Chapter 28: It’s time for the king to fall
Li Yu, trembling in fright, got on her knees, her face covered in tears and snot. She stammered out an answer, saying, "He sa-said that someone named Lorino had died and wuwuwu... he said he had to go." She crawled over, prostrating herself and continued saying, "Mo-mother, I tried to stop him but he said he had to go."
Xiu Ying gritted her teeth. She had ordered Lorino to be silenced but who would have thought it would disrupt her plans. Li Yu, looking pathetic, pinched her dress, crying and nuzzling against her like she was a child. Xiu Ying looked at her with disgust.
"Then why didn’t you tell me that things had gone wrong? Do you not know how to find me when you are in trouble?" She said while pushing her away.
Li Yu wiped her tears while sniffling. "I was so scared that you would be upset with me. You gave me this opportunity, and I failed you. I was just scared," she replied, trying not to break into tears again.
Xiu Ying tsked unable to even look at her. It was all her fault. She had wanted Li Yu to have a much better life than her but it turns out she had shielded her so well that she was so timid and stupid.
So stupid in fact, that she couldn’t even come to her and tell her when something went wrong. Did Li Yu think she wouldn’t eventually find out what happened? She was only delaying the inevitable by not telling her at the time.
Just then, her attendant, Marcia, walked in and knelt before her. "Your Majesty, I did as you asked."
Xiu Ying asked, "Who did he meet with?" What they needed to figure out was which bitch had stumbled upon the drugged general and eliminate them. Otherwise, Yu Wen might take responsibility, cutting off their chances to form a marriage alliance.
Marcia trembled slightly. The news she was about to deliver was surely going to make her majesty mad. She lowered her head, her body stiff and said, "He drove to Club Nova and only returned this morning."
Hearing that name, something within her snapped. Of course, it was him. It was always him disrupting her plans. What was so special about him? Why did he have to be the protagonist of this world and she an insignificant ant in his story? This time, she had succeeded in making them hate each other, loathe each other even and yet they still managed to hook up at her expense.
"FUCK!!!" she roared as she picked up the porcelain vase and smashed it against the wall. Like a hurricane, she smashed everything on her path. She kicked the furniture, swept things off the table with a crazed look in her eyes.
Li Yu froze stiff from fright. She had never seen her mother act like this. Even when she had peeked through the window and witnessed her father having an episode, he wasn’t as terrifying as her mother.
She couldn’t understand why she was upset when she heard that Yu Wen had gone to Club Nova. At least the women there were low lives with no future or backer to speak of. Silencing whichever woman it was that took advantage of her man would be easy. So, why was she throwing a fit?
She crawled to the corner, not daring to breathe loudly. She could hide and dodge, but Marcia couldn’t. She had to stay exactly where she was. She was bleeding after her face was cut by a porcelain shard and she had a bruise on her arm from where a golden figurine had hit her. The entire time she was begging Xiu Ying to calm down.
It was only after her mother calmed somewhat that Li Yu dared to move her cramped legs. Xiu Ying, her chest rising and falling, yelled, "Everyone get out!" Li Yu scrambled to her feet. She tripped a couple of times, her legs having given out. It was Marcia who helped her up. As soon as they shut the door behind them, Xiu Ying said, "You lied to me," her voice breathy and hoarse.
The system said in a heartless tone, "Keep blaming me all you want but where would you be without my help? You would be in some junk star being eaten by stray dogs." That image flashed in Xiu Ying’s mind and her eyes instantly turned bloodshot.
That was exactly where she was when the system first appeared to her. She was lying in a heap of trash, dying. Scavenger birds were already circling around her, just waiting for her to die. The system mentioning this meant it was a threat. She gritted her teeth, swallowing her anger.
"What do I do now?" she asked, her voice strained. She wished she could get her grip on the system and strangle it to death. It claimed to be powerful, but it couldn’t even surveil anyone or predict the future accurately.
It could only provide her with strategies, and there was no guarantee that the plans would work. In the past, its strategies would work flawlessly, but the higher she went, the more her schemes failed.
The system didn’t respond for a moment, as if it was thinking. After some time, it said, "Go big or go home. It’s time for the king to fall." Xiu Ying smirked, her beautiful face now resembling that of a vengeful ghost. She had been waiting for the system to finally give her the go-ahead, so of course, she was energized, almost breathless with excitement.
"Alright then," she said, looking like a devil straight out of the pits of hell.

The phone on the bedside table lit up after the soft chime, but the lump under the covers didn’t move. It was daytime but the windows and curtains were closed. Clothes were strewn everywhere like he had tossed them away casually before getting into bed. This ’he’ was indeed Li Jun.
Ever since that night, he had been lazing in bed. In truth, he was hiding in shame. He regretted it. He regretted it so much that he didn’t want to see anyone. His chastity was gone just like that and he lost it to his enemy. In the moment, he was heated and actually allowed that asshole to fuck him. After the fact, he was so ashamed that he didn’t even dare look Yan Jia in the eye.
