Chapter 1737: Chapter 1737: The Boxes Merge into One
Little Taotie yawned, utterly bored.
"I found it!" A voice excitedly rang out.
Little Taotie snapped awake and turned to look.
Saw a colleague holding a box.
The box looked very familiar, almost identical to the one buried under the black boulder.
The only difference was a small pattern on the box, resembling a kind of symbol.
It was as if a switch for digging had been flipped; after the first person unearthed a box, others began to dig up boxes one after another.
The relatively idle Little Taotie and Hua Jinyan ended up being the ones to manage and count the boxes.
When Hua Jinyan counted the 100th box, something strange happened. The 100 boxes on the ground started to flow like water and eventually turned into a single box.
The scene was quite eerie, with all 100 boxes flowing simultaneously like liquid and finally merging into one.
An elder attempted to reach out for the box, but his hand seemed to touch liquid and couldn’t grasp it, passing through the box as if going through a stream of water under a faucet.
"You all give it a try."
Hearing this, everyone stepped forward to attempt it.
One by one, they tried, but the result was the same: their hands passed through the liquid.
Finally, it was the turn of the two children.
Little Taotie reached out first and grasped it firmly in one go.
She picked up the box, frowned, and said, "You guys must be acting!"
The crowd was speechless: "..." Little girl is not one to be messed with, and she snapped right back!
"Let Hua Jinyan try," the elder said.
Little Taotie reached out and handed the box over.
Hua Jinyan’s hand caught it from below, holding it steadily.
Everyone was in disbelief.
"How did they manage to grab it?"
"We clearly went right through it."
"It was like a liquid; how did they manage to hold it?"
"It’s just like how they couldn’t dig; it’s suspiciously targeted."
"Is it something like an age-restricted domain?"
"That’s possible. Some domains have age restrictions, like only those over ten can dig, and only those under ten can grab the item."
"Wait, so by your explanation, we can dig but just can’t take the item?"
"I hadn’t thought of it that way until you mentioned it, it’s kind of like that."
"But if we go by that explanation, how do you explain the items that only children can pick up? Isn’t that contradictory? The diggers dig out the items but can’t pick them up at all."
"Maybe they never intended for anyone to get the box."
"Not many people bring children to such places, so without kids, nobody can ever pick up the items."
"Then how do you explain the box under the black stone, which didn’t seem to have these strange situations?"
"Look at the position on the box!"
Everyone followed his direction and saw that the 100 symbols had reduced to one, very complex, seemingly a congregation of a hundred sketches, finally forming this ancient and intricate totem-like existence.
"How about scraping off the symbol with a knife, could we hold it then?" someone suggested.
Someone handed a folding knife to Little Taotie; only she and Hua Jinyan could touch the box.
Little Taotie took the folding knife and was about to scrape it when Hua Jinyan suggested he do it. Little Taotie didn’t mind who did it, so she stepped aside.
Hua Jinyan scraped away with the knife for quite some time, but the pattern didn’t budge an inch.
Hua Jinyan was exhausted.
He put down the knife, his face stern: "It’s useless."
Everyone watched, knowing it was useless; that method clearly wouldn’t work.
