Chapter 462: Chapter 336: The Ancient City Vanishes
This thing should not be handed over; selling it to anyone might lead to disaster. But keeping it with me is useless—we have natural gas and electric cookers for steaming buns and grilling cold noodles. I stuffed the crystal into Qinghan’s hand.
"They took the light sphere, but there was still this inside it, which I hid in advance."
"You went inside the light sphere?"
"Yeah, Wang Le was there too. He showed this to me and even wanted me to touch it. It’s a pity I couldn’t be contaminated by core energy. If Bi Shi came a minute later, I would’ve ignited the light sphere."
Qinghan didn’t yet know what Ou Chen had said to me, so I took this opportunity to tell Qinghan about Ou Chen. He first had Gu make a move, then came to me.
After hearing this, Qinghan only asked: If the light sphere exploded and its destructive power was stronger than that of Eyes of Golden Flame’s self-destruction, what would I do?
I had considered before if I might die because of this, but faced with a choice of either A or B, doing it was the only solution. Hesitation and delay would only waste time. So, I quickly made the decision to eliminate the immediate trouble first.
Since the archaeological excavation, I had changed a lot. Freed from the ’responsibility’ and ’big picture’ I once felt burdened by, my way of thinking about problems became simpler and my actions more free.
Because of my decisions, most of the time it only concerned my own life and death, which made it much easier to choose.
"Before making a decision next time, think about the people in this world who care about you—don’t make them sad."
Qinghan said this while patting my shoulder, then turned around and went back to the house to sleep.
I sat outside for hours wondering—was he talking about himself?
When Huang Zaijiang and the others woke up, there was less than two hours left until the 12-hour deadline that Ou Chen had mentioned.
I told them the Ancient City was soon to vanish and that everyone needed to evacuate quickly; otherwise, they might fall into the ground along with the sand.
After sleeping, the injured were severely sore all over. When I went to see Ou Chen, I unintentionally found a tricycle—not the riding kind, but the pushing kind.
The vehicle had a full metal structure, which wasn’t too rusted. Huang Zaijiang and Mr. Tang had the most trouble moving, so the two of them got into the tricycle’s compartment while I pushed them from behind.
The cart moved swiftly, and Mr. Tang clutched the sideboards tightly, his hair swept to one side whipping up in the wind like a little flag fluttering.
"Slow down, sister, please slow down!" Huang Zaijiang shouted with a grimace.
"There’s no time; do you want to be buried alive? Then get off now."
"No, no, who said the Ancient City would collapse? Is this reliable?"
"It’s not reliable. Do you want to verify it yourself?"
"No, no, I don’t want to. Please continue at the breakneck pace."
"Gu and Little Red are still in the power room; we need to bring them back." I told Qinghan, who immediately nodded, taking over my job and pushing the cart at my speed toward the city outskirts.
Only I knew where the power room was within the team. I retraced my steps, circling twice before finding the right place. Being directionally challenged, my task difficulty directly doubled.
Little Red’s eyes gleamed like copper bells, shooting out lightning-like shrewdness, squatting at the power room entrance, alert to the surroundings.
As soon as I approached, it noticed, craning its neck to look over and seeing it was me, it stood up immediately.
Feathers were stuck all over it, and its skin was pierced with half-inch long stingers, clearly having faced a fierce attack by some flying creatures.
"What happened here? What’s this?" I looked at the stingers on it. Birds shouldn’t have stingers, and if they were plant thorns, they were all piercing precisely, as if chosen to target specific points. If it was a plant, then the plant must have had eyes.
"Insect tail stinger," Little Red moved aside from the doorway, "he is very safe."
It takes two people to open and close the power room door. I left the door open when I went out. Gu was injured and couldn’t walk, so Little Red couldn’t close the door alone. When danger came, it stood alone to block the attack, solely to ensure Gu’s safety.
"These aren’t the kind of insects that lay eggs in people, are they?" I recalled seeing the werewolf’s corpse, with similar evenly arranged holes.
Of course, the holes were small when the stingers entered, but when the larvae grew and crawled out, the holes naturally enlarged.
"Hmm." Little Red responded softly, patting its arm. Tiny popping sounds came from beneath its skin, as if something was being popped.
The insect eggs need a specific environment to grow, and in the body of a robot without flesh and blood, it wouldn’t be easy for them to grow smoothly. They’d remain just as they were when they entered.
