Chapter 50: Coffee Jelly
"Room..." Virgo trailed off as he stopped in front of the penthouse entrance. "It’s this one."
Holding a paper bag with a full set of clothes for Lynsandra, he gripped the keycard in his other hand. But before he could tap it, the door flew open from the inside.
He paused, lifting his gaze and meeting Elias’s irritated eyes.
"Tch." Elias hissed as he walked out, making Virgo step aside.
As Elias passed him, Virgo caught Lynsandra’s scent clinging to the man’s body. Even Elias’s shampoo and soap couldn’t mask it.
"Ah!" Elias paused, snapping Virgo out of his thoughts. He looked back and cocked his head. "By the way, is she the type to remember things when she’s drunk?"
Virgo recomposed himself, forcing his expression neutral. "It depends on the level of her drunkenness."
"The level like last night is what I’m talking about."
"I don’t think so," Virgo said with a subtle smile. "If Alpha Elias wants something he doesn’t want the Luna to remember, you don’t need to worry. She probably doesn’t remember anything from last night."
Elias arched a brow, sensing the subtle insinuation in Virgo’s words. However, he simply snorted and shook his head.
"Good," he intoned. "Then that means we have two firsts — last night and this morning."
With that, he turned his back on Virgo and strutted away.
The smile on Virgo’s face faded slightly as he watched Elias’s retreating figure. Letting out a shallow breath, he entered the penthouse. Looking around the massive suite, he tried to sense where she was.
Knowing Lynsandra for as long as he could remember, sensing her presence was second nature. Once he pinpointed it, Virgo knocked on the bedroom door.
"Come in," came her voice from inside.
As soon as he opened the door, the strong blend of Lynsandra’s and Elias’s scents hit his nostrils. The two of them probably didn’t notice, both being alphas, but for a beta like Virgo, it was an assault.
His eyes quickly found Lynsandra leaning against the headboard, a thick blanket covering her bare chest, her face turned toward the window.
Virgo smiled as he stepped in. "Luna."
"..." Lynsandra’s ears twitched as she kept her composure and cleared her throat. "Just leave the clothes over there, Virgo."
He didn’t answer, forcing her to turn to him reluctantly. The moment she saw the forced smile on his face, she bit her bottom lip and gulped.
Here we go, she thought.
"How many times do I have to tell you..." He trailed off, and what followed was nonstop nagging and a full sermon.
Yes. Virgo had this side of him — the one she had tried to avoid last night. Sadly, things had turned out differently, and here she was, mentally blocking her ears.
"I’m sorry, Virgo," she said, resting the side of her head on her palm. "I really mean it."
Virgo huffed, tugging the hem of his suit as he straightened.
"Luna, all I’m saying is, if you want to go out with Minnie, at least tell me where you’re going," he said, placing the paper bag at the edge of the bed. "That way, if something happens, I don’t have to waste time scouring the city to find you."
She narrowed her eyes. "If I tell you next time, will you leave us alone?"
The moment the words slipped out, the smile on his face returned. As he opened his mouth again, Lynsandra quickly covered her ears, earning herself another earful.
"There won’t be a next time for now," he huffed. "Do you even know what happened last night?"
She frowned. "How messy was it? Did it reach the Alpha King?"
Virgo opened his mouth, then closed it again. He thought briefly about last night’s aftermath, and his reaction piqued her curiosity.
"What is it?" she asked. "Was it really that bad?"
Lynsandra furrowed her brows, imagining a hundred things she might have done. Every time she drank, it wasn’t always like this. Only when she had too much did she become out of control, as if the part of her she constantly suppressed came out.
"Actually, it was bad," Virgo said. "I saw recordings from one of the witnesses. Apparently, you confronted members of a Trine — specifically, from the Third Scar."
"The Trine?" she hummed. Of course, she heard of them. Like pests that needed regular extermination, but like pests, they never went extinct.
He nodded. "From what I heard, they were harassing others and then turned their attention to you. You were forced to drink an entire bottle of vodka."
As Virgo recounted the events, he couldn’t help feeling his blood boil. Meanwhile, Lynsandra vaguely remembered snippets of the night as he spoke.
"Hah." She scoffed. "Now that you mention it, I think I do remember that."
"So?" she added. "Did you tear down their hive?"
"Yes." Virgo nodded. "Fortunately, Elias Hale warned the people in the club last night and made handling the aftermath easier. We ensured nothing would leak publicly. However, the four we seized were from a smaller subgroup of the Trine. Probably new members. Still, hot-blooded, arrogant, and ignorant."
"Four? From my fragmented memory, there were five."
"Yes, but the last one escaped before we arrived," Virgo said. "I’ve sent men to find him. After all, we found something interesting in the recovered recordings."
"And what is it?"
Virgo let out a shallow breath. "I’m not sure yet, but the one missing was their group leader. He was also the one who put his hands on you and didn’t die despite taking several blows from you."
For a moment, Lynsandra was quiet, recalling that detail.
"He showed signs of shifting, but somehow he didn’t recognize me," she said. "Keep looking into it and find him. I have a bad feeling about that."
"Yes, Luna." Virgo lowered his head. "Anyway, I’ll be waiting outside. You still have a lunch appointment with the Alpha King."
The moment he said that, Lynsandra froze. "What did you say?"
"Luna, the Alpha King has set this meeting months ago," Virgo deadpanned. "We still have time."
As Virgo turned, Lynsandra winced. But just as he opened the door, a hotel staff member was about to knock.
"Ah!" the staff member jolted in surprise.
"Why are you here?" Virgo frowned, noticing the trolley beside her.
"Mr. Hale said to send this to the miss," she said with a smile.
Lynsandra stretched her neck to look. As soon as Virgo saw what it was, his brows knitted.
"Coffee jelly?" he muttered.
Hearing that, the corners of her lips curled upward as she shook her head and murmured,
"Did I tell him I was craving this?"
