Chapter 149: Chapter 91: "I found them!
"Run!"
Faced with the soldiers who had suddenly appeared, Elvire was still wondering if the Meditation World had Witch Hunters, too. She frowned, preparing to see just how strong these guys with their domineering tone were, but Sean grabbed her wrist, spun her around, and took off running.
"Hey, wait..."
"Can’t wait. If we do, we’re dead."
Elvire: "..."
"Get them!"
The man shouted harshly.
The soldiers swarmed forward.
Wind seemed to gather at their feet as a faint, cyan glow spiraled around each of them.
Elvire was stunned. "They’re all Wizards?"
’Using Wizards as common soldiers... What family could be so "wealthy"?’
The soldiers ran at extreme speed.
But no matter how fast they were, they couldn’t catch Sean.
They all knew Magic, but Sean knew the paths better.
These soldiers were normally only responsible for patrolling the streets and rarely set foot in the ruins. This place, on the other hand, was Sean’s "home turf." While he was previously stuck in the statue, he had explored the entire Holy Sanctuary ruins and now easily shook off the soldiers trailing them.
He led her on a winding path, from the Holy Temple Square to the living quarters, from the living quarters to the teaching area, and from the teaching area to the back garden. Finally, he and Elvire slipped out a side door and ducked into an old house in a small alley.
The entire escape route and process felt so impeccably smooth to Elvire that she couldn’t help but ask, "Why are you so good at this?"
The Sanctuary of Truth was huge, and so much had changed. If it had been up to her, she would have most likely gotten lost, and she certainly wouldn’t have shaken off the soldiers and escaped so easily. Not to mention that after getting out, Sean had precisely located a deserted alley and an empty house.
The house was filled with dust and spider webs. When Elvire stepped on the floor, it had the soft, yielding feel of walking on snow, a testament to how thick the dust was and how long the house had been unoccupied.
Sean bolted the door from the inside and tiptoed over to draw the curtains before finally answering Elvire. "You might not believe this, but I’ve been here before."
Actually, Elvire believed him.
Sean was too familiar with this place; having been here before was the only explanation.
Even if Sean hadn’t said anything, she would have guessed he’d been here before.
Until she asked, "So where is this place? Why are the ruins of the Holy Sanctuary here?"
Sean said, "Because this is Kovri."
Elvire: "?"
"Impossible!"
"Why is it impossible?"
Sean asked, puzzled, "Isn’t the Hall of Truth supposed to be in Kovri City?"
"No," Elvire said. "What I mean is, it’s impossible for *you* to have been to Kovri City."
To be precise, impossible for him to have been to a Kovri City that looks like this.
Sean brought up his old excuse again. "Like I said, Lord Blake brought me here once."
"Give me a break." Elvire wasn’t buying it. "Before we came out this time, you were in the hospital the whole time. You didn’t go anywhere. Are you trying to say Blake told you this in a dream again?"
"How else?"
"Then why doesn’t he send *me* a dream?" Elvire had wanted to ask this for a long time.
In terms of their relationship, she and Blake were the "closest." And yet, as her brother-in-law, Blake hadn’t even recognized her when he appeared at the Dawn Conference last time. Instead, he constantly trusted Sean, telling him everything. This made it hard for her not to suspect something fishy was going on between Sean and Blake.
Sean finally understood. On the surface, Elvire was saying she didn’t believe he’d been to Kovri, but she was actually probing, trying to figure out the real relationship between him and Blake.
’Is that something I can just talk about?’
"You’d have to ask him." Sean spread his hands, his expression innocent. "I have no idea what Lord Blake is thinking, either."
Elvire scoffed. "Hah."
"Just keep playing dumb."
There were truly many suspicious things about Sean.
Not his motives, but his identity.
First, his "Talent" was unbelievably high. He advanced Tiers faster than even she did, which meant Sean must have been terrifyingly strong before his re-sculpting—at least a Tier Ten. And any Tier Ten couldn’t possibly be a nobody; her past self would have definitely known him.
Second, Sean’s Magic was strange, yet it felt very familiar to her, which also suggested they had known each other before—or at least met and interacted.
Furthermore, Sean’s relationship with Blake was also thought-provoking.
If Sean had been a woman, she would have suspected his true identity was her sister, Daeli, or perhaps Saintess Olivia. Otherwise, why would Blake care so much about him?
Everything pointed to one conclusion for Elvire: this guy, Sean, was far from simple. In fact, you could say he had a very significant background.
But Sean was being deliberately secretive and wouldn’t tell her anything.
Whenever she asked, his excuse was that he couldn’t remember either.
But didn’t Sopea build him a dream last time to help him find memories of his past life?
Elvire was pretty sure the guy was deliberately refusing to tell her.
But it didn’t matter.
Sean had successfully piqued her interest.
As her own memories returned, she knew that one day, she would personally peel away this man’s disguise, layer by layer, to see what great secret he was truly hiding.
"Where are they? Where’d they run off to?"
"Split up and search. I’ll take some men this way, you search over there."
"Right!"
Standing by the window, Sean heard the soldiers’ voices from outside.
He shot a look at Elvire, who was by the bed, signaling for her to be quiet.
Once the footsteps faded into the distance, he spoke in a low voice, "Sounds like they’re gone. Let’s continue."
Elvire didn’t pick up their previous conversation, asking instead, "Why didn’t you let me fight back then?"
They were just a bunch of small fry; there was no need for them to run at all.
