Chapter 154: Chapter 93: Deeply Sinful Blake (2)

"What does the era matter when you’re infamous for eternity?"

Klintor sneered. "On the contrary, the fact that people still loathe him so much hundreds of years later is proof enough of how hateful his deeds were."

Sean: "For example?"

"There are too many to list," Klintor said. "He used his high Tier to ignore the Empire’s laws and act with impunity, forcibly occupying Kovri City near the Holy City and proclaiming it the Wizard Holy Land. But let’s set all that aside. I’ll tell you just one thing."

In Klintor’s eyes, many of Blake’s supposed crimes weren’t all that serious—certainly not enough to earn him eternal infamy. But this one particular act made him despise Blake from the depths of his soul. It wasn’t just him; even convicts in prison would sneer at the mention of such a person.

"He violated the Church Saintess," Klintor said.

Sean: "?"

Elvire: "?"

"That’s bullshit!"

Elvire couldn’t take it anymore.

She might not have liked Blake, but no matter what, he was family—her sister’s husband. To Wizards, he was a pioneer, a great figure who had advanced the field of Mysticism. How could she stand by and let someone slander him like this?

’Blake might have been a bit of a dirtbag—fickle, with his head always in the clouds, and not very responsible, completely absorbed in his academic research day in and day out—but to say he would force himself on a woman... Impossible!’

Back then, countless beautiful women threw themselves at him, and he turned them all down. Why would he ever need to force himself on anyone?

Let alone the Saintess.

From what she had heard from her sister, it was more likely the Saintess had forced herself on Blake.

Sean’s expression darkened. "Who told you these things?"

’There’s a limit to making up lies like that.’

"Are you trying to say this is all fake? Just because it’s different from what you know?" Klintor’s tone was mocking. "Are you really that stupid, or are you just pretending? If you were Carl Black, would you tell your own disciples the truth about these things?"

"Enough of this nonsense," Sean said. "Answer my question."

"He’s been infamous for ages; of course it’s been recorded in the annals of history. Why don’t you just go find a history book and read it for yourself?" Klintor looked at Sean with pity. ’It seems this young man has been thoroughly deceived.’

But in reality...

He was the one who had been deceived.

Sean asked again, "Which version of the history books? Who published them?"

Only then did Klintor belatedly realize. "Are you trying to get information out of me?"

A fierce light shone in Elvire’s eyes. "Stop changing the subject! Tell us who it was!"

"What good would it do to tell you?" Klintor sneered. "The books are published by the Church Court. What can you possibly do about it?"

History books fell under the "educational" category. Books like these, which concerned the future of the Empire, had always been written by the Church Court itself. No one else had the authority.

"What, you want to ’exonerate’ Carl Black?"

"You two have really been badly deceived."

Klintor said sympathetically, "Instead of being used by the Holy Sanctuary and sent to your deaths as pawns, you should listen to my advice. Before things get out of hand, it might not be too late to turn back."

"First, you let me go and come with me to surrender to the Church Court. I can try to put in a good word for you."

"Especially you, little girl."

Klintor spoke to Elvire meaningfully, "You represent the entire Blazing Angel Family. Your problem is the Blazing Angel Family’s problem. Regardless of whether you were acting under your family’s orders, I think... you wouldn’t want to see your family dragged down because of you, right?"

His answer was the young woman’s Giant Sword.

"THWACK!"

"AH!"

Klintor was knocked unconscious by a single smack from the flat of Elvire’s sword.

’What kind of creep was he, talking to me in that tone?’

Seeing that things had gone south and that even their leader was no match for the two Heretics, the surrounding soldiers were already looking for a chance to slip away.

But it wouldn’t be that easy.

"Credor!"

Sean uttered a Spell, attaching it to the Technique. The Golden Matrix that had originally only trapped Klintor instantly expanded, enclosing everyone inside. Sean rounded them all up, trussed them up, and locked them in the basement of a nearby house.

You can’t just question one person.

Neither he nor Elvire knew Mind Magic, so they couldn’t be sure if Klintor was lying. Their only option was to question the men in batches and cross-reference their "testimonies."

The results were all consistent.

In their minds—or rather, in those history books—Carl Black was truly a deeply sinful heretical leader.

He seized cities and violated the Saintess, like a Great Demon King who committed every evil imaginable.

He was also the type to whitewash his actions in the name of "truth." To quote the history books directly: "Deeply calculating and treacherously cunning."

Sean: "..."

He felt an urge to hit someone.

Elvire was also fuming. "How can a Meditation World be so infuriating?" she complained.

A moment ago, she’d had the overwhelming urge to tear Klintor limb from limb.

If Blake was the great villain who had violated the Saintess, then wouldn’t her sister, who had allowed Blake to meet with the Saintess, be an accomplice?

Now that was a true insult.

"I want to go tear down the Church Court," Elvire said angrily.

They were just in a Meditation, anyway. No matter what trouble they caused, the worst that could happen was the Meditation failing.

It wasn’t like they expected to succeed in the first place. They had to let off some steam today.

Sean, however—Blake himself—was the calmer one. "Let’s not be hasty," he said.

The interrogated soldiers were put back together, all knocked unconscious. Sean looked at the soldiers lying higgledy-piggledy before him, their faces peaceful in sleep, and his brow furrowed deeply.

He felt something was wrong.

"Do you know anything about Dream Science?" Sean asked her.

Elvire shook her head, confused. "Why are you suddenly asking about this?"

"Because I feel that the Meditation World is very similar to a dream," Sean said. "They are both constructed from a person’s perceptions and memories."

Elvire: "So?"

Sean: "So something isn’t right about this."

He pulled her to a corner, glanced at the soldiers, and whispered, "Think carefully. In your perception, is Lord Blake the kind of person they described?"

"Of course not," Elvire said. ’Otherwise, my sister would never have fallen for him.’

Sean: "He isn’t in my perception either."

"Then if both of our perceptions of Lord Blake are good, why did a negative version of history appear?"

It didn’t make sense logically.

This wasn’t a question of where this version of history came from, but a problem with the content of this "New World."

If before, having only seen the unfamiliar Klintor and his men, Sean couldn’t be entirely sure, now he was almost certain—the "New World" contained things that existed outside of his and Elvire’s perceptions.

Elvire quickly caught on. "Are you trying to say that this isn’t just a dream... no, not just a Meditation World?"

Sean nodded. "Right. At least, it’s not a Meditation World that belongs exclusively to the two of us."

Otherwise, this "dark history" of Carl Black wouldn’t exist.

So, theoretically, among the Wizards who constituted this "New World," there was at least one hater.

But this contradicted what was written in the Book of Ancient Language.

This was a two-person Meditation, not a multi-person one. Where would other Wizards come from?

It was very strange.

At that moment, Sean really missed Sopea.

Sopea was an expert in Dream Science, and since the "New World" had much in common with dreams, he might have been able to see what was going on.

Elvire, on the other hand, fell silent.

She was also thinking about the problem in her own way.

The air in the room suddenly became exceptionally quiet.

Until a knock on the door sounded.

"KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK."

Sean: "?"

Elvire: "?"

Both of them were lost in thought and assumed they had misheard.

But the person outside knocked again.

"KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK."

They exchanged a glance, instantly on alert.

Elvire gestured for Sean to step back while she moved to the door.

"Who is it?"

A familiar yet eerie voice came from outside the door.

"It’s me, Sopea."
