Chapter 211: A Wingman

"Ow!"

Darius let out as the water spirit mage force-fed him some type of healing liquid since he had basically damaged his throat in that last attack.

He was now back in the preparation room, and tending to him was one of the healers of the festival.

And she just turned out to be the third year, Aqua.

"What sort of idiot goes all out in their first match?" She said in annoyance.

Though now that she thought about it, this wasn’t the first time he had done something like this.

Even back in the dungeon, he was the first to disregard any type of plan they made and rush into a horde, only to return, needing healing.

"I couldn’t help it," Darius answered, "it would’ve lost otherwise. "

And he was right.

"Besides, didn’t you see that cool powerup?"

"Yeah, the same power up that caused you to almost permanently lose your voice," Aqua retorted, feeling as if she were dealing with some type of child who had just discovered a new toy.

Meanwhile, Orion stood to the side, looking towards the two before whispering to Conan beside him, "Who is she?"

Conan was a bit confused as to why he was whispering, but he played along anyway, "she’s a third year at the academy. "

"Hmm?" Orion looked a bit more confused, "Then how did my brother meet her?"

"About that," Conan started, looking towards Aqua and Darius, "according to what I heard, it seems they were stuck in the same dungeon together. "

"I see," Orion muttered, a grin appearing on his face.

Conan was quite confused by the questions and his expression at the end, but he suddenly realized something.

’Is Orion interested in Aqua?’

Based on the questions, that was the only conclusion he could come up with. Perhaps this was the legendary love at first sight that he had heard of in stories.

He looked at Orion again and then at Aqua before letting out a sigh.

’This is going to go badly,’ he thought to himself.

And he was right.

Orion suddenly approached the two with quite the confidence... he seemed to have gotten everything figured out and was convinced that this was going to go perfectly.

"You must be Aqua," he said pleasantly.

Aqua looked up from forcing healing liquid into Darius’s throat.

"Yes," she said with a nod.

"I’m Orion," he said, "Darius’s brother."

"I see the resemblance," she said, which wasn’t a compliment in the least bit.....after all, he was being indirectly called an idiot too.

Or at least that’s how Orion understood it anyway, but he smiled anyway.

"My brother talks about you," he suddenly said, causing Darius to choke on the healing liquid.

"What?" He let out in confusion, wondering when he had mentioned the third year.

Hell, when had he even spoken about the dungeon?

Orion, on the other hand, just subtly winked at him before adding, "he mentioned you were the one who kept healing him in the dungeon."

Darius stared at his brother, then at Aqua, then back at his brother, looking even more confused.

The wink had communicated absolutely nothing useful to him.

"Did he?" Aqua said, glancing at Darius with a bit of surprise.

So the idiot had appreciated her healings? Still, why was his older brother saying it in his stead?

"Quite a lot actually," Orion continued with a small smile, "and I’d like to thank you for taking care of my idiot of a brother."

Again, Darius was quite confused... when the hell had he said he was taken care of by Aqua?

He opened his mouth to say exactly that.

Orion looked at him with an expression that very clearly said ’don’t.’

So Darius closed his mouth as he wondered,

’What is happening?’ he thought.

Aqua, meanwhile, looked at Orion with the expression of someone who appreciated the sentiment but was also slightly suspicious of the delivery.

"It wasn’t a big deal," she said, "he needed healing, and I was there."

"Still," Orion said pleasantly, "he’s not easy to keep alive."

"No," Aqua agreed, glancing at Darius. "He’s really not."

"Hey," Darius said.

The two ignored him.

"But even with all that," Orion continued, "my little brother definitely has his good qualities. "

"Is that so?" Aqua muttered.

"They might be hard to see, with all his idiocy leaking out, but I assure you they’re there," he responded, "for example, he is quite loyal to those he considers friends."

The groups around them, save for Darius and Aqua, finally understood what he was doing.

He was currently playing wingman for his younger brother.

Quite terribly, but wingman nonetheless.

Cedric, who had been watching from the side with his arms crossed, leaned toward Renelle and murmured, "Is he doing what I think he’s doing?"

"I think," Renelle muttered, unsure.

She had never been a witness to the techniques of a wingman before, but even she knew that Orion was doing horribly.

’Stop,’ Conan couldn’t help but desperately think as he blushed from second-hand embarrassment.

Unfortunately, Orion was no mind reader, and even if he was, he had no intention of stopping.

"He’s also quite dependable," Orion continued pleasantly, "when it matters."

Aqua was still confused, so she asked, "You’re telling me this because?"

"What I’m saying," Orion tried again with determination, "is that my brother is worth getting to know?"

"Also, have you heard that we’ve got great beaches here?" He continued, "perhaps my little brother can give you a–"

His words were interrupted by the sudden announcement made by the herald.

"FOR THE NEXT MATCH OF THE TOURNAMENT!"

"Finally," Conan let out, rather than being excited for the announcement itself, he was just glad that something had interrupted.

"REPRESENTING THE NORTH, LORD CEDRIC ARDENT."

He paused for a short while before adding,

"AND HIS OPPONENT, REPRESENTING THE WEST, LORD SETH SYLVARIS. "

Since this wasn’t a knockout-type tournament, everyone was going to fight everyone, and this was just the second round.

Which meant, eventually,

Adrian might be put against the prince.
