Chapter 552: The Queen Who Wants to Find the Truth (II)

Nina sucked in a sharp breath. She looked extremely unwilling to answer that question.

Unfortunately for her, Primrose showed no sign of backing down. Her eyes remained fixed on Nina, silently waiting.

In the end, Nina gave in. "Do you know anything about the fifteen Gods who suddenly vanished within a single week?"

Primrose had expected the conversation to head in that direction, so she wasn’t particularly surprised. "Yes," she replied. "I know about them."

Nina hesitated for a moment before speaking again. "My family... might be descendants of the priest who once guarded the temple of Nythar, the God of Dreams."

Primrose narrowed her eyes slightly. "He still exists, doesn’t he? He doesn’t have many temples, but I remember seeing one dedicated to him in the Vellmoria Empire."

"Yes, that’s right." Nina nodded. "Nythar isn’t one of the Gods who vanished. He’s much older than they are. Because of that, he holds knowledge of both the dreams of the past and the dreams of the present."

Her expression grew serious. "He knows better than anyone that if even one of those fifteen Gods manages to awaken, their anger alone could bring disaster to the entire continent."

"That’s why I don’t serve Nythar as some devoted follower," Nina continued. "I simply help him because our goals are the same. Neither of us wants those Gods to wake up."

"But the worst part is that some of the New Gods, along with the Gods who didn’t disappear back then, are angry as well after learning that someone managed to kill Gods," Nina said. "I don’t know who that person is, but Nythar told me that some of the Gods have already sensed that person’s presence. Ever since then, they’ve started releasing negative energy."

Primrose went silent for a moment. She couldn’t help but remember the day Seradiel, the God of Fortune, had cursed not only her name but also her unborn child.

"If the Gods find that person, would they curse them?" Primrose asked quietly.

Nina nodded. "There’s a very high chance they would."

Primrose lowered her gaze for a second before looking at Nina again. "Do you think..." Her voice became more serious. "They would also hate the descendants of that Godslayer?"

Nina hesitated. "I heard from Nythar that the Godslayer is destined to watch their loved ones die, even after they had reincarnated several times," she said slowly. "As for their descendants... I’m not sure."

She paused before continuing. "But if the Gods truly hate the Godslayer that much, then I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them also held a grudge against the Godslayer’s bloodline."

Primrose took a deep breath before asking the question that had been on her mind. "Do you have any idea who the Godslayer is?"

Nina shook her head almost immediately. "No, I’m sorry, Your Majesty. Nythar won’t tell me either." She let out a small sigh. "He said they have to remember it on their own."

"I see." Primrose nodded slowly.

For a brief moment, she exchanged a glance with Edmund. He clearly had many of the same questions, but he chose not to speak. There were already too many things to take in, and he didn’t want to overwhelm Primrose any further.

Besides, there was little point in rushing. It would be better to wait until they had more information.

"Do you have any idea whose skull is inside that warehouse?" Primrose asked as she turned her eyes toward the building behind them.

Nina swallowed nervously. "I don’t know, Your Majesty. Nythar only told me that he would explain everything after I’ve seen it with my own eyes."

"Alright, then." Primrose gave a small nod, partly to Nina and partly to herself because she needed a moment to calm her thoughts as well.

"Let’s go inside." She paused before adding, "But I want to make one thing clear. We are not going to do anything reckless. We’re only going to look at it from a distance."

Her gaze settled firmly on Nina. "Do you understand, Lady Nina?"

Nina nodded without hesitation. "I understand, Your Majesty."

After hearing Nina’s answer, Primrose started walking toward the warehouse. Before she could step inside, however, Edmund gently caught her wrist. "Let me go in first," he said firmly.

Primrose did not argue because this was something they had done countless times before. Whenever there was even the slightest chance of danger, Edmund would always place himself between her and it.

[This place is so cold,] Nina thought as they entered the warehouse.

The building had originally been used to store food supplies, so there was no heating furnace inside. More than that, Leofric had never bothered to install one because he had long grown used to the cold.

"It doesn’t look as frightening as it did the first time," Primrose murmured. Her golden eyes settled on the skull resting in the center of the warehouse.

The skull sat on top of a wooden table, protected inside a clear glass case and strange ancient symbols had been carved across the top of the case, seemingly by Leofric himself.

"Is that a protection spell?" Primrose asked from where she stood, meanwhile, Edmund had already moved much closer to inspect the skull.

He studied the symbols for a moment before nodding. "Yes. It seems to be."

Primrose turned to Nina. "Now that you’ve seen the skull, what do you plan to do, Lady Nina?"

Nina swallowed hard. Her eyes remained fixed on the skull, but her feet refused to move. Ever since entering the warehouse, she had stayed near the doorway as if an invisible force was keeping her there.

"It looks... interesting," Nina said in a low voice.

[Interesting, my ass! That damn skull is giving off so much negative energy!] Nina screamed in her mind. [But... why do I feel two different energies coming from that skull?]

Nina frowned slightly. [Maybe I’m imagining things.]

"Do you want to destroy it the same way you ’accidentally’ destroyed my music box?" Primrose asked.

Nina let out an awkward chuckle. "No, Your Majesty. I don’t think destroying this one would be a good idea."

"Then what should we do?"

Nina placed a hand under her chin and stared at the skull for a long moment. "To be honest... I don’t know yet," she admitted. "I mainly wanted to confirm whether this was the object I was looking for, and now I’m sure it is."

Her expression slowly turned serious. "That’s exactly why we need to be careful with it. Whatever this thing is, it’s important."
