Chapter 246: Chapter 246: Shifting Horizons

"Thanks for the advice," said Alexander, nodding as he finished his soda. "And if you don’t mind me asking, what exactly are you building back there in the lab?"

"I’m trying to synthesize an imitation of Stephen’s combat stimulant," said Marcus, a dark, ambitious glint flashing in his eyes. "A long time ago, I managed to steal a small vial of it, so I’ve been trying to replicate the formula ever since. However, even after all this time and all the money I’ve poured into this equipment, I haven’t been able to duplicate a single drop. Whatever that liquid actually is, I don’t think it belongs to this world."

"You’re actively stealing their secrets," said Alexander, his eyes narrowing slightly.

"Exactly," said Marcus, leaning forward. "That’s why I told you that just by standing in this room, they could hunt you down without mercy to keep you silent. I have a few other projects running, but for the time being, there’s nothing else you need to know. Come on, I’ll drive you back, but take this with you first."

Marcus reached into his pocket and handed him a very small, amber glass bottle filled with a thick, glowing yellow liquid.

"This will help Aria heal," said Marcus, closing Alexander’s fingers over the vial. "At the very least, it will close up her superficial wounds and stop the bleeding. It won’t regenerate her missing or deep tissues, but it will at least make her feel a little bit less like shit."

"Thanks, man," said Alexander, holding the vial tightly.

"Don’t mention it," said Marcus, patting his shoulder. "If I manage to get my hands on another medical token before you do, I’ll just give it to you."

Alexander didn’t say thank you again. The two men simply shared a firm, heavy handshake; between men who understand each other, no more words than necessary are required.

They left the warehouse, got back into the Hellcat, and Marcus drove him back through the city in silence. When Alexander arrived back at the Gable estate, the main courtyard was already teeming with construction workers rapidly repairing the smashed security gates. The remaining personal guards looked tense the moment they spotted him walking up the driveway, but nobody dared to provoke the walking disaster. They simply stood aside and let him pass, wanting him out of their sight as quickly as possible.

Alexander climbed the grand staircase and walked straight back into the dim master bedroom. He approached the mattress, pulled out the amber vial, and carefully helped Aria swallow the thick yellow fluid.

"It’s a medicine," said Alexander, his voice low and gentle as he wiped a stray tear from her cheek. "It’s going to help you right now. Listen to me, Aria. You will get your old body back, I swear it to you. Just give me some time, and please, don’t do anything stupid while I’m gone. Do you trust me?"

"Yes..." whispered Aria, her weak voice barely carrying across the quiet room.

"Do you trust me enough to give me control of your life?" asked Alexander, staring deeply into the small gaps of her facial bandages.

Inside his chest, Alexander felt a heavy, suffocating wave of dread. Looking at her glazed, hollow stare, he could tell that she secretly wanted to die. Her eyes didn’t lie. She was so broken that if he didn’t give her a reason to hold on, she would probably find a way to end her own life the moment he turned his back. He needed to plant a burning seed of hope inside her soul—the certainty that everything was going to be fine.

Aria remained silent, her blank stare locked onto the ceiling as if her mind were a thousand miles away.

"I know Joseph and Mrs Gable tried to buy TMC’s help," said Alexander, leaning closer until his face was just inches from her bandages, his voice filled with an unshakeable conviction. "But they don’t care about their millions. I can get their help, Aria. I can obtain the exact medical token needed to fix your body. I just have to complete a few high-level missions to earn the necessary rewards to cure you. So you just have to give me enough time to get them. Before you even realize it, I’ll be back with the cure. Just promise me you won’t do something stupid while I’m out there."

Aria didn’t speak a single word, but a heavy, warm tear slowly seeped out from beneath the thick gauze covering her eye, rolling down into the bandages.

"Everything is going to be fine, just trust me," said Alexander, standing up straight as he gave her hand one final, gentle squeeze.

He turned on his heel and walked out of the room, knowing it was better not to press her any further in her fragile state. As he descended the stairs and walked out toward his silver Tahoe, he spotted Evelyn Gable and her younger daughter, Serena, standing near the driveway.

"How is my godmother?" asked Serena, her eyes red and puffy as she stepped forward.

"Aria is going to be fine," said Alexander, stopping in front of them with a serious, focused expression. "I just brought her something that will help ease her pain. Take good care of her. I have to go out there and complete some missions for the organization, but I am certain I can get TMC to treat her. I just hope to god she doesn’t do anything foolish before I get back."

Hearing his words, Serena and Evelyn reached for each other, wrapping their arms around one another as they began to softly sob in relief.

"Well, I have to go," said Alexander, looking down at his car keys. "There’s still enough time today to start earning points. I need to secure everything as quickly as possible."

"I... I am sorry for slapping you earlier," said Mrs. Gable, her voice cracking as she looked up at him with a look of genuine regret.

"I should be the one apologizing," said Alexander, a faint, weary sigh escaping his lips. "I behaved like a idiot. I’ve been unstable lately."

Evelyn stepped forward, offering him a brief, emotional embrace of gratitude. After a few parting words and a final nod to Serena, Alexander climbed into his Tahoe, started the heavy engine, and tore out of the estate, his mind locked onto the grueling climb ahead.
