Chapter 48: it’s fertility herbs meant to make ladies take in quickly.

For the past two days, Kathe had been in the mansion, with the old lady checking in on her and being strict with her medication. Though she missed the office, she decided to stay put for a while so that she could heal in time before the little party.

Rhea herself had not been idle. With Kathe out of the office, she kept finding ways to cling to Jark at every opportunity. She walked into the office carrying a food box. Having learnt from last time, she had made sure that she watched Jark eat her meal before walking out of the office to show off to those little employees who had insulted her the last time.

She frowned the moment she stepped in. "Jark, where are you going this early?" she asked, stealing a glance at her watch.

"The boss has an important business," Thompson replied, his voice devoid of emotion as he eyed Rhea’s hands. He had noticed how Rhea had been forcing herself on his boss lately, making him feel pity for his mistress.

Rhea stared back at him. Of course, she wasn’t stupid. She could hear the disdain in his voice. "I don’t remember asking you any question, Thompson."

Thompson opened his mouth to say something but later closed it back.

Jark raised his face to look at her after picking up his phone. "You’ve gotten the answer already from Thompson, and I didn’t detect any error in his words."

His words made Thompson regain his confidence as he shot a glare at her.

Rhea scratched her head sheepishly. "Hehehe, it’s nothing like that. I just wanted to confirm from you. I brought your meal."

Thompson wanted to speak up for his boss, but Jark beat him to it.

"I’m not hungry. Maybe next time."

She dropped her head down in a pitiful manner that no man could resist. "I just hope that Kathe won’t get angry at me. You know she had asked me to take care of your meal."

Her words made Thompson frown.

’So that’s the lie she had used on the boss.’

Jark frowned as he looked back at his phone, staring at Kathe’s text message.

"Let’s get to the store on time so that we will have enough time to grab a meal together." She attached a cute puppy sticker to the message.

"Did Kathe really ask you to bring me the food?" His aura suddenly turned cold. Even Thompson had to step back a little.

Rhea lifted her face up as she scanned his face, trying to figure out if he had caught on to her lie, but she was met with an icy aura. She quickly looked away. "It’s okay if you don’t want to." She waved her hands at him before rushing out of the office.

Thompson turned to look at Jark, wanting to find out about Rhea’s plot. "Boss."

"Let’s get to the old mansion," Jark brushed him off, knowing what he was about to ask.

"OK." Thompson nodded at him as they both walked out of the office.

Within a few minutes, they got to the old mansion. Surprisingly, Kathe had been standing outside the mansion as she kept peeping around like a naughty child.

On seeing Jark’s car, a bright mischievous smile crept up on her face as she ran toward the car. With Jark’s order, the driver stopped the car. Jark opened the door to enquire about why she was running, but Kathe quickly shoved herself inside the car as she ended up sitting on Jark’s lap.

"What are you waiting for? Can you get the gas moving? Drive!" she yelled at the driver, shutting the door closed.

The driver sensed the urgency in her voice and, also getting some signal from his boss, he quickly drove off from the mansion.

After making sure that the car was out of the mansion, Kathe finally breathed out in relief. She lifted her face up. That was when she noticed that Thompson and the driver were glancing at her with strange looks. At first, she thought it was because of her sudden approach, but when she felt someone’s ticklish breath on her neck, she looked down. It suddenly dawned on her that she was sitting on Jark’s lap.

She quickly jumped off his lap. Her face turned red like a boiling tomato. She felt like finding a hole to hide herself, especially when she saw the strange looks from everyone and Jark’s sly smirk.

"I... it’s not... I... you won’t..." she kept fumbling with her words as she tried to explain that she didn’t mean to sit on the big boss’s lap.

Jark’s smirk grew wider as he watched Kathe try to explain herself, and he found it more amusing as her face got redder every second, trying to avoid everyone’s eyes due to shyness.

"Why did you rush in like that? You didn’t cause any mischief back at the mansion?" Jark asked, raising his eyebrow at her. Recently, she had been caught in a lot of trouble.

Kathe’s face turned sour when she heard his words. He was indirectly implying that she was full of trouble.

"It has nothing to fully do with me this time."

She paused on her words as she couldn’t bring herself to say the embarrassing thing.

Jark raised his eyebrow as he watched her hide her face away out of shyness.

"Then?" he trailed out his words, giving her a go-ahead.

She turned her face away from Jark, looking outside the window. "Grandma tried to force me to take some medication, more like traditional herbs or something."

Jark’s mind wondered what type of medicine his grandma wanted to give Kathe that would make her rush out in such a manner.

"What kind of medicine?"

"More..." She paused, looking for the right word to use before continuing. "Like... it’s fertility herbs meant to make ladies take in quickly." She paused to look at Jark’s expression. He kept his face straight, but she could see his ears turning red from embarrassment. She leaned and lowered her voice a little. "She has yours too. She was actually waiting for you to arrive so that we could both drink the herbs together, but I managed to slip away. Luckily, you arrived at the right time."

She lifted up her face. That was when she noticed that Thompson’s and the driver’s faces were red with embarrassment, meaning that they had clearly heard what she had said. She turned her face stylishly to look at Jark. She caught the man shifting in his seat uncomfortably as he quickly shot a cold glare at Thompson, who returned his focus back to his tablet.

The car was filled with an awkward tension, with none of them saying a word to each other. They all looked out of the window.

The car pulled up at one of the shopping malls. Kathe looked up and noticed that it wasn’t the last one they had gone to. She wanted to ask him a question, but seeing that he was still in a hot seat, she decided to brush off the topic.

After the driver found the perfect spot to park the car, Jark was the first one to get out of the car, with Thompson running after him. Kathe was the third one to step out of the car after calming down her red face. She walked out of the car and found Jark waiting for her a few steps away. She rushed to him, not wanting to keep him waiting.

Jark watched Kathe’s every movement. He noticed that her face had returned back to normal. He was amazed at her quick composure.

They both walked to the entrance. Kathe could not keep her curiosity in check anymore. She suddenly walked closer to him.

"Don’t tell me you have an investment in this mall too?" Her tone was half like a question and half like she had figured it out by herself.

Jark turned to look at her with a smirk. "What do you think?" he decided to tease her a little more.

"Huh?" Kathe turned to him, confused.

Instead of replying to her, he kept a teasing smirk on.

Just then, the door slid open on its own. They were welcomed by an empty mall, with just three people standing at the door to welcome them.

Kathe could remember one of them. She had seen him at the banquet party.

"Welcome, Mr. Quinn. We have been waiting for your arrival," the familiar one said as he welcomed them with a smile.

Jark nodded at him.

They were all beaming with smiles on their faces. It was rare for the big boss to come to the mall on his own.

Kathe, seeing that they were all friendly, decided to greet them too.

"Hi."

They all turned to Kathe, surprised. They were not expecting her to say anything. They all smiled at her in return.

"Come in," one of them ushered them in.

"Mr. Quinn, which department are we heading to first?" one of them turned to ask Jark.

But Thompson replied in place of Jark, "To the female department. Hope everything is in place like we discussed."

"Yes, Thompson. We hope our young lady will love it."

They all walked to the female department, and Kathe made sure to keep her eyes around.
