually a genuine Grand Mage. The great net woven from Puppet Strings had almost no blind spots; a Tier Three and a Tier Five couldn’t possibly break a Grand Mage’s technique by force. If they had been there in person, they really would have fallen into Robes’s hands this time.
Fortunately, they weren’t.
This was also why Robes couldn’t detect the slightest fluctuation of Magic Power.
After all, "logging off" wasn’t Magic, nor did it require a Spell. As long as they wanted to leave, no one could stop them.
Only Kate, who didn’t want to leave, and Sopea, who faced Robes directly, took the full brunt of the attack.
Seeing that Sean’s first thought upon waking was to worry about her, Elvire felt a sweet warmth bloom in her chest. But now was clearly not the time for romantic sentiments. The New World wasn’t just surprising in its "construction"; the people within it also filled them with immense confusion.
Was the so-called Consciousness Riverbed truly the same as the Real World?
If so, why could someone reach Tier Seven through Cultivation, master a Forbidden Spell, and become a Grand Mage?
"Should we go check on their injuries first?" Elvire suggested.
Sean nodded. "Okay."
He moved his legs, getting out of bed to put on his shoes.
Because of their positions, the soles of their feet were touching. As Sean moved, his toes unavoidably brushed against the arch of the young woman’s foot. A tingling, electric sensation made her shudder, and with a faint blush, she shot a glare at Sean.
’She suspected the guy did it on purpose.’
Sean, for his part, was completely innocent.
It was just a normal movement to get out of bed; he hadn’t even noticed he’d touched her foot.
’No wonder it felt so soft and springy. Even through her thin sock, he could feel the smoothness of the arch of her foot.’
After putting on their shoes, the two left the room and knocked on Sopea’s door.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.
"How are you two doing?"
Sopea: "..."
Kate: "..."
To be honest, not well.
An accident in the Meditation World could indeed cause mental trauma, just like being flung away by a statue in the Void Technique Space. What was worse, this time they hadn’t just been flung away; they had been killed outright by Robes. The resulting mental trauma was unprecedentedly severe. When they first logged off, their minds were buzzing. To put it simply, Robes had beaten them completely numb—the "general anesthesia" kind of numb.
This level of mental trauma could damage the nerves. The two of them had been sitting on the floor "meditating" for a long time, yet they were still like people in a vegetative state, their bodies completely numb and unable to move an inch.
They looked like two old monks forced into a deep trance.
The only thing they could do was open their eyes and stare blankly at each other.
Seeing no movement from inside the room, Sean grew worried something had happened to them. "I’m coming in," he announced.
Sopea: "..."
Kate: "..."
’No!’
’He really didn’t want anyone, especially an acquaintance, to see him in this "fully paralyzed" state. It was so humiliating.’
’He was the famous Light Attendant, invincible as long as there was light!’
’But this time, he had actually died in the light.’
Unfortunately, the door wasn’t locked.
Sopea had locked the door at first to keep anyone from interrupting his "education" of Kate. But later, after logging off to prove his identity to Sean, his mind had been so preoccupied with the New World that he’d forgotten to lock it again.
Sean and Elvire pushed the door open and entered.
They relaxed when they saw both men had their eyes open.
"As long as you’re okay," Sean said.
Sopea: "..."
Kate: "..."
The two remained silent.
Sean was puzzled. "Why aren’t you talking?"
The two of them: "..."
’We can’t.’
’Our tongues are still numb.’
Sean grew tense again. "They weren’t beaten stupid, were they?"
Kate: "..."
’You’re the one who’s been beaten stupid!’
Sopea, however, closed his eyes in shame.
’Back then, he’d been thinking about the rare order he’d received from Lord Blake, eager to make a good impression, but instead he’d been insta-killed with a single finger...’
’He had no face to show Lord Blake.’
The commotion attracted the attention of Elise and the others in the small dining car. The three women came over, drawn by the sound. Yisha and Koni both looked weary, as if they hadn’t fully woken up.
"How did it go?" Elise asked.
Elvire shook her head. "It had no effect."
Whether you were killed or you escaped on your own, it still meant the Meditation had failed. And a failure naturally yielded no "experience."
Elise was slightly taken aback. "How could that be?"
"Is dual Meditation that difficult?"
"It’s a bit complicated," Sean said.
They still couldn’t determine the difficulty of dual... no, of multi-person Meditation.
In terms of difficulty, their enemy was a Grand Mage, so yes, it was difficult—absurdly so. Even if all of them teamed up to take on Robes, the most likely outcome would be total annihilation.
The gap between a Tier Seven and the Wizards below that rank was just too vast; it couldn’t be overcome with a few extra people and a single Forbidden Meditation Technique.
But from another perspective, they had brought this trouble on themselves by going to the Florist Family.
If they had just focused on finding the object representing cell autophagy, they might not have had to face a final boss like Robes.
So, was it actually difficult... It was hard to say.
That wasn’t important for now, anyway.
"Let’s talk in the dining car?" Sean suggested.
