Chapter 10: Unfulfilled promise

"Sir, the CCTV cameras were turned off during 9:10 to 9:35, and that was the exact time that ma’am drowned," the security explained to Jark.

"Hmmm, you can go wait outside for me," Jark ordered the security in charge of monitoring the CCTV footage out. The moment the security stepped out, Jark started to input codes into the system. After some time of decoding, all the deleted files were restored. He quickly watched the pool footage. At first, he thought it was a mistake, then he replayed it again to make sure what he was seeing was real. After watching again, he deleted the footage again, this time in a way that it couldn’t be restored, and walked out of the room.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

Rhea was on a call with someone when she heard a knock on the door.

"Hold on, I will call you later, someone is at the door." The call was disconnected as she opened the door.

"Jark, what are you doing here?" she exclaimed in surprise, but Jark didn’t reply to her. Instead, he walked inside the room. She closed the door and went and hugged Jark from behind.

"I’m so happy you came to see me. You have been avoiding me ever since you came back with her." She hugged him more tightly.

"Is that why you pushed her?" his aura changed immediately as he asked the question, making Rhea quickly distance herself from him, feigning innocence.

"What do you mean? Pushed who, Jark?"

This time around, Jark turned and stared at her, his eyes cold and devoid of emotion, showing only anger and disgust.

"You know how much I hate lies, Rhea."

"I don’t know what you are saying, Jark." She tried all her best to stop sweating.

But Jark walked closer to her. "I’m only letting you go just for the sake of our friendship, but the next time you try to play mind games with me or try to hurt her again, I won’t be nice towards you anymore." He was about to walk out when he stopped and added, "And this should be a secret between us. No one must find out about this." He walked out of her room in anger after his last statement.

Unknown POV

Ring! Ring! Ring!

"Speak."

"I have found them, they are at Washington DC, at the royal mansion," the caller over the phone spoke.

"You were right when you said I should trust you."

"No need to praise me, I’m not doing this for you, I have my own agenda. Hope you have the pictures with you." The call got disconnected.

"Jark, Jark... Jark, why don’t we play a little game? It has been long," the unknown lady spoke with an evil grin on her beautiful face, looking down at the photo of Kathe and Jark, which was taken when Jark had carried Kathe in a bridal style out from the pool.

The door opened slightly, Jark not wanting to disturb the person inside.

"You can come in, I’m not asleep," Kathe spoke softly.

Jark walked in. "How are you feeling now?" he asked her with concern.

"I’m fine, but were you planning on sneaking into your own room?" Kathe decided to tease him.

"Why will I... it’s my room after all. I just didn’t want to wake up, I didn’t know you are still awake " jark replied her as he began touching things in the room

"why will I sleep, I was clearly waiting for you to bring the culprit who pushed me into the pool" her words paused jark on what he was doing "did you find the culprit " dhe asked again, after she noticed thar he went silent

"the footage was blank, I the CCTV camera was offerd at the time you were pushed into the pool" his statement would have been able to convince anyone but not Kathe

Kathe chuckled at first " Do you want me to believe that "

"what do you mean " he turned and asked her, quilt was already eating him up, but with Kathe doubt he felt bad

"that the person who could find everything about me within an hour, I can clearly remember my life wasn’t on CCTV cameras neither was it videoed, but you clearly gathered information about me but you can’t even gather information about a murder that was about to take place in your house, please make me believe that everything you are saying is true " hee words were like stone being thrown at jark, he grip hands tightly

"I’m sorry " he apologized, to him it wasn’t just an apology it was because he held the truth from her

"you promised to keep me safe, but you’ve broken every promise " Kathe didn’t know why she felt hurt

"I’m sorry " he apologized again, for the first time, jark was going against his principles "go to sleep, the doctor said you should rest more "

"how do you expect me to sleep peacefully, when I know that someone who is ready to murder me is moving around freely, and you expect me to sleep" Kathe couldn’t keep her emotions in check

"you don’t have to worry cause no harm will come to you again I promise, but for now sleep, the doctor asked you to rest, you don’t want to worry the old lady right " jark quickly used the old lady to calm her down

Kathe just nodded at him and went to lay down, jark waited for some time to make sure that Kathe was asleep, before he walked close to her pushing the duvet to cover her properly and whispered "I’m very sorry " And walked out of the room

Kathe made sure that jark was out if the room before she pushed the duvet out from her body in anger, as she asked her self what she was expecting ’was she expecting jark to punish his childhood friend because of her after all, it is a marriage made out of contract what more is she to expect from him ’ she reminded her self the main reason the were together, and that because of their own different agenda she shouldn’t expect too much from him.
