Chapter 42: Don’t go too far
Well, one person did. Li Jun’s cellphone buzzed. He took it out of his pocket, thinking it was his grandpa texting him. It turned out to be Yu Wen.
YW: Don’t go too far.
Li Jun glared at Yu Wen, and Yu Wen met his gaze with no qualms. Li Jun suddenly lost his appetite. He removed the napkin from his lap, and Tanya whispered, "Where are you going?"
He whispered back a response saying, "No need to follow. I am going to the bathroom."
She had one job, and that was to protect his highness, so she said, "Ten minutes, if you aren’t back, I will come find you."
Li Jun nodded, and he got up. As soon as he turned the corner, Yu Wen got up as well, only to be met by that woman’s fierce gaze. He had long seen through them. He could tell at a glance that they were Blue Sapphire mercenaries, and that gaze was a threat.
He followed after Li Jun, but Li Yu also followed after him. As soon as he stepped outside, he turned around to look at her and said, "Why are you following me?"
Li Yu had been preparing herself to be scolded by Yu Wen, but now that he had, she found that all that mental preparation was for nothing. She felt her entire world crumble around her. Her eyes instantly turned watery, and she bit her lip trying to hold back the tears. She said, "Wen-ge I."
Yu Wen sighed and said, "If you have nothing to say to me, then I will take my leave."
She instantly panicked. Yu Wen had always been tolerant of her. Even if he wasn’t interested in what she was talking about, he would patiently listen to her and never complain. But now, it was as though he didn’t want anything to do with her. It had to be that bitch’s fault.
Seeing that she wasn’t responding, Yu Wen turned to leave. She grabbed his arm and, without considering her feelings, he shook her hand off. Li Yu clenched her fist and said, "Please, just listen to me for a second. It wasn’t me... it was-" She didn’t dare continue speaking.
Yu Wen, having run out of patience, said, "Speak," his voice low, but it was very intimidating. She trembled slightly, but she didn’t leave.
She knew this was her only chance, so she hurriedly explained, "It was all my mother’s idea. I like you, no, I love you, and she knew that. She felt so sorry for me and wanted to help me. I am so sorry. If I had known that’s what she was planning to do, I would have stopped her." She didn’t dare tell him the whole truth. If she did, he would walk away, and she would never see him again. She knew that.
Yu Wen knew that this scheme came from Xiu Ying, but he didn’t believe that Li Yu knew nothing of this plan. The only reason he was giving her any grace was because of that favor in the past otherwise, he would have returned to her tenfold of what happened to him that night. If it weren’t that it happened in front of Li Jun, who the hell knows what sort of reputation he would have?
"Ah-Yu, I don’t like it when people lie to me," he said, looking down at her. Li Yu had always looked forward to Yu Wen calling her so intimately like that, but when he finally did, she felt her blood turn cold. "I know you knew about it, and the only reason I am letting this matter go is because of what happened in the past. If you have nothing else to say, then I will take my leave."
He turned and took three steps, only for Li Yu to break down crying. Her voice brittle, she asked, "Is there someone else? Is she worthy of you?... If she is better than me, then I will let the matter go, but if she isn’t, then-"
Yu Wen didn’t look back as he cut her off, saying, "She is ten times better than you." After saying such a heartless thing, he left. Li Yu watched his retreating back, her ears ringing and her eyes blurred with tears. She leaned against the wall, about to break down and mourn what they had in the past, when she heard voices coming in her direction.
She quickly wiped her tears and collected herself. No matter what she was going through, she couldn’t make a joke of herself. Since that bitch was better than her, then she would just have to kill her. But to do that, she needed a name.
While Yu Wen was dealing with Li Yu, Li Jun was being ambushed by his uncle. He was coming from the bathroom when his uncle, Li Zimo, blocked his path. Li Jun, however, wasn’t intimidated by his fierce expression. He said, "Uncle Mo, we shouldn’t be doing this here." he leaned a little closer and whispered, "The walls here have a lot of ears."
Li Zimo pushed him away, and Li Jun chuckled, the smile not quite reaching his eyes. Through gritted teeth, Li Zimo said, "You sack of shit, that throne was never yours to begin with, and you just gave it away to that bitch. You are a disgrace to our ancestors."
Li Jun’s smile froze, and he instantly turned serious as he said, "Our ancestors will be just fine, uncle. You should be more worried about yourself because that bitch will do anything to keep that seat. She will chew you all up one at a time and spit you out like trash. You think my father was evil? Wait and see what a sane lunatic will do to you."
Li Zimo was even more furious. He grabbed his throat and slammed him into the pillar. His grip tight, he whispered into his ear, "You fucking coward. You don’t deserve to have the surname Li. When I am done with that bitch I am coming for you."
He thought Li Jun would be terrified, but he forgot whose son he was. Li Jun smiled slyly and said, "Get in line, uncle. There is a long line of people eager to see me dead." He pushed Li Zimo away and pulled his hair back with a psychotic air about him.
Li Zimo clenched his jaw before threatening, "Just you wait." He walked away with a huff.
Li Jun felt so irritable thinking of that disgusting hand on his throat. He would have chopped those hands off if it weren’t for the fact that his uncle was a key player in this game. He took out a cigarette and lowered his head to light it when it was taken from him, the action all too familiar.
Li Jun, "..."
